In a general sense, Captain Obvious is supposed to be a character trope. That doesn't always pan out that way, but it is also about the exchange of "This is happening" "We can tell." Narrating the Obvious is more about someone doing a running commentary, stating out loud things that we are seeing or just saw. The overall topic is so similar that most of the examples overlap.
I get two incompatible takes out of ^.
- Captain Obvious is a character trope while Narrating the Obvious is a narrative trope
- Captain Obvious implies lampshading as characters react to the obvious observation while Narrating the Obvious is when it's done in a serious tone to help tell a story
Why are those incompatible?
Check out my fanfiction!^ What if a character is notorious for narrating the obvious in order make it easy to understand the plot while nobody comments on it?
Where does it say someone has to comment on it?
Check out my fanfiction! It's may happen according to second paragraph on Captain Obvious. Let's ignore this part and focus on "a character is notorious for narrating the obvious in order make it easy to understand the plot". Would this mean both tropes apply?
They can overlap. A character doesn't have to be incredibly obvious about things relating to narration, and narration doesn't have to be a character.

Is Narrating the Obvious reserved for narrators or could it be any character saying something that's blatantly obvious. If the latter case, would Narrating the Obvious constitute a milder version of Captain Obvious because the character doesn't do it constantly?
