Oh yeah, I saw (one of) the movies for that series and it was pretty interesting.
It's been fun.Just watched episode 2. This is very similar to the Cafe Concrucio spinoff I've dreamt of. Very interesting to watch a food-themed anime that doesn't go into minutiae of the recipes; the grub is used more as a vehicle for characterization and worldbuilding. Like how both the treasure hunter and the knight were surprised that they get free refills on water.

Hah, I actually read up to volume 3 of the light novel.
I really rather liked the light novels, making it one of the only four light novel series I actually like (others being Full Metal Panic, Hataraku Maou Sama, and Kumo Desu Ga Nani Ka).
Here's hoping that the adaptation does the novels justice. See, I have this policy that if a light novel has the word "isekai/another world" in the title, I automatically skip the shit out of it. This is the only light novel that I made an exception to that policy.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. There's a bookstore I go to in Kamata Station that has a whole bookshelf full of Isekai novels and books, and they all mostly look like crap - we're squarely into the period where the rate of people jumping on the bandwagon is making the yoke beat the dead horses. Kumo Desu Ga is fantastic, but it's right on the cusp between the 'we're taking this reincarnation trend seriously' period and 'time to make people reincarnate into whatever silly crap will sell light novels' period, time-wise.
...do we have a thread for Kumo Desu Ga yet? I'd love to talk more about it (obviously).
It's been fun.I love how one of my friends described this whole isekai trend:
"It's clear how nowadays another worlds' population is mostly made of Japanese."
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Which is a plot point of Kono Suba.
Should the show (which is on the Lightnovel page) be moved to the dropdown lists on the left after it's last episode, or can it be done now?
I quite like this series, it's relaxing, and it's fun to see the reactions of all those fantasy characters to Earth food. My favorite character is the Dragon Queen, she's awesome.
Ah, I was wondering why Crunchyroll actually added a new series to their manga list.
I've read the first chapter of the manga adaptation. Seems to be a rather typical food porn series, apart from the obvious twist on the genre. That's not really my thing, so am I safe skipping on this?
The anime really isnt a food porn series, its more like telling tales about people in a fantasy world that find the door to the restaurant and it ends up improving their lives in some way usually via modern food that does not exist in their world.

Or food that is hard to get. Like the Knight from the second episode who grew up in a coastal city but now commanded an inland keep and couldn't get prawns any more.
I've mentioned it in a post above, but the stark difference between this show and other food porn series (aside from the obvious) is that the show hardly dwells on the recipes, and instead uses the food to give us insight into the other world and its inhabitants. A good example is a customer in the second episode who gets shocked that she can get free refills on water, and in a similar vein another customer is shocked the water has ice.
I was wondering when we were going to get a merchant type of character, and he does not disappoint. Really cool to see a fantasy-world guy actively stealing ideas from modern civilization. Adelheid's half of the story was a bit more boring, but we do get to see a glimpse of the owner's grandfather and predecessor.
Excited for next episode, though, because we're getting an elf and lizardman!
I wish they would focus more on the waitress and her situation more, she interests me the most by far.
For those of you who are interested, there is also a manga adaptation of the light novels, although there aren't too many chapters just yet.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Reading the manga would kinda ruin the single chapter new character stories I think, although I hope they stop soon and start evolving said characters.
The manga is an adaptation of the light novels - and a fairly good one, I'd say - so manga IS part of the story.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. Why just not read novel, it is translated pretty consistently ? Is manga that much ahead translation wise?

Episode:
The first part was done in a style of a documentary program. I like how the lizardmen developed almost a cargo cult of the door.
Also, vegan elves and tofu steak. Man, being an Elf must be hard. No meat.
Does one really need a bow to gather mushrooms? Then again it's a fantasy world so the mushrooms might actually put up a fight.
It seems the visit in the restaurant have given her an inspiration to improve her cooking. I wouldn't mind a Shokugeki no Fardania spin-off.
No cheese would be the killer for me. I could never go full vegan for that very reason. I'd miss dairy too much.
Though given their forest dwellers, that would be at least partly practical. Not a lot of open space to pasture cows or sheep.
It's likely for self-defence, nothing to do with the mushroom-gathering itself.
Give the God Eater game thread some love!Yeah, cheese is just too good not to eat. Poor elves.
Yeah, self-defense.... from the mushrooms!
Her father makes it seem like it is really dangerous to go out and the attitude in the shop makes it seem like humans and elves probably do not like each other much.
Anyway the Lizard Man segment was just plain stupid but I liked how people are finally showing up again and being reoccurring characters for the elf segment.

You take that back, the Lizardmen segment was as amusing as it was dry. Really cute how they built an altar for the magic door. And they cheer by hitting the ground with their tails!
So elves in this universe are full vegan, huh. The poor pointy-eared bastards. I kind of want to feed them Jouichiro's special ramen.
Oooh, a lion-man next ep!
Actually elves are not really vegans, that would means they have choice in that matter. But because they don't right term would be herbivore.
This may be the most relaxing series in play this year, never mind this summer.
Its a show in which almost nothing actually happens, but I cant stop watching because of the repeated delight in people from a medieval fantasy discovering modern restaurant fare.
The whole thing has a bit of a feel of the Live-action 'Midnight Diner' show that's available on Netflix. Interesting people meet and greet and eat in a friendly, neutral-ground restaurant with a kind chef. Its just that we are meeting and greeting adventurers, knights, dragons, faeries and tieflings.
