So, the Senate Intelligence Committee report on CIA torture established in 2012 that torture is unreliable and can produce false positives except when extracting confessions and confirming already known information (although wording is a serious consideration as those undergoing torture will often say what their torturers want to hear in addition to simply picking the wrong person to torture).

There are, of course, many other standard and non-standard approaches to Interrogation. I thought it might be interesting to discuss them, their actual applications, and their ethical and practical ramifications.

One mtehod that I see pop up in fiction a lot nowadays is called Pride and Ego Down: a U.S. Army term that refers to techniques used by captors in interrogating prisoners to encourage cooperation, usually consisting of "attacking the source's sense of personal worth" and in an "attempt to redeem his pride, the source will usually involuntarily provide pertinent information in attempting to vindicate himself."

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
