So, yeah. This is my first time posting in this thread and I already have this question that lingers in my mind.

I have an idea of cyberpunk/biopunk/dystopia story that is about fascist USA.

To clarify how it came to be: the US was attacked by an armed forces created by Russia and China, which disguised as Muslim terrorists. The goal of these "terrorists" is to destabilize the US. The thing is, America quickly came back to power by essentially beocomng a fasict state. Then, after eradicating all the remaining enemies using various technologies it already had, US invades Middle East, almost eradicating it, and sets up a puppet state.

Some people (government officials) eventually do find out that it was Russia and China, but then ignore it, thinking that it would ruin people's blind patriotism. They are plannig to somehow ruin those countries secretly. And thus, government starts various projects to make population into blind patriots.

The problem is that I'm not sure if this is realistic. I fear that I'm stretching things a bit too much. That is why I'm planning to change the setting into a fictional world if there are problems with it. Please give constructive criticism.

I can give more info if needed.

It isn't realistic.

What would those countries get for their massive military expenditures, since a destabilized superpower is going to have massive ripple effects across the rest of the world? And how many Russians/Chinese do you know who could pass for stereotypical 'Muslims'? (China, maybe, but then they'd have the problem of what to do with their own Muslim population in the aftermath of the event.)

Frankly, 'blind patriotism' by itself is massively destabilizing, and has directly led to fascist states in the past. This is easier to pull off in a centralized state, and that's really not something the real-world USA is.

I'd go with a fictional world with a smaller population, in the aftermath of some global calamity. That the calamity was manufactured would reassure no one, and that knowledge would be destabilizing on its own besides.

Thank you for criticism. I think that a cabal of anti-americans would have been better, but since US turning fascist is not really that much of a good idea, I guess I will go for the fictional world (not with the global calamity, though. My setting has to be advanced enough for VR simulation that was designed for brainwashing purposes, bio-chemical weapons and just plain war with cyberpunk equipment)

About Russia and China, I actually planned for them to be POSSIBLE secret benefactors. I... kind of wasn't thinking straight when I wrote the first post.
