Crime is everywhere. Wherever you go, even the most peaceful place in existence, there will always be a criminal element. A force, an individual who goes against all else for their own gain. Someone speaks out against the crime, it shouts louder. Someone fights against the crime, they fight back. Someone gets rid of crime, it always returns. When the rules against crime are formed and changed, they stay as broken as they were when they started. Criminals do not take a backseat, criminals take the wheel in their own hands and force things to work for them.
In every universe, crime is there.
Crime is eternal.

Two people sit opposite each other, a desk between them. A man and a woman.
"We can't keep doing this ourselves," the man spoke.
The woman replied, "We can try."
"Trying won't fix anything. You know that."
A pause.
"Are you sure?"
"No. Not really. Throwing innocent lives at problems we're supposed to handle. But everything's too big for just us, now, there's nothing we can do without them."
Another pause.
"I'll make the preparations."

Threads: Roleplay & Discussion

Hey everybody! Welcome to my yet-to-be-officially-named Mystery Crossover RP! The gist is simple: a multidimensional police force hires a collection of detectives/police/what-have-you from different forms of media - the Player Characters (PCs) to investigate an ever-continuing string of crimes perpetrated by a mysterious cross-dimensional crime syndicate. As I haven't really run a roleplay before now, I'm not entirely sure if anything else needs to be said before getting into the nitty-gritty details. Any questions will be happily answered, of course!

General Rules

  • The standard Forum Rules apply, of course.
  • This roleplay will be heavily narrative- and character-based, and I would like for those who are interested to treat it as such. There will still be a fair amount of action scenes and fighting, it just won't be the focus of everything. Basically, don't join just to pit Sherlock Holmes against Batman in a fist fight to see who wins.(Of course the answer would be Sherlock but that's no why we're here.)
  • Have Fun. Sort of a no-brainer, because why would you join this if it wasn't fun? But compared to how most other Crossovers work on this forum, this particular one may seem a bit more limiting, and I really don't want to stifle people's creativities.

Character Rules

Obviously, the main focus of this roleplay will be crimes and the solving of them. Thus, the only characters allowed in the roleplay will be those with extensive backgrounds in criminal affairs. Here are some guidelines:
  • For a character to be accepted, they must fulfill four criteria.
    • They must be a canon character. Can be from anything at all, so long as it exists.
    • The character in question must be a detective, police officer, private investigator, or some other investigative entity, or have had been one before the point they are taken from.
    • The character has to have been the detective, police officer, P.I., etc for an extended period of time. No one-shot detectives, no "wanted to solve the murder on their own" kinds of stories - only characters with a history as an investigator or officer will be allowed. This also extends to characters who might not have an exact job but still investigate and the like such as the Scooby-Doo gang or Nancy Drew.
    • The character must not be evil, ie their morals must be in line with their universe's justice system. This is wholly different from the character being the antagonist of a story. A Hero Antagonist is very much allowed.
  • A Player Character's powers are determined to be acceptable on a case-by-case basis. I will say ahead of time that barring any extreme cases, an individual character's power will not be a major issue, so those who wish to play detectives that have supernatural powers and the like shouldn't worry too much over it. That said, please try to keep a character's physical strength at Super Weight 2 or less. This means they won't be able to lift more than 2 tons and cannot break walls in a punch or two, essentially.
  • A Duo of characters are allowed if and only if they cannot work the same without one another, either literally so, or if their character suffers as a result of them being separated.

And now, the Application:

  • Name: Both actual and a codename, if they should have one.
  • Universe: What show/game/movie/book/manga/anime/etc they come from, as well when they're from in relation to their plot.
  • Appearance: Since these are already established characters, a picture will do fine.
  • Personality: A brief description of them as a person.
  • Backstory: No need to get too detailed; just a short explanation of their (important) past and from before they are taken for the roleplay.
  • Powers/Skills: Either or, depending on if your character actually has powers or not. Only hard limits is that they cannot lift anything heavier than 2 tons, so if somebody is stronger than that, a nerf would be nice.
  • Equipment: Any cool gadgets, nifty doodads, or neat trinkets? This can also include any signature vehicles...or if your character is a vehicle.
  • Misc.: Anything you feel is important to say that can't be said anywhere else.

With all of that out of the way, I should mention that, as a first-time (actually invested) GM, I'm never quite sure if what I'm doing is good or right or things like that, so honest opinions/constructive criticism is always appreciated if you feel something needs to be said!

This sounded so fun when you brought it up before, so I'm joining as the great clockwork dick!

  • Name: Nick Valentine
  • Universe: Fallout 4, post-Railroad ending
  • Appearance: What do you mean 'what's wrong with his face"?
  • Personality: Nick's last name is appropriate, as he's all heart. He believes in doing the right thing for the right reasons. While he struggles with his own identity, he never lets that get in the way of justice when it needs to be served. Even when the one in need is a monstrous creature, Nick believes in showing compassion whenever possible. That's not to say that he's a pushover. He can be incredibly sarcastic when he wants, particularly in response to someone else's jabs.
  • Backstory: Nick Valentine was a detective in Chicago who was engaged to a lovely woman named Jenny. One day, a notorious crime lord killed Jenny, sending Nick in a tailspin of grief and vengeance. He sought treatment for his PTSD and there his memories were scanned. These are the memories that come flooding back to a lone synth who was- as far as he knows- thrown away. Living was tough for a confused robot with no memories of the war that destroyed the world he thought he knew, but eventually- through hard work and a strong moral compass- Nick managed to establish himself as the go-to detective in Diamond City. It's on a kidnapping case that he's knocked out by the lost girl in question and locked up. He was saved by the Sole Survivor, a parent looking for their kidnapped child. Nick agreed to help them, finally discovering that Shaun was raised by the Institute, the same organization that built Nick. Sole ended up destroying the Institute, and in the aftermath, Nick was given a new job offer.
  • Powers/Skills: Nick isn't much stronger than the average human, he does, however, have experience with guns and can use a wide variety effectively. He is very good at hacking; he just has a way with technology- where could that come from? He also has the memories of a great detective, which he's used to become one himself. Also, since he's a robot, he's unaffected by most normal human needs, such as food or rest.
  • Equipment:
    • Pipe Revolver Pistol: a gun that uses .45 caliber rounds.
    • Pack of Cigarettes: While Nick doesn't actually feel the effects of the cigarettes, he finds the act of smoking calming.

  • Name: Rinko Daimon
  • Universe: Kamen Rider Wizard shortly after the events of the last story relevant episode.
  • Appearance: Here she is.
  • Personality: Along with a strong sense of justice, Rinko has a soft side that can often get in the way of duty with her going so far as to ignore orders if she feels that her orders are interfering with what is right. Not only that but while she may seem serious at first glance once you get to know her more you start to realize that she has a bit of a goofy side.
  • Backstory: A talented young woman from Japan, Rinko became a police officer in order to help people much like her late father. A year ago she discovered the hidden world of magic and got herself involved in a fight between the hero of her series, Kamen Rider Wizard and the forces he fights against. With the fight over she and the rest of the police department were searching for any rogue Phantoms when she found herself being taken during a routine operation.
  • Skills: While her skills rely mostly in investigation, Rinko also has skills in gunmanship and handling of police technology.
  • Equipment: Rinko only has three pieces of equipment on her from the point when she was taken to become a member of the team. Aside from her gun that shoots silver bullets she also has on her a locket with a picture of her father and the Engage Ring she was given at the start of the show, both of which she keeps to remind her of what she's fighting for.

I'll see on how many people join.

Most of me choices are beat cops who move to more specialized stuff such as being on an armed anti-crime/terrorist unit (aka SWAT).

If I may suggest, you may need to consider characters from intelligence agencies that are considered to be LE in status (e.g. Public Security in Japan is mostly LE in status, but can deal with national security issues).

Honestly didn't expect more than one person to be interested so quickly. Well!

@Nick Valentine: Nicky boy is good. Welcome Aboard!

@Rinko: Why is it that in every crossover RP, the second application is always Kamen Rider? Well, I don't have a lot (read: zero) experience with the franchise, but she seems normal enough to be allowed. Rinko's a go!

@Ominae: Well, it would depend on the character in question, but it seems like most kinds of law enforcement will be fine...except for counter-terrorist/SWAT units, that is. Sorta goes against the point of the roleplay, I think? A bit too...much, I suppose. The Big Good is looking more for investigative elements, not so much SWAT-style fellows with guns, you get what I mean?

And here we goooo! This looks awesome, by the way. I'd love to join in!

Name:

Norman Jayden, FBI Profiler.

Universe:

Heavy Rain.

Appearance:

You can check out his character page there, which has his image.

Personality:

Jayden is a by-the-book cop, which a healthy respect for authority. He tends to profile the people he meets by instinct, and also tends to try to be polite and civil whenever possible. He's normally a pretty nice guy, but he can be pushed too far, at which point he shows that he's not as passive or nice as he seems.

Backstory:

After the events of Heavy Rain, following the Golden Ending, Jayden retired from the FBI to treat his addiction to ARI (alternate reality interface) and the drug Triptocaine. So far he's made progress, and can use ARI without major side effects. However, he's also sworn off Triptocaine, and if he does use ARI too much, he will suffer the withdrawal symptoms, meaning he rarely uses ARI.

Skills:

-Conditioning: Jayden isn't very strong, but he is fast and has a good deal of stamina for someone as thin as he is. This allows him to climb, run, and perform athletic feats that aren't lifting heavy objects. He's also tougher than he looks, although in a straight up fight, he has to resort to being a Combat Pragmatist. Granted, he prefers not letting it get that far.

-ARI: As previously mentioned, Jayden can use the ARI to collect and access information from various databases, sort through evidence quickly, and reconstruct crime scenes. However, using it too much will result in withdrawal symptoms, and because he doesn't use triptocaine anymore, these can be painful and even possibly deadly without cold water available to him.

-Profiling: This is rather self-explanatory, considering that he's an FBI profiler. Jayden is skilled at reading people, and getting information from the behavior of criminals.

Equipment:

-Suit

-Cellphone

-ARI glasses and gloves

-Wallet (about sixty bucks inside)

Misc:

He's developed a fear of junkyards and car crushers for rather obvious reasons.

  • Name: Nightbeat
  • Universe: Transformers
  • Appearance:
  • Personality: Nightbeat is the kind of detective who isn't happy unless he's neck-deep in an investigation, trying to uncover clues or details about the latest case right from the source. He blends in well in all senses of the word - he's just as comfortable in an alien dive as he is in the heat of battle or the slums of Cybertron. A lateral thinker, Nightbeat's leaps of logic aren't always understood by his fellow Autobots, but his sense of intuition rarely leads him astray. Unfortunately, Nightbeat isn't what you'd call a "people person;" his lack of social niceties when he's on the case sometimes leads him into deeper trouble than if he'd just kept his mouth shut.
  • Backstory: Over the course of their career, Nightbeat and Muzzle have had plenty of wild adventures, including one memorable romp that led to them accidentally saving an entire planet. Joining the search for the lost Creation Matrix, Nightbeat's keen deductive senses helped the Autobots overwhelm the mad conqueror Thunderwing.
  • Powers/Skills: As a "Headmaster", Nightbeat is binary-bonded to a smaller organic being; in his case, an organic Nebulan named Muzzle. Muzzle transforms into his head while he's in robot mode; the natural fusion of two intellects increases Nightbeat's processing power and reaction time above the limitations of an average Cybertronian. Additionally, this means that Muzzle can detach from his host body and operate in spaces where Nightbeat would be incapable of reaching. Naturally, this has some downsides: Nightbeat can't operate in robot mode without Muzzle around to form his head, other than staggering around.
  • Equipment: Nightbeat wields a light plasma rifle in robot mode; additionally, he carries a pair of photon pistols that can't deal lethal damage, but can temporarily blind and disorient foes by flashing bright lights.

  • Name: Muzzle
  • Universe: Transformers
  • Appearance:
  • Personality: Muzzle is a lot like his friend Nightbeat; the two of basically of one mind even before they volunteered for the binary-bonding process that would turn them into a single symbiotic individual. Muzzle is somewhat quieter than his Autobot buddy, sometimes serving as a sounding board for his partner's deductive leaps or contributing to investigations with thoughts of his own.
  • Backstory: Despite looking like an Earth human, Muzzle is an alien Nebulon from the planet Nebulos; a distant world embroiled in the Transformer war. Originally a sharp-eyed private investigator on his homeworld, Muzzle's career fell apart and ended in scandal after he was framed. When the Transformers arrived on his world, Muzzle saw a chance to start anew, and now lends his keen senses to Nightbeat as they investigate.
  • Powers/Skills: Naturally, Nebulans are roughtly on par with humans in terms of strength, speed, and durability. As part of the Headmaster process, however, Muzzle's entire body was cybernetically reengineered to accommodate the transformation process, and as such is slightly above normal human limits. As a side effect of this, he's more or less permanently plugged into a suit of armor that transforms around him. To disguise himself, he usually just wears a heavy trenchcoat.
  • Equipment: None
  • Misc.: When Nightbeat transforms, Muzzle usually transforms with him. He can, however, detach before his Autobot body transforms and drive Nightbeat around like a normal car to disguise their true natures further.

You know, I wasn't expecting any RPs to catch my attention in the near future, but this does seem very interesting indeed. Seems like it has high potential to be a League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen-esque crime story. tongue

I did think of a possible character, but there's a problem; they're a veteran detective, in the sense that their title is detective and they're acknowledged as such by other characters, but... well, for starters, they're a minor character, their personality isn't especially well-defined and they have no canon backstory (to the point that they're almost an O.C. Stand-in, but not quite), and we never actually see them doing any detective work. Primarily because they just shunt their cases onto someone else. I'm guessing they wouldn't be allowed.

Nice to see that for every person I knew would join beforehand, there's an entirely new one that got interested as well!

@Norman Jayden: Honestly not too sure how the ARI would work in the roleplay, but hey, not like we can't figure it out. Accepted!

@Nightbeat & Muzzle: Y'know it's only now, when someone joins as an actual car, that I'm thinking there needs to be some sort of garage for cool detective mobiles. Regardless, the both are accepted.

And for President Stalkeyes, it'd help to know exactly who you're talking about. They seem a bit too bland to work out for the roleplay, but having their name would let me actually find out if that's the case or not.

As a note, since we got 4 (technically 5) characters now, with more on the way, I'll be editing in the Approved Sign Ups into the OP. Just as a heads up!

  • Name: Hattori Heiji/The Detective Of The West
  • Universe: Detective Conan - After The Zombie Case
  • Appearance: "Ahou."
  • Personality: Hot-blooded and rather impulsive, Heiji also has an very good eye for details, noticing things that normal people miss. He can be very determined, once holding onto to Kazuha even when she stabbed him with an arrow. When it comes to emotions, Heiji is often rather dense, and is not particularly good at social cues either. He is fond of pranks and jokes. He also can't lie for shit. Fuck with Kazuha and regret it.
  • Backstory: Born in Osaka to the Chief of Police, Heiji's life was fairly normal. He grew up with Kazuha, and they have been friends since childhood. He became the captain of the kendo team in high school, and has found himself involved in several cases, most of which included a "Scooby-Doo" Hoax of some kind. Most recently, he and Kazuha were held hostage due to being witnesses to a murder. During that time he realised that not only was he in love with Kazuha, but that he would never allow her to be hurt while she was with him. He has since decided to outdo Shinichi's confession in London to Ran.
  • Skills: As the high school kendo captain and Osakan regional champion, he's really, really good at it. He can hold his own against members of the Osakan police, and has used it against a wide variety of criminals, including a horde of faked zombies. Obviously, he's a good detective, with an eidetic memory. Speaks fluent English.
  • Equipment: His trademark cap. Has a tendency to wear it backwards until challenged, and then he'll put it the right way round. He also has a good luck amulet made of a pair of handcuffs that he and Kazuha got, well, handcuffed by when they were young. May hold some power, since they protected Conan from a stabbing. Also has a fairly basic cellphone.
  • Misc: Believes in magic, but will never admit it.

  • Name: Touyama Kazuha
  • Universe:As Above
  • Appearance: "Heiji!"
  • Personality: Must like Heiji, Kazuha is hot-blooded and has a bit of a temper. Unlike Heiji, she's actually good at social situations. Quite a tomboy, Kazuha gets easily jealous and is not afraid to make it clear to a person that she dislikes them. She's terrified of the supernatural, and openly believes in magic, and is rather a Tsundere towards Heihi.
  • '''Backstory: Born to a police officer and a woman, Kazuha knew Heiji from an early age. And that's the extent of our knowledge, really. Once, when she was young, she got dressed up for a family occasion, and Heiji saw her under the cherry blossoms. The rest is...well, history. She's been involved in close to all of Heiji's cases, and all the ones we have seen.
  • Skills: A trained practioner of Aikido, mess with Kazuha if you dare. She's also more intelligent than she seems. She makes good luck charms that actually work.
  • Equipment: A couple of good luck charms. Actually work, and are said to be good luck magnets. Similar to Heiji, she has a amulet made from the handcuffs involved in the handcuff incident. Also has a fairly basic cellphone.

Here ya go.

  • Name: William "Billy" Bletcher (His name wasn't mentioned in the original work, so I'm using his actor's name as reference.)
  • Universe: Who Killed Who?, post unmasking of the bad guy
  • Appearance: Billy Bletcher getting threatened by the culprit.
  • Personality: Billy Bletcher is a pretty serious person. He even orders people to stay still when he's investigating murders. Apparently, he loses focus when people are staring at him during his investigations. However, he isn't above it at all. He easily gets startled by the littlest thing, and he is known for screaming like a little girl. He's even afraid of ghosts, and will run away if one confronts him. He will surrender when a gun is pointed right in his face and he doesn't have his gun out in time, but becomes bold if he senses that the gun pointed his direction has no ammo.
  • Backstory: Billy Bletcher was hired to investigate the murder of some wealthy, old coot who got bumped off by a thug. He told everyone to settle down, and clobbered someone in the theater for stepping out of line. During the examination of the coot's body, he briefly came back to life and told the cop not to get too nosy. The old coot even posed for the camera when Bletcher took a picture of him.

When Bletcher interrogated the old man's servants, they messed with him in many ways. First, they sarcastically asked him if he would really like to know the truth when he asked them questions. Second, they gave him a huge pile of weapons when he asked them to present the murder weapon. Finally, they stole the old man's valuables when Bletcher wasn't looking.

Despite the botched interrogation, Bletcher found a suspicious curtain in the back of the room. When Bletcher checked it out, the culprit pointed a gun at Bletcher's face. Bletcher backed off, and the gun comically spat in Bletcher's face. Bletcher used a flashlight to search for the culprit, and found a risqué picture, which covered itself up when he shined the light upon it again.

Bletcher noticed that someone was peeping on him, and pointed his shotgun at the door. However, a ghost opened the door and frightened Bletcher, causing Bletcher to run away.

Bletcher found a closet and readied a revolver. When he opened it, the loyal servants fell out one by one. The culprit must've gotten them out the way before the murder. One of them even took the time to loosen his gag and say that the old man had a lot of servants.

Bletcher spotted the culprit escaping a hatch door and threw a pot through the hole. He got beaned by the wraparound effect, and heard the door knocking. Bletcher demanded to know who was behind the door. As it turned out, it was a pair of skeletons: A Skeleton and Red Skeleton.

Bletcher investigated a painting, but someone left a message: "Well, what did you expect behind here?" The culprit got the drop on Bletcher and fired at him. The culprit somehow missed, and Bletcher opened the closet door to confront the culprit, but the culprit frightened him.

Bletcher ran up the stairs and leapt into the arms of the culprit by accident. Bletcher realized his mistake and ran away again. He tried hiding in a closet, but Santa Claus told him to get lost. Bletcher fell through a trap door, and somehow fell down the stairs.

The culprit got Bletcher in another ambush and pointed his revolver at Bletcher. The culprit told Bletcher to raise his hands, but the culprit ran out of ammo, so Bletcher was able to turn the tables on the culprit and place him in a trap.

As it turned out, it was Robert Emmett O'Connor, the announcer of many murder mysteries. It seems Robert killed the old man to ensure that he can tell an interesting murder mystery to his viewers. When news of the case got out across the worlds, Bletcher got hired.
  • Powers/Skills: Bletcher can literally extend his hands to the ceiling. He can only do this when he surrenders to someone. Bletcher can also shrink to avoid any threat heading his way if he's afraid of something. Despite his weight, Bletcher is athletic since he can persistently pursue the culprit through the mansion. Bletcher also has the nice legs of a swimsuit model, even though that defies logic in every shape and form.
  • Equipment: Bletcher uses a shotgun when he's finding criminals. When Bletcher is afraid, it loses its shape and bends downward to emphasize his cowardice. In case that fails, he has a revolver as a back-up weapon. He uses a flashlight to search dark areas. If he were to run out of ammo, he carries a police club and a hammer as melee weapons. He carries a pitch whistle to determine if the pitch of his scream is just right.
  • Misc.: Bletcher didn't question the fact the culprit looked completely human. Maybe humans and dog-people existed in peace in Bletcher's reality.

Let's see if this works.

  • Name: Jessica Drew / "Spider-Woman"
  • Universe: Spider-Woman (2014) (Post-series)
  • Appearance: "Helping the innocent by hospitalizing the guilty"
  • Personality: Jessica is a veteran superhero with an outgoing and self-proclaimed "type-A" personality. She's snarky and sometimes a little abrasive but despite her constant complaining about superheroics and having to deal with bizarre situations on a daily basis, Jessica can't stay still while people are getting hurt or villains are on the loose. Zombies, alien invasions, parallel universes, magic... she's seen it all and is not afraid to deal with it (and make jokes while doing so).
  • Backstory: Jessica's backstory is a complicated, confusing, and often contradictory mess even in-universe but here's the basic rundown.
    • Jessica Miriam Drew was born in Britain in the early 30s and was struck by a fatal illness. Her father saved her life by injecting her with a radioactive serum made out of spider blood which, given that this is the Marvel universe, naturally gave her spider-themed superpowers.
    • She was put on stasis as part of the treatment and woke up with no memories of her previous life. After a few fights, life-changing revelations, joining Hydra, defecting to SHIELD, and officially becoming an Avenger; she spent roughly the last 20 years of her life as an active superhero one way or another.
    • In the wake of Spider-Verse, Jessica realized that the Avenger life didn't fit her anymore. So she decided to get away from organization-based super heroics to get more in contact with her private investigator side and take on street-level criminals to, as she put it, "help normal people". During her adventures, she was joined by Ben Urich, an old journalist and private investigator himself, and Roger Gocking an ex-D-list criminal-turned-sidekick who later became her boyfriend.
    • The collapse of the Ultimate Marvel universe into the mainstream one and the ensuing events lead to a lot of changes in the world. The big one for Jessica was that she was pregnant now and later gave birth to a healthy kid called Gerry. Motherhood is still a new thing for her but she's hanging in there.
  • Powers/Skills:
    • Detective Experience: Given her past as a super-spy, a double agent, and a privater investigator, Jessica knows a lot about detective work and a thing or two about legal procedure. She's also and expert in infiltration and espionage techniques.
    • Master Combatant: Jessica has been trained in a variety of martial arts and has years of experience backing up her physical abilities. Having great reflexes doesn't hurt either.
    • Superhuman Resistance: As part of her powers, she's gained an incredible tolerance to toxins, drugs, and radiation. Her resistance to shock and physical trauma is also highly amplified making her able to survive extreme temperatures and even dull the pain from her wounds.
    • Superhuman Strength: The spider-serum augmented her musculature, increasing her strength and making her able to lift a maximum of 2 tons.note
    • Venom Blasts: Jessica can generate bioelectricity and use it offensively, raging from simply stunning people to seriously causing them damage. And it usually takes the form of an energy blast coming from her hands. The title is just a misnomer since there is no actual venom involved.
    • Wallcrawling: Derived from her natural bioelectricity, Jessica can "magnetize" herself to cling to walls and other surfaces.
  • Equipment:
    • Glasses: A pair of nifty yellow-colored shades with built-in X-rayish vision. They let her see through walls, like so.
    • Super-Suit: Nothing more than the obligatory primary color superhero outfit which helps with avoiding roadrash when she goes on her motorcycle. She can bend the little wings on her back—that imitate her classic costume—to "glide" (It actually just makes her jump further than she normally would).
    • Cellphone: Exactly that.
  • Misc.: Details about how her costume and glasses work.

Hey Truth, don't forget to put the asterisk beside the names in the first post. Makes it look neater.

  • Name: Ema Skye
  • Universe: Phoenix Wright
  • Appearance: Forensic Investigator
  • Personality: Ema is very enthusiastic about science, even going as far as collecting other people's fingerprints and occasionally looking for fingerprints in places for fun, and is generally a helpful, cheerful and friendly person, although she knows when she has to stop and act professional. She has an addiction to a snack food called "snackoos" that she eats when she begins getting stressed. She actually dislikes doing much detective work and prefers to work on the forensic side of things.
  • Backstory: Ema lost her parents at an early age and as such was raised by her sister, Lana, who became chief prosecutor. However, one day while waiting for her sister at her office she got involved in the murder of Neil Marshall in an incident known as the SL-9 Incident, to which she was brought in as a witness. The case came back to haunt her many years later when her sister became the suspect in the murder of another detective, but Lana was found not guilty thanks to the efforts of Phoenix Wright. After that, Ema studied hard to become a forensics scientist, but failed her test and got put into detective work, however, she tried again and finally managed to get her dream job.
  • Powers/Skills: Ema has no special powers of her own, but she has a lot of knowledge of forensics, as it is to be expected of her
  • Equipment:
    • Ema has a cellphone in which she has a database for forensics needs.
    • Luminol bottles for looking for blood
    • Glasses with pink lenses that she can use to see the blood found through luminol testing.
    • Fingerprint powder
    • A lot of snackoos
  • Misc.: She has no fighting abilities whatsoever, nor the equipment to defend herself with.

Alright, let's get down to business.

@Heiji & Kazuha: While I'm still a bit skeptical on their status as an actual duo, from what I've heard/found out about them, they qualify enough for me to not worry about it. They're good.

@"Billy Bletcher": Yeeeeah. While this does fit within the Character Rules, I'm going to have to drop a big fat No on this on the basis it isn't even a character to begin with. Not only does the character not have his own name, he comes from a one-shot cartoon short and only exists to be "the guy who shouldn't be investigating a murder in a haunted house hahaha". I'd be happy to accept another character if you want to try someone else, but I'll only accept them if they are an actual character and not a punch-line.

@Jessica Drew: Already cleared up some of the more vague details off-site, so I'm not seeing any other reason to have her not be accepted, sooo...Yeah. She's that.

@Ema Skye: Accepted. Glad to have some Ace Attorney in here!

Got someone in mind now I got a good look at the roster. This one's the first choice I have.

  • Name: Inspector Chung Chau
  • Universe: Hit Team, a few months after the end of the movie.
  • Appearance: Daniel Wu's face is used as the basis. For general appearance, he wears a Navy Blue combat shirt, gray combat pants and black tac boots.
  • Personality: Insp. Chung is a dedicated officer in the HKPF, although he takes it seriously when a crime committed by a fellow officer is due to mitigating circumstances. Even if this was the case, the inspector believes that his/her actions will not make the situation better. He also takes time to investigate something if he sees something that can reveal a major clue.
  • Backstory: Insp. Chau is in charge of a small team in the Surveillance Support Unit's D Team, known as "Hit Team", responsible for conducting on foot surveillance and covert tracking of persons of interests. He gets involved in a case of underground triad banks being robbed of their cash by ex-cops on orders from the Criminal Investigation Bureau, which ultimately led to an arrest of a constable who resigned in order to pool enough cash for his friend in the force to get treatment in Switzerland since he got paralyzed in an op and the bureaucrats refused to help, not even for a dollar. The inspector's actions got himself good publicity with the force and in the public.
  • Powers/Skills:
    • Fluent in Cantonese (and Mandarin) Chinese and English (with some hint of a mixture of America - California and Hong Kong accents)
    • Knowledgeable on Hong Kong laws post-handover
    • Trained to handle small arms up to assault rifles
    • Trained to conduct surveillance on targets by following on foot, using cameras (photo/video) and informants
    • Trained in basic unarmed combat
  • Equipment:
    • A Glock 17, replacing his M1911A1 as his main sidearm. Carries it with him in a web belt 24/7 with four magazines alongside a tac flashlight in a pouch.
    • A Colt M4A1 carbine with a red dot scope and vertical foregrip with four magazines.
    • Criminal Investigation Bureau waterproof windbreaker.
    • White latex gloves when investigating crime scenes.
    • HKPF Warrant Card
    • Wallet with Hong Kong money/credit card/Octopus card.
    • Radio extender with ear piece and PTT button.
    • A 2001-era mobile phone (Nokia-type) for personal use
    • Cameras (Photo/Video) for surveillance use and binoculars.
    • ESKI-made SDU tac vest (Can stop up to AR rounds) for protection.
    • Balaclava
    • Has some white plasticuffs. Around 4 for restraining persons of interest.
    • Green flight gloves, used to grip things when slippery or he needs to handle things without leaving any traces of fingerprints.
  • Misc.: The Surveillance Support Unit, especially D Team, is not that well known to those who aren't familiar with the history of the Hong Kong Police Force, moreso in English media (Cantonese Chinese media has more info) since it operates as a plainclothes unit, while conducting surveillance on persons of interest. It got started in the mid 90s to help CIB officers make successful arrests due to a spate of armed robberies in the era which exposed the Special Duties Unit to a lot of media attention. When officers go to tac gear, they get mistaken for the SDU due to similar gear. But their main purpose is to conduct surveillance ops against criminal/terrorist activity in Hong Kong and intervene in situation when they're still early by moving in just in case the SDU or any other friendly forces are too far to intervene.

    • The Insp.'s main role is to conduct surveillance alongside general CIB investigation when needed. Going tactical is a secondary role.

Here's the blue haired detective waifu. chie is still best waifu.

  • Name: Naoto Shirogane, title of "Detective Prince" given by the media.
  • Universe: Persona 4, taken from after the Magatsu Inaba dungeon but before the events of the True Ending.
  • Appearance:The "Detective Prince" is here!
  • Personality: Very serious, focused, mission-oriented, intelligent, and analytical, Naoto is mature for her age and rarely jokes around, preferring to operate in a sophisticated and formal way which makes her seem uptight and leaves her distant from others. Her gender and age are a source of insecurity for Naoto since she feels frustrated at being treated like a child and hates being looked down at for both that and her gender. This causes her to put on a more masculine identity: never correcting the use of male pronouns on her, avoiding feminine attire, and taking steps to appear more male and while accepting her Shadow Self has made her more open to being a female, it's still a very early work in progress.
  • Backstory:
    • The fifth generation of the famous Shirogane detectives Naoto lost her parents at a very young age and was then raised by her grandfather. This wouldn't stop her from taking up the family trade and at some point would become so good that the media would dub her the "Detective Prince" but not everything was good for her in the detective field. As a child and a female she had to face discrimination from the male controlled and ran police force. She soon began to feel ashamed of being female and would soon start to adapt into a masculine identity. This would continue to go on until the Inaba murder case hit the peaceful town. The local police, finding no leads for this bizarre crime, employed Naoto to help solve the case.
    • In soon time she would meet the Investigation Team, a local group of high schoolers from the same school she enrolled in that were working together to solve the mystery. At first she found their investigation as nothing more than a game.....which would change soon after she became one of the few that were thrown into the Midnight Channel through the TV. The Investigation Team would find her in that other world in which she was facing off against Shadow Naoto, a Shadow Self that embodies the suppressed inner negative feelings of their human counterpart. In this case, Shadow Naoto was the negative feelings that Naoto had about being looked down at in the police force for her age and gender. Not accepting this other self, Naoto denied it and that caused it to transform and attack. The Investigation Team was ready though and they handled the rampaging Shadow. Naoto would then finally accept the Shadow Self, gaining her Persona Sukuna-Hikona.
    • The Kid Detective would join the team and her excellent detective skills would be a great asset for the group, so much so that she would would be the main member to lead the team to find not only the person who had kidnapped each of them but also arrest the original culprit, the individual who killed the first two victims. With the case being solved and Inaba safe again, Naoto would find herself getting pulled into a different investigation.
  • Powers/Skills:
    • Sukuna-Hikona: Naoto, by facing her Shadow Self and accepting it, is granted a Persona, a manifestation of the users personality, and the following powers that a Persona User gets. Those powers given to a User being enhanced physical and mental abilities. This means that Naoto is faster and more agile, hits harder, and can take physical abuse better than usual with a added bonus that dark and light based magic is weaker against her. Mind you, this doesn't mean that she's Superman. It just means that she has a sizable boost on those fields. As for the Persona, Naoto can will it into existence by "crushing" a tarot card. Once that is done, the Persona will do it's selected skill and then fade away. If the Persona is hit before or during the skill then the Persona stops it's actions and thus fades away. Skills are:
      • Mudoon: A single target dark magic attack that deals high amounts of dark damage on the target if the attack hits. The attack works by having a dark circle of energy appear in front of the target and then after a short period the attack will trigger. If the target can move away from the circle in time then the attack will do no harm. note
      • Hamaon: A single target light magic attack that deals high amounts of light damage on the target if the attack hits. The attack works by having a circle of light and multiple holy paper tags appear under and around the target and after a moment the attack will trigger. If the target can move away from the circle in time then the attack will do no harm. Both this and Mudoon use the Persona's spiritual power and both of them can only be used so much, 5 times for each being the limit. After the uses run out Naoto must either get a good, long rest or use something that recharges magical sources.
      • Vorpal Blade: Sukuna-Hikona releases a physical attack that has the Persona cutting up a 10ft area around itself in a fast and powerful attack, seeking to hurt any foe of the user. This move for every use tires out Naoto as if though her Persona doing it was like she did it. This means that repeat use of it can knock her unconscious from the lack of energy.
    • Combat: She's a pretty good shot with her revolver and pistol type guns in general. Other type of guns can be used with some skill but Naoto is mostly a small firearms user. As well, she has more than enough knowledge of basic melee combat, though no where near what a trained martial artist can do. Her combat skills have only been further boosted by the many hours of killing Shadows.
    • Detective Skills: Don't get a title like that from just by being ok at detective work.
    • Cooking: She's decent at it. Better than two certain female team mates.....
  • Equipment:
    • Revolver: Naoto's personal weapon, it's a powerful six shooter. Naoto keeps plenty of spare ammunition on her person.
    • Cell Phone: A flip phone. Can be used for calling and text messaging.
  • Misc: Just to note, Naoto's Persona stuff is a mixture of Persona 4 and Arena game mechanics with general changes and details needed for it to make sense in a RP.

[up] Naoto's good, accepted.

I'll make us a Discussion Thread once either two more people join or sometime over the weekend. Not sure when the actual game will start, though.
