The hero Chuhulain was born three times, if I remember his story right.

But yeah, my understanding of Dionsyius eas that he was supposed to die (or be killed) every year and then be reborn. I'd expect that out modern image of him is a combination of a couple of gods, which is frequently how gods got multiple offices (Helios, for instance, had most of his offices taken over by Apollo).

Pretty impressive for somebody who usually gets put on the low end of the gods' hierarchy.

His constant themes of Driven to Madness / Mad Oracle, combined with symbolizing alcohol ITSELF, have apparently reached the logical conclusion in modern paganism—Dionysus is actually well-known as a patron of the mentally-ill and drug-addicted. And yeah, many of those sufferers are artists.

Hell, I'm working with him on the subject of mental illness (depression and emotional issues). He's surprisingly good at helping me out.
