They are going full Jack Kirby and it's beautiful.
I actually like the other Thor movies.
I'm glad through my Norse mythology knowledge I was able to pin the villainess as Hel immediately.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.Awwww Hel! Naw!
One Strip! One Strip!Taika Waititi saved cinema.
Looks good.
Isn't Doctor Strange supposed to show up?
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Even though Hela looks nothing like Hel in the myths.
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesGlad the Thor franchise's found a personality.
Little disappointed it's Got G's.
Basically. These movies (and the comics) have about as much to do with the actual Norse myths as Disney's Hercules.
To the Norse myths that is.
In fact I'm reading Neil Gaiman's latest book right now and in the forward he mentions how the Marvel comics got him into Norse myths and how surprised he was to read the real ones and see how different they were.
Okay, time to say something: The Thor franchise has always been a little bit goofy. Let's not forget that Thor was trying to buy horses and smashed cups in his very first movie. The only difference is now that the franchise shifted more to the particular brand of humour the current director has. If you had watched any of his movies, you would know that he excels in putting stuff together which doesn't really go together. Like Vampires living in a modern city and going to clubs, or a norse god talking about his work buddy.
So no, this is not Got G's identity. This is combing something absolutely epic with something totally mundane, and it works so far.
Oh c'mon this is totally Asgardians of the Galaxy.
This looks really cool.
I enjoyed the first two Thor films, but from what I've seen I think I'll like this even more.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobIt's more the Jack Kirby cosmic mythology. The same one that spawned the New Gods, The Eternals, etc.
Which is funny, considering that the movie seems to be combining elements from Walt Simonson's Thor run (Hela, Skurge) with elements of Greg Pak's Planet Hulk (Sakaar, Gladiator Hulk).

Also The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum's character) is the brother of The Collector (Benicio del Toro's character from GOTG) in the comics.
Also I kind of hope that they combine Hela with Mistress Death in the MCU. Because not only would it give us more of Cate Blanchett, but I could totally see Thanos trying to kill every living thing in the universe in order to prove his love/devotion to Goth Queen Cate.
I trust that they will manage to keep the tone still "Thor", meaning with all the epic elements which Got G doesn't have, but I actually feel that it makes sense to go a little bit more in the Got G direction. Even if that more or less means that Earth is the only sane place in the universe which is otherwise through and through wacky. But then, all the others most likely think that Earth is wacky and they are normal.....
That explains why they look really similar.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.I don't really see the "Guardians of the Galaxy" tone in the Ragnarok trailer at all. People seem to be confusing Taika Waititi's style of comedic flavor for Guardians....for some reason? Even though the Guardians of the Galaxy stuff is a bit more one-linery than the comedy shown in the Ragnarok trailer.
Probably because of the apparently greater emphasis on humor, plus a trendy song.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.That particular Led Zeppelin song actually fits Thor very well, if you're familiar with the lyrics.
Plus it just sounds cool in general.
As I mentioned elsewhere, I kind of hope that they actually used the song as inspiration for the score....even if that means yet another score in a totally different style.
I mean that song is explicitly about Norse mythology-honestly its weird that its taken them three Thor movies to use it.
To be fair, Thor 1 and 2 came before Guardians of the Galaxy and it was GOTG that made sticking an existing song from an actual artist into a trailer a popular thing.
"That's a to-go order. See! It's already gone!!"Please tell me you don't actually believe that.
Please, please, please.
Like...please?
If I had to guess, Jimmy Page was probably being stingy with the rights to the song until now. Led Zeppelin are notoriously stingy about using their songs for ads.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
So... I didn't expect this. I didn't care for the first two films. But... my god... this trailer is beautiful.
How many Mythology Gag's did you count?
