Yeah, if you want the Dracoshield from Desaix, you really have to work for it and plan carefully.
IMO, it's not worth it. You can get one slightly easier later.

You can make a bunch via side quest too by getting dragon scales.
Just watch the extra dialogue online or buy the dlc to make grinding easier if you want to do it yourself.
