I watched a few of her videos back when she used to be part of TGWTG. I thought they were okay, but I never really got into her stuff like I did with Rap Critic, Todd In The Shadows, or Brows Held High (As of now, BHH is the only thing I watch from Channel Awesome).
I am quite a fan of the stuff she's put up on youtube since she left TGWTG and is doing her own thing. He video essay on Rent is pretty good (And works well if you saw Folding Idea's own scene analysis).
The Nostalgia Chick was never one of my favourite reviewers, but Lindsay Ellis is. Her videos are great — engaging, funny and informative.
There is a TV trope page about her (at least her Nostalgia Chick line of videos). I think her reviews are pretty great and have matured a lot over the years. Definitely one of my favourite cinema critic youtubers out there.
Same here. Her old content don't appeal to me at all, my nowadays I am watching everything she releases.
I'm watching a lot of her older stuff courtesy of the mirrors that are up on teh Tube. She's quite engaging.
I enjoyed her old stuff, but her new content outclasses it by MILES.
Also, there was technically a thread for her stuff, it was just the general Chez Apocalypse thread.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. She was always one of my least favorites back in the day when TGWTG ruled the Internet critic scene. I wanted fun stuff, not feminist critiques. And I still think her going after pop music was just kinda lame .Also her Jem and the Holograms review was just lazy and objectively uninformed.
That all being said, I like what I've seen of her on You Tube. I was kind of worried she'd attack Phantom of the Opera for being "problematic" but she gave it a very good analysis and seems like a genuine fan.
I think we can have both. Hell, I think she provides both.
Oh God! Natural light!Honestly, her critiques are better than most reviews that just try to do fun stuff.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Older post, but this is a stream she did a week ago with Contrapoints, Hbomberguy, Kyle Kallgren, Dan Olson, and Elisa Hansen on Internet personas and the accessibility of content. It was interesting to hear them describe their own choices and challenges in persona. For instance, Lindsay originally wanting to break free from the Nostalgia Chick character, but eventually developing a new persona as a kinda drunk overthinker to make discussing complex film theory more palatable. Or inversely, Kyle developing a comic persona to riff on art films, but eventually growing genuinely interested in surrealist film and having to evolve his character from a parody of a scholar into an actual scholar.
Ehhhh. To the me of 2009, I'm not so sure. Social commentary is inherently a buzzkill when you just want to see someone freak the fuck out.
Like I said, her attacking pop music and how Katy Perry allegedly set back LGBT acceptance/perception (?????) still doesn't sit well with me.
Like, even in this video she acknowledges back then she did stuff she wouldn't even do now, like throwing around the word "retarded" all casually. (thanks for the link, BTW. I love Contra Points)

So Lindsey's revealed her next video(s) and it's A 12-PART SERIES ON TRANSFORMERS
12 Episodes? Guessing one Episode per (Western) series with one on the movies and an intro of some sort. Based on the number (There's 10 Western Transformers Series: G1/G2, BW, BM, RID(2001), Armada, Energon, Cybertron, Animated, Prime, RID(2015))
Unless she's a huge Transformers fan, I feel like the videos being exclusively about the Bay movies is a far more likely prospect
When does the first one air?
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Huh, according to her twitter Lindsay got engaged over the weekend. That's awesome.
Well, her first Loose Canon video was on Starscream, whom she discussed in considerable depth, across multiple incarnations of the show, so...I'll think she's a fan, yeah.
Oh God! Natural light!Just want to say that her video essays on the "Phantom of the Opera" and "Rent" movies are masterpieces. I'm not a fan of any of the two franchises but I learn so much about how and how not to make a movie from those video essays.
It might be on the Bay movies. She's hinted a few times at wanting to analyze Bay's filmmaking because he is super influential and his movies almost always do extremely well despite people bashing them left and right.
Although it would be interesting to look at the rest of the franchise as well. I tried watching the original show recently (because it ended before I was born) and it...isn't very good. Like, at all. There's some good ideas there, but it's a dumb 80s cartoon that aged pretty badly. The movie's okay though.
Not Three Laws compliant.Oh yeah, I think most fans will agree the G1 show is pretty bad :-P Just look at TF Wiki Dot Net (which, BTW, is the best fan wiki ever made coz it doesn't take itself seriously), whose episode recaps LOVE making fun of the show's dodgy logic.
Heck, Takara's included with some of their masterpiece figures, accessories "homaging" some of the show animation errors!
So apparently Lindsay is gonna keep some of her older videos off of You Tube instead of reuploading them and has stated she does not want them to be mirrored by anybody. Given how she's incredibly embarrassed by her older videos (don't blame her, her new content is much better), I can respect that.
Also, yeah, she's a huge Transformers fan.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? She has done quite a few Transformers videos in the past, mostly on the show I believe.
I assume one of those she doesn't want mirrored is that one infamous "Thanks for the Feedback" episode that was taken down within a few days of its original airing (in which the video was a sketch about a guy who raps about rape).
Stuff like that is probably a big reason why Lindsey sees videos from that era as old shames.
oh but also do you have a source for that

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Michael Bay announced 14 more movies.
Lindsay announced 12 episodes of just Transformers.
Coincidence?
yes
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.
Surprised we don't have a thread dedicated to her (at least afaict), talk about one of the best Internet reviewers/video essayists out there:
