Year 748 BCE:

  • The southern group splits into three tribes, all of whom war with each other constantly due to blood conflicts.*

  • The first tribe, Bachor, elects a leader who shall be referred to as the Hooded Queen. This 'election', was mostly her seizing power with approval from the upper classed tribals.*

  • The second tribe is ruled by the upper class, and occasionally goes into civil war.*

  • The third is ruled by an old man known as Wind Walker. He's not very active when it comes to politics. In fact, he's a hermit.*

I decided to label the areas to avoid confusion. Year 747 BCE

VIENRAN, THE HOMELAND

  • Wind Walker's tribe build a palisade wall to protect their tribe against their enemies.
  • In retaliation, the artisans from Bachor invent the flaming javelins.
  • The second tribe, weakened by both internal and external wars, face difficult times.

TATRAN, BLACK PALM FOREST

  • Vokungard grows from a small tribe to a medium tribal settlement.
  • Scouts find a tribe deep in the Black Palm Forest. They are crow-like humanoids called Corvix. Warchief Rogma prepares an assault agaist the Corvix tribe, who seem to have fewer people.

746 BCE:

VIENRAN, THE HOMELAND

  • Wind Walker retreats into solitude, due to paranoia. A masked man with crow like features, later confirmed to be exiled from the Corvix due to something unthinkable, becomes his speaker. His name is Heron.

The tribe, growing in size, is eventually called the tribe of Heron, though Wind Walker was, and still continues to be the leader, even as a paranoid old man who Heron has little trouble influencing, according to Wind Walker's wife's own scrawlings.

  • The second tribe, now known as the Drozz tribe, eventually stops its own internal conflicts after the Hooded Queen makes a grab for power in that area.*

  • The Drozz tribe hears of successes to the north, and sends explorers in the direction of Vokungard. Meanwhile, a smith's apprentice begins to perfect bronze weaponry, keeping Bachor from attacking them, for some time. They are named Aaron, and they soon become the Drozz's leader, a cunning yet slightly unhinged ruler. He takes the title of 'Chief Builder', though it's clear he's more like a king.*

  • Due to events with the Vokungard and the Corvix below, he becomes one of the wealthiest humans on the continent, though he works on building fortifications similar to the Tribe of Heron's.*

  • Bachor, under the Hooded Queen's rule, enters the beginning of their first golden age, and grows, similar to Vokungard. After learning of Bronze weaponry, they begin work on smelting ores themselves, beginning to make their way towards iron, though the work is slow.*

TATRAN, BLACK PALM FOREST

Vokungard continues to grow, eventually discovered by Drozz explorers, who, under the orders of Aaron, begin trading bronze materials, and gaining a hefty sum. The Vokun don't seem to mind the heavy prices, and enter a bit of a begrudging alliance, though Rogma is away at the time, due to...

  • The Corvix and Vokungard are at war, thanks to War Chief Rogma, who attempts a crusade of conquest and extermination, though he is soundly beaten back, due to the Corvix having some sort of technological advantage...

  • Unbeknownst to him, other Drozz explorers had gone around his tribe, and into the forest, trading with the Corvix.

  • Aaron is subject to many, many angry letters from Rogma after this.*

765 BCE: VIENRAN, THE HOMELANDS

  • The Drozz tribe finish fortification, a stone wall around the tribe, more resistant than Heron's wooden palisade.
  • The Chief Builder, Aaron, keep getting rich. A strong feeling of greed starts to grow in his heart... He sends a diplomat to Heron and try to form an alliance.
  • In Bachor, the Hooded Queen starts to get worried after the sudden empowering of the Drozz, so, she decided to attack Heron's tribe instead. Meanwhile, iron casting keep being developed in the tribe.
  • In his paranoid hallucinations, Wind Walker starts to hear the voice of an entity who calls itself the Dog God.

TATRAN, BLACK PALM FOREST

  • Chief Rogma, accusing Aaron betrayal, orders that Vokungard stops trading with Drozz.
  • The Corvix, empowered by both their own technology of crossbows and, alchemical bombs, plus bronze armor available after trading with the Drozz, make a devastating attack against Vokungard.
  • The Vokun people think Rogma is responsible for their tribe being under such overwhelming attack. They trap Rogma and offer him to the Corvix, as a sacrifice in exchange for peace.
  • Rogma, in his death, uses his last breath to bestow a curse upon the Vokun, the Corvix and Aaron. He was chosen by the spirits, after all.
  • Meanwhile, Drozz continue to explore Tatran. They cross the Black Palm Forest and find a rocky desert, devoid of all life, with skeletons of colossal creatures spread around the place, and dotted with pools of fuming, yellow acid. They call this land The Carcass Wastes.

765 BCE:

VIENRAN, THE HOMELANDS

  • The Drozz tribe's diplomats arrive to a battle-weary Heron, who, though he seeks to destroy Bachor, doesn't trust Aaron at all. Trades are made, deals are had, but, nothing serious.

  • Wind Walker attempts to make Dog God the mandatory religion of the Tribe of Heron, causing a few raised eyebrows. Heron outwardly shows his full support, while silently gauging which tribal officials are most loyal to him, and showing how generous he can be to his subjects.

  • Most of the riches the Tribe of Heron earns, however, are used to pay off the tribe of Bachor.

  • In Bachor, the Hooded Queen is satisfied with the price, and begins sending pilgrims northward, in an attempt to gain as many riches as Aaron is gaining.

  • Aaron is slightly irritated by Rogma's lack of entrepreneurship, as he calls it, though he announces to the Vokun that he's still willing to trade, for lower prices than before. Meanwhile, he begins placing smelting and mining as the top priorities of the Drozz, though unlike the Hooded Queen, he lacks slaves.

TATRAN, BLACK PALM FOREST

  • The spirits choose a new leader, known as Rask, a former solider from the war with the Corvix. Unlike Rogma, though, he's actually quite civil towards Aaron, even with his own dislike for the man. The spirits are surprisingly chill with this, as they tell Rask that the curse against them shall not occur as long as his descendants occupy the tribe's leadership.

  • Thus begins the Dynasty of Rask.

  • The Corvix, now at peace with the Vokun, begin teaching them about archery, which they teach to the Drozz.

  • Rogma is preserved in writing as both a hero and a butcher, though people tend to avoid his grave, due to a rumor about his spirit being bound to it.

  • The people of Bachor arrive, and begin trading with the Vokun, though what little Iron they've successfully made is not for sale.

  • Rask begins sending flirtatious letters to the Hooded Queen.

TATRAN, THE CARCASS WASTES.

  • Here is where several explorer groups turn back, and report to Aaron. Others, however, choose to go on, and discover that the desert contains a large quantity of ores, and one green scaled ghoul which claims to be the king of the wasteland.

  • Luckily, he has an absolute fascination for bronze, and offers a trade with his people.

  • The Drozz accept, and The Ghoul King informs them that his kingdom is in ruin due to a group of dwarves on the other side of the desert, in a mountainous region.

  • His 'people' are few enough that one attack would likely wipe them out, but they claim to have knowledge of the lands up ahead.

744 BC: VIENRAN, THE HOMELANDS

  • Belief in Dog God slowly grows in Heron, as Wind Walker preaches. Heron himself still shows support, but it is more subdued.
  • With Bachor's newfound money, they begin to build fortifications of their own to keep up with their neighbors. The pilgrims sent northward also find more ore deposits, and they quickly claim the land.
  • The Hooded Queen receives the flirtatious letters, and shows mild interest. She sends a few of her own back.
  • Drozz finds a deposit of iron, and start to begin to smelt it.
  • Aaron seems to be uninterested in archery, as he continues to focus on trading and industry.

TATRAN, BLACK PALM FOREST

  • The Vokun begin to rebuild their army after their loss, and with help from the Corvix, start to train archers as well.
  • Rask pursues closer bonds with the Corvix, and starts to send diplomats to them for trading and other purposes.
  • Rask also sends a diplomat to Bachor, to hopefully make some sort of deal for iron, or how to smelt it.

TATRAN, THE CARCASS WASTES

  • Drozz scales up trade with the ghoul, and sends scouts through to try and find these dwarves. The scouts are supplied by the king as they pass through the wasteland.

742 BC: VIENRAN, THE HOMELANDS

  • After a sudden appearance of a new light in the evening sky, as the planet Auris approaches, faith in Dog God suddenly spikes in the Tribe of Heron.

  • Bachor begins to receive missionaries from Heron, but rebuke them. Tensions increase due to the Hooded Queen's distrust of religion.

  • Drozz refines the process of smelting iron, and pushes the mines deeper underground to reach purer veins.

  • Aaron builds storehouses for the gains of his trade, and negotiates a defensive pact with the Hooded Queen after ... "removing" Rask's diplomat.

TATRAN, BLACK PALM FOREST

  • The Vokun develop processes to treat the wood of the native palms, creating both suitable building materials and valuable black dye in doing so. They trade these secrets to the Corvix in return for an additional legion of Corvix mercenaries.

  • Upon hearing of his diplomat's death in Bachor, Rask sends threats to the Hooded Queen and sends envoys to the Corvix to ask for their assistance.

TATRAN, THE CARCASS WASTES

  • The Ghoul King is amenable to the increased trade with Drozz, though he begins to ask for slaves instead of bronze.

  • Drozz tentatively creates an outpost in the wastes. The people there use the bones scattered about to build their walls and create the structure for their houses.

  • The scouts return, with a fair number dead. They report that the dwarves spoke a language unknown to them, and attacked them with advanced weaponry made of a jet-black metal. However, when they began to retreat they were not followed.

  • In honor of the scouting party, the Drozz name the mountains to the east "THE DEATHRAIN SPIRES"

NEW AREA, THE DEATHRAIN SPIRES

  • Dwarven sentries report incursions from a new race, and send a legate towards their capitol to ask what they should do to fortify their position.

740 BCE: VIENRAN, THE HOMELANDS

  • The people of Heron finish building the first Temple of the Dog God, during which Wind Walker and Heron both make an appearance.

The Drozz miners in METALCORE manage to hold off several aberrations, forcing them to retreat, while they get to work on mining. Aaron begins to 'negotiate' with them, and adds them to the slave trade.

In Bachor, the Hooded Queen responds to Rask's threats with sanctions. Due to her alliance with the other two tribes, the Vokun are suddenly low on trading partners.

TATRAN, BLACK PALM FOREST

  • Karnak ends up in a 'mutually beneficial' relationship with Rask, though he doesn't think much of her. The Corvix and the Vokun territories begin to merge.

  • The Order of Shadowclaw appoint a leader named Jaben, who ends up being murdered by one of the other assassins. Internal feuds are common in the order, though all are loyal to Karnak. Rask, not so much.

  • Rask takes a human queen to honor the agreement with the spirits, much to the Corvix's irritation. He does, however, have one Corvix child with Karnak.

TATRAN, THE CARCASS WASTES

  • Skullgrad begins to arm themselves in the event of Dwarfern attack.

  • Skullgradian people manage to craft the acid into poisonous weapons, several of which they silently trade with the Corvix, due to Rask's hatred of them.

  • The Ghoul King receives several aberrations, several of which actually pledge loyalty to him, possibly due to a shared ugliness, according to Aaron.

  • Aaron, during one of his few visits to Skullgrad, sends a 'polite messenger' to the Dwarves, who was most certainly not one of his few political enemies. After his inevitable cruel and unusual public torture, Aaron declares the Dwarves to be a major threat.

  • The Ghoul King and Aaron spend several hours debating coming to reasonable agreements for their two nations.

  • The Ghoul King begins to 'borrow' Vokun settlers, as slaves.

738 BCE: VIENRAN, THE HOMELANDS

  • Heron's missionaries have a much better time in the land of the Drozz than they do in Bachor. Aaron, upon his return, 'appoints' a high priest for his budding nation, now much more than a simple tribe. The high priest is a lady known as Sigma, a red haired intellectual with her trademarked purple coats.

  • Sigma founds the Order of the Purple Coats, a secret group obsessed with logging and marking down knowledge. Naturally, she bequeaths her title as High Priest to a Vokun settler known as Bacchcus, before going back to documenting findings. Oddly enough, one must wear a purple coat to enter her group.

  • Drozz miners continue to smelt the new ore, and discover it is much tougher than bronze. Testing it against iron is now a priority.

  • In Bachor, the upper class nobility begin to mistreat several of Wind Walker's missionaries, and the Hooded Queen doesn't bat an eye. Her attempts to turn the other tribes against the Vokun, however, have hit a road block due to Aaron's interest in trading with everyone. Wind Walker himself is upset with her, and Heron is following the will of his people. For now, war is not likely. At least, not without a large amount of casualties of Bachor.

TATRAN, BLACK PALM FOREST

  • The Corvix slowly continue to assimilate into Vokungard.

  • Rask's attempt to trade dye and woods is at first, met with some derision from Aaron, though he eventually agrees.

  • The human queen, who Karnak's servants have erased many mentions of, has a son named Casmir.

  • Karnak's own son, Talonmask, older than Casmir, attempts to claim that he should rule after Rask. The Corvix strongly agree, and Rask begins pondering solutions.

  • Karnak disapproves of an invasion, due to fear that Aaron may retaliate.

  • Verkan, meanwhile, seems to have caught Karnak's eye...

  • The dwarfern rebels arrive, and attempt to sell drawings, due to being unable to speak the language. However, the scouts eventually capture them, and the Corvix and Vokun only manage to save a handful.

TATRAN, THE CARCASS WASTES '

Skullgrad's scouting parties originally find simple trinkets, before eventually discovering the sundial, and a calendar system in a set of ruins.

  • The Ghoul King responds with his own strongly worded reply, and informs Rask that he might be willing to sell the Vokun citizens back.

  • Unbeknownst to Rask, many of the Vokun slaves are either dead, or food for the aberrations.

  • Aaron is slightly appalled, but his pockets are full.

TATRAN, DEATHRAIN SPIRES

  • Several of the dwarfern rebels, unfortunately, were captured by some scouts, and returned. The Royal Family begins another period of isolationism, noting the maps, but being concerned with building up their own capital.

  • The rebels are executed.

732 BCE: VIENRAN, THE HOMELANDS

  • Wind Walker agrees with Heron, and leads the first assault on Bachor's upgraded fortifications, leading to a disastrous failure. Many of his followers are dead, or desert back to the tribe of Heron, now 'jointly' ruled by Bacchus and Heron.

  • Wind Walker is captured and crippled, being returned to the tribe of Heron with a broken leg, and in chains. Upon his return, he calls for a second attempt at a war, and no one follows him. Heron decides to jail him for 'being a dangerous agitator', and makes a peace pact with the Hooded Queen.

  • The Drozz Tribes, now no longer a single nation, continue to fight amongst themselves. Sigma writes a final poem lamenting how Aaron's empire fell in the span of a few years, and flees with her Purple Coats, as Aaron's capitol city burns.

  • One of Aaron's older heirs attempts to pursue her 'but fails to find her.' He is then ambushed by a group of Shadowclaw assassins, and murdered.

  • Many of Aaron's heirs attempt to reclaim the interest of the people, talking about how they'll reform the Empire of Drozz. This gains few followers. Meanwhile, an unknown guard who shall be called the Sentinel, begins preaching about how might makes right. Aaron, he claims, was weak and unfit to rule.

  • A letter is sent to Skullgrad, with a request for Aaron, or his head, from several heirs. They each receive no response, but are too busy fighting each other to care.

TATRAN, BLACK PALM FOREST

  • Trade is down due to the Drozz splintering. Rich merchants suddenly begin to run out of money, and soon, the lower class grows.

  • Rask formally welcomes Verkan back, before abruptly sending him to the Vokun border, claiming that it's for the good of the Vokun that one as strong as him defends from the Drozz Tribes.

  • A few months later, Karnak is with Corvix child. Rask is again irritated, but continues to teach Casmir, along with Karnak.

  • Talonmask manages to prove an efficient governor, but continues to ask for fancy titles and more land, resulting in Rask telling him that if he wants land outside their borders, he'll have to conquer it.

  • Talonmask begins a large amount of land grabbing, with Verkan as his chief lieutenant, being sent to the border earlier that year.

TATRAN, THE CARCASS WASTES

  • Aaron begins to become slightly paranoid, hiding in Skullgrad's main palace, constructed for his few visits and the governor, and reads the letters from his heirs with fear. He begins pressing for fortifications, while sending letters to the Vokun, Bachor, and Heron.

  • The Ghoul King offers to reclaim the land, in exchange for more human slaves. Aaron considers this, before declining.

  • Luckily, the Ghoul King is occupied with more pressing matters, such as some upstart Corvix child, seen above, grabbing some of his land, and he leaves, in a huff.

  • Aaron turns to hedonism in his palace, while trying to figure out a possible solution to his problem. He sends a single love letter to Sigma, who replies by friend zoning him, and then a love letter to the Hooded Queen. She, however, sees that he is unfavorable. So, Aaron takes many concubines, and stays in the palace.

TATRAN, DEATHRAIN SPIRES

  • The orange bearded dwarf manages to storm the palace, before getting an axe to the leg, though he survives.

  • The royal family flees into the mountains, creating a government in exile.

  • Bread is shared, and so is the wealth, leading to plenty of economic problems later on.

730 BCE: VIENRAN, THE HOMELANDS

  • Bacchus receives messages from Dog God, who allows for some reforms.

  • Wind Walker begins to write his memoirs, only for Heron to apply 'rigorous editing' to them at the end of the year, making Wind Walker's hatred of other groups and Heron himself sound like something else.

  • Sigma and the Purple Coats meet several city elders, all of whom wish to secede from the tribes of Drozz, under her, and the Sentinel's leadership.

  • The Sentinel himself arrives, later in the year, and respects Sigma's intellectual prowess. He agrees to co-rule, though thinks he should be in control of military matters.

  • Thus, the budding nation of Numeralia is formed, unopposed due to other tribes being busy fighting each other, themselves, and building up weapons.

  • Sigma and the Sentinel marry, primarily for nation building reasons, though Sigma writes that she later grew to like him. The Sentinel's writings are vague on the matter.

  • Bachor begins to expand by crushing three of the fourteen Drozz tribes, only to suffer from victories, due to loss of peasants, loss of resources, and the like.

  • Bachor manages to keep control over the land, barely. Feudalism begins to take a larger hold in Bachor.

TATRAN, BLACK PALM FOREST

  • Vokungard begins building a navy, though the work is slow and inexperienced. Karnak, however, takes a big interest in the project, which grabs Rask's attention, adding more funds to the navy's construction.

  • Rask allows Talonmask to continue, believing that if Talon wins, he gets more land. If he loses, the border goes back to normal, due to their superior fortifications.

  • Talonmask, with help from Verkan, wins many, many victories abroad, and becomes a national hero.

  • Casmir begins to learn about economics from Karnak, while Rask continues to teach him about war strategy.

  • Rask receives a reply filled with terms and conditions, which initially puts him off. He states that he'll decide next year.

TATRAN, THE CARCASS WASTES

  • Aaron, now feeble, paranoid, and still unable to have children, continues to hide in the palace, convinced he has enemies everywhere, including invisible ones.

  • Several leaders of Skullgrad are removed due to Aaron's paranoia, and replaced with army officials.

  • The Ghoul King and Talonmask meet in a great battle, during which Talonmask's army manages to pummel the aberrations, and Verkan manages to ambush the Ghoul King.

  • The Ghoul King, now missing an eye and most of his attack force, retreats, giving Talonmask the victory.

  • The border shifts again, leaving Skullgrad right outside the fringes of the Vokun Border.

  • Thus begins the Vokun Empire.
