So, when I've written stories, whenever I wanted to mark a change of scene, I've used multiple Asterisks (*) to separate one part from another.

However, in my single fan fiction placed on Fanfiction.net, I found that it doesn't carry over when I copy and paste what I've written. I've also had issues with getting bold and indented print to show up as well.

So for those of you who have used it before, I was wondering how you get that stuff to show up on stories you've put up on Fanfiction.net.

I wonder if it's the kind of writing tool I'm using, or if something else is the issue, so any help would be useful for the next time I do it.

From my fairly limited experience with the site's technical side I can tell you that "piece of crap" is a fairly apt description for the thing handling formatting in uploaded text. The people I know who used it either started using another site or started combing through their text bit-by-bit and finding their own work-arounds for things that shouldn't be broken but somehow got because why not.

I recommend you do the same as them.

Also, since their formatting uses HTML tags, it is fairly obvious that you will have to do the same if you want to keep your emboldened and indented text as you had it.

I see. What kind of HTML tags are we talking about? Maybe if I know ahead of time, I can properly set them.

Here's a wiki how article on how to do it http://m.wikihow.com/Italicize-Text-in-HTML

Basically, you use tags that are inside of <> packages. b is for bold i is for italics And u is for underline

Usually in websites you don't need to add the body bracket, just use the bs and is and such

I see. I've actually done something similar on other forums I've been on.

They do it like this though: .... instead of <b>....</b>

So as long as I remember to use <..>, I should be able to get italics, bold, underline, etc then....

How necessary is Text Edit for this? It mentions it in the Wikihow, but I don't actually know if I have it anymore (using Mac by the way).

Edit: Never mind. I do have it. Huzzah. I can just copy and paste what I'm writing into Text edit after I add the proper mark ups.
