Well, believe it or not, I actually went and watched it.
And honestly, I don't think it's too bad. I mean, it's not excellent, but it was decent. It really felt like a sequel to the first movie, in terms of the tone and general storyline. (Unlike Cars 2.)
So, Mater's presence is largely downplayed compared to the first two movies, that's one thing I immediately noticed. The ending was kind of predictable once a certain thing happened in the story, though it wasn't necessarily terrible. I do feel like the development of one minor character ( Sterling) was a little sudden ( okay, okay, seems like a decent gu-wait a minute, we're supposed to hate him now?).
All in all, it was pretty good. I'd give it about a 7.5.

"Okay, yeah, I guess Ollie fits the goofy sidekick role, but being a princess doesn't mean I spontaneously sing about everything, 'kay?"...Wow, NOBODY is talking about this?! Guess nobody gives a damn, huh? Makes you wonder why they didn't just make Incredibles 2 instead...
Well, I mean, I think it's a good movie, but I wouldn't be able to think of much to talk about it.
I like the more mature tone of the movie, I like the fact that Lightning's struggle feels very real, and I like the way he ultimately chooses to resolve the problem. The new Cruz character is nice as well.
Really, the only flaw I can think of is that the main villain isn't really interesting, and the movie does not utilize the interesting contrast of him being essentially what Lightning used to be in the first movie. And also, the secondary characters from Radiator Springs are once again given almost no screentime; I think the police car in particular isn't even given any lines in this movie.
They ARE making Incredibles 2.
The movie was alright. Light years ahead of Cars 2 of course, and to be honest I feel like it's more of a direct sequel to the first Cars than whatever the hell Cars 2 was. You can just watch both Cars and Cars 3 and you'd never even notice that Cars 2 had happened. I felt like the opening sequence up to the crash that all the trailers centered around was a legitimately great sequence that perfectly demonstrated Lightning being edged out by newer talent in racing and his fall from stardom. I felt that the film was a bit of a tribute to Paul Newman, and a good one at that. I liked how they kinda showed more of Doc's past and how he had crashed in the first place, though I'm still left wondering what exactly led to Doc's death in the first place.
As for the bad...yeah, Radiator Springs is underplayed a lot (though I'm at least glad Mater is toned down significantly, I think he got even less lines in this movie than in the first one). Nathan Fillion's character randomly becoming a jackass at the end feels like they did it just so we didn't sympathize with him, and Jackson Storm needed more direct parallels with Lightning. Would've been interesting to see Storm do something that directly reminded Lightning of who he used to be before Radiator Springs changed his attitude.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? There was one scene that I found profoundly touching. You know the one.
3DS FC: 1719-3694-1541Which one? :P
The Protomen enhanced my life. When Lightning thinks that Doc Hudson was depressed forever after his retirement, but then Smoky explains mentoring Lightning was better for him than racing.
Speaking of which, how come Doc Hudson is gone, but his mentor is still alive? It must not have been a natural death...could Cars 4 be a murder mystery???
3DS FC: 1719-3694-1541It seems to that Smokey was meant to be around the same age (or maybe a bit older) than Doc. I don't think it's unreasonable that Smokey would still be around if that's the case.
"Okay, yeah, I guess Ollie fits the goofy sidekick role, but being a princess doesn't mean I spontaneously sing about everything, 'kay?"...Yeah that's a problem I had: if Smokey was Doc's mentor, he'd be even older than HIM, so wouldn't be be like.... a crumpy old miser who can barely speak clearly!??
He was his race director no? Lightning says "mentor" because that's how he pictures the relationship due to personal bias, but he might just have been a great coach around Doc's age.
Anyway, saw it yesterday, it was nice. Way better than 2, not as good as the rest of Pixar bar Monsters 2. I really liked Cruz.
Not much else to say really. I hope the franchise is over now, because that would be a nice way to close it - but since they are doing Toy Story 4, you never know.
It's out!
