Your vampires are kinda OP (not really your fault, there's a lot of accumulated vampire lore but not all needs be true in this setting.) Otherwise these are pretty well done characters.

Consider me intrigued. Would a thunderbird be an applicable monster for this RP?

I'm presuming they don't mean the 'Thunderbirds are go!' type...

Yes, that's obvious enough, Gob. That doesn't tell me what a thunderbird is.

Presumably they mean the one from the LoZ series.

Edit: After several discussions, there are at least two other Thunderbirds. Thanks, Gob and Sergey!

Heavily condensed version, here we go.

  • A thunderbird is a monster from Native American lore.
  • Just how big and how strong it varies from tribe to tribe, but it's always a very big and very strong bird of prey.
  • In most versions they are bringers of Lightning and each thunderclap is a beat of their wings
  • In some versions there is only one Thunderbird but in many stories there is many.
  • They range from being Ruler/s of the sky, to servants thereof, to powerful yet perfectly natural animals.
  • It's the X bird thing at the top of most totem poles.

As the post stewed with me I began to remember some of the most powerful portrayals of thunderbirds. I was coming back to change the post to be a bit more specific when I saw you had responded.

As long as it's not game-breakingly powerful, I see no reason to stop you from playing one.

My initial idea was an incredibly toned down version of mashup one, possibly a kind that somehow managed to "stunt" the transformation, or one with a mentality problem. Either way, I would definitely make it significantly smaller, if I actually go with it. My common is screaming at me for forcing myself to think of an alternative to thumbs.

EDIT: 1.Having mentioned a "mentality problem" I suddenly envisioned it scared of thunder, causing it to flap it's wings in panic. I hope the thought of a gargantuan bird, feathers now poofed and ruffled, scaring itself silly makes you laugh as it has me. 2. Please forget the "stunt the transformation" line was ever there. That would be a breach of the set rules of the continuity.

Sorry, that took so long. Many ideas were scrapped after various uninteresting shenanigans happened.

  • name: Jonathon Dough
  • species: kitsune
  • Skills:
    • Programmer - Before the transformation he was a programmer that made his living off phone apps, websites, and other such things. He hasn't done much with a computer since.
    • Illusionist - He can make others see, hear, taste, smell and feel (though not touch) things that aren't really there, either alone or as a group. This is what he practiced most since the transformation and what he sees as most useful if used cleverly.
    • Dream Jumper - He can manage to manifest himself in someone's dreams. He does, however, need to know where they are and be rather close to them. Psychics are very dangerous to him when he does this. Sufficiently clever ones can trap him there.
    • Shapeshifter - He can shapeshift easily into a variety of plants and inanimate objects. He can shapeshift into an animal or human if given a mirror and a co-operative model, or a poor approximation of one without. He avoids doing so for a variety of reasons, leaving him mostly unpracticed. Usually just uses this power to hide and to change his fur color.
  • Appearance: Normally he is a rather fluffy, white, male fox with nine tails. He will often change his fur color to red. Carries a pouch around with him to hold things in.
  • Personality: He is carefree and mischievous, though loyal to his friends. While he refuses to directly hurt people, he has no qualms about scaring and pranking them, whatever the "prank" may entail. Quite bitter towards humans, and easily angered towards one who assumes he must be female because of his new species.
  • Background:
    • Jonathon Dough was a relatively successful computer programmer. He lived alone and spent his days with his fair-weather friends, and watching TV. He was camera shy, often sullen, and negative enough that it was a surprise he had any friends at all.
    • After Johnathon transformed nobody could believe his sudden positivity. He claimed that he "no longer wanted to waste time being sad". Jonathon was alone when it happened and all anyone could get out of him, aside from a few bits here and there, was simply that he thought for certain he was dying and that he had most regretted his attitude. Since Jonathon had spent a long time being camera shy, he had no pictures to turn to as a reference point to turn back into himself. Since he couldn't turn back, his "friends" each left him for being a monster, making him quick to distance himself from humans. Inevitably, Jonathon decided that if he couldn't be himself, then he wouldn't be some fickle human at all. This little philosophy made his most marketable skill basically worthless, meaning he couldn't afford to stay in his own house and moved into the woods. Mostly spends his time making anyone he finds alone in the woods horribly confused, with occasional forays into town to cause mayhem or to look for a job. On nights when werewolves or other things he needs to hide from are active, Jonathon will usually either ask someone for shelter or find an empty house in the crypt.

Here, have a dragon character! If you're fine with him, I'd love to swap to him. Calling him Puff the Magic Dragon will not be tolerated xD

Name:

Rallos (Formerly Scott White)

Species:

Dragon (Frost)

Age:

19 (Physically is about 140, which is what the rough dragon equivalent would be.)

Skills:

Rallos used to be an avid gamer, and was generally good at FPS games and Strategy games like XCOM. That particular skill-set has vanished, however, since after his transformation he can’t actually handle a controller or keyboard; since then, he’s taken up acting since then, since having an actual dragon for fantasy movies is a real plus.

Strengths:

-Wings:

Self-explanatory, really. Rallos has wings, and can fly; he’s only an average flyer, though. Don’t expect him to pull off any flips in the air or anything.

-Size and Strength:

Like any dragon, Rallos is larger than a human, and is about the size of a small elephant, although his tail makes him somewhat longer. His wings also make him wider, but he generally keeps them tucked in so he can actually fit in the places that are big enough to house him.

-Breath Weapon:

Rallos is a Frost dragon, and his breath weapon is a stream of super-cold almost frozen air. Like all dragons, however, he can only use said breath weapon twice per resting.

-Natural Defenses:

Once again, like all dragons, Rallos has his natural claws and teeth along with his armor-like scales to fall back on.

Weaknesses:

-Unarmored Underbelly:

Rallos’s underbelly and the underside of his neck are much less heavily armored then the rest of his body, which is once again a trait shared by all dragons.

-Dislike for Combat:

While he is a dragon, and therefore suited for fighting, Rallos also used to be a regular teenager. He wasn’t partial to violence then, and just because he’s become a big lizard now hasn’t really swayed him. He tends to forget about his racial abilities, and is more likely to flee then fight if confronted by hunters. In other words, he’s a coward, although cornering him isn’t a good idea. Cornering any monster isn’t one either, come to think of it.

-Size:

Making sure that he doesn’t squash anyone is a full-time job, and one that Rallos has become somewhat good at- but it still requires all of his concentration. Because of that, he tends to forget about less-important things, and seems absent-minded to people that aren’t aware that he’s not trying to accidentally knock anything over. There’s also the fact that he can’t actually enter buildings not large enough to fit a dragon inside.

-Easily Recognizable:

For a couple of weeks after his transformation, people pointed and screamed at the sight of him. Now, people have generally gotten used to him, and he isn’t a super interesting sight in his neighborhood. And while people generally don’t scream and run when they see him anymore when he ventures out of his comfort zone in San Lorenzo, he gets a lot of stares and people talking about him behind his back. Not to mention a bunch of people asking to take pictures with him and their kids.

Personality:

Rallos is generally a very nice person, and will go out of his way to help others. On any given day, he can be found retrieving lost items, giving people the occasional sky ride, carrying things for people, and chatting pleasantly. He’s a bit naïve, but not stupid.

Appearance:

Light blue and white scales cover Rallos’s body, forming a armor like layer of scales over his soft skin. Small, evenly spaced spikes run down his back from the nape of his neck to the tip of his tail, and his eyes are a deep gold. Generally, a brown satchel is slung over his shoulder, which is what he uses to carry money and anything else he finds or purchases.

Background:

Scott was your average teenager before the M-Reactor incident. He was- thankfully- in public when he transformed, his body bulging and changing as he morphed into a huge, scaly monster. Considering the panic that everyone else was experiencing at the moment, no one really noticed him.

After the change, Scott retained most of his personality. He changed his name to Rallos for a couple of reasons- mainly because he was getting kind of annoyed at the surprise that people demonstrated when he told him his name. Apparently “Scott” wasn’t a dragon’s name.

Thanks to his rare physiology, he got into acting; although he isn’t famous- not by a long shot- Rallos makes his living playing roles that require a monster like him. Usually he plays a villain, but a few times he’s had the pleasure of playing a “good” dragon.

His presence in San Lorenzo is somewhat known, since he tends to be more iconic than a lot of other monsters. Thankfully, he doesn’t get as much press coverage as werewolves and vampires do. They really got the bad rep, in his opinion.

The Karnstein Coven

  • Name: Judith(, Countess) Karnstein. She's not officially a countess anymore (Austria ended its aristocracy in 1919), but she prefers to be addressed as such anyway ("Judith" is only for very good friends).
  • Species: Vampire
  • Skills:
    • Superhuman strength
    • Superhuman speed
    • Superhuman stamina
    • Superhuman agility
    • Superhuman durability
    • Superhuman reflexes
    • Superhumanly acute senses
    • Immortality
    • Fangs
    • Wallcrawling
      • As a vampire, Countess Karnstein is vulnerable to sunlight and holy symbols. She can be immobilized if stabbed in the heart with a wooden stake, and can only enter a private residence if invited in.
    • She is fluent in German, Latin, Italian, French, English, and Spanish.
  • Personality: Leader of the Karnstein coven, Judith is a cunning, pragmatic leader and a shallow hedonist with a self-centered system of morality. She's not evil, she just tends to judge actions based more on how they affect her than on any moral or ethical concerns. She cares deeply for her coven, although she tends to express it through a sort of benevolent paternalism most of her coven find rather annoying. Karnstein is a lifelong Catholic, but she's not particularly devout - being immortal and vulnerable to articles of faith will do that to you.
  • Appearance: An extremely pale, thin 21-year-old woman with long black hair and an aquiline nose. She wears a lot of black, and tends to favor pseudo-medieval flowing gowns.
  • Background:
    • Born in the Holy Roman Empire in 1100, Judith came from a noble family. At 14, she was married off to Count Karnstein, ruler of a small mountainous estate in modern-day Austria. Their marriage lasted two weeks before the count died of ergotism. Judith took control of her late husband's estate and quickly proved herself as a competent and cunning leader, despite her youth.
    • When Karnstein was twenty-one, a mysterious traveler stopped at Karnstein Castle. He told a tale of a thief killed on the cross alongside Jesus, who mocked the carpenter. In turn, the thief found himself turned into a monster, harmed by sunlight and symbols of faith (note: this is not supposed to be the canonical origin of vampires; the traveler may have been lying or delirious). Judith surmised that he was talking about himself, which he confirmed. He said he wanted to die, and Judith agreed she would do it - if he turned her into a creature like himself. He did so, and the now-vampiric Judith held up her end of the bargain.
    • Karnstein continued to rule her estate, faking her death and pretending to be her descendant every so often to avoid detection. Eventually, her citizenry noticed something was amiss, and in 1320, Karnstein fled to escape the resulting angry mob. She traveled to northern Italy, where she spent two decades as a nun and met the first member of her future coven, Matilda Girlani. Karnstein, smitten with her, told her everything. When the bubonic plague struck and Matilda grew ill, she begged to be made a vampire and Karnstein acquiesced. Due to growing suspicions about Karnstein's oddities and the nature of her relationship with Matilda, the two escaped the convent in 1349 and spent the rest of the fourteenth century (and much of the fifteenth century) traveling through Italy.
    • In 1559, with Italy newly under Habsburg control, the Countess returned to Karnstein Castle and reclaimed her estate, with Matilda in tow. She was open about her nature (at least to the people directly under her jurisdiction), and her constituents accepted her rule, out of a mixture of respect and fear. Countess Karnstein remained in power for several centuries.
    • During this time, her relationship with Matilda soured. Matilda was growing more and more fearful over what her new state of being meant for her soul, and in 1594, she fled Austria to try and reconcile herself with her faith.
    • Karnstein didn't take Matilda's flight well, and she nearly had a nervous breakdown over it. She was helped through it by Franziska Meier, a peasant girl who gradually ingratiated herself into the Countess' life and made herself invaluable to the vampire. In 1600, Franziska persuaded Karnstein to make her into a vampire as well.
    • In 1606, Karnstein received word of Matilda's location from Sofia Ungaritza, Matilda's companion: she was being held hostage by Friedrich Vordenburg, a would-be vampire hunter who had declared himself to be the Countess' nemesis. Afraid for Matilda's life, Karnstein agreed to meet with Vordenburg in a remote area, alone. Vordenburg ambushed her, and while he put up a good fight, the Countess and Sofia ultimately slew him and saved Matilda. They returned to Karnstein Castle together.
    • The seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were relatively uneventful for the Karnstein coven, though it did gain two new members, Anne du Pont de Vaubernier, an aristocrat who fled the French Revolution, and Julia Cortez, a Spanish dancer.
    • Early into the nineteenth century, a bored Countess Karnstein decided to travel Europe. In 1867, a storm destroyed her carriage when she was traveling through England. She may have died if not for the intervention of Daphne Lambert, the daughter of a retired army officer from England, who pulled her from the wreckage.
    • During her stay, Karnstein and Daphne grew quite close, and Daphne soon realized Karnstein wasn't telling her something. After confronting the Countess, she admitted everything, and a besotted Daphne begged Karnstein to make her a vampire so they could stay together. Karnstein, feeling guilty after finding out Daphne had a fiancé, instead left that night without saying goodbye.
    • She briefly stopped in Ireland, where she had a short meeting with a writer there and loosely inspired a gothic horror classic, before returning to Austria. In the summer of 1889, Karnstein received word of smallpox in the English countryside, and she instinctively returned to find Daphne, who had lost her family in the epidemic. Karnstein finally turned Daphne, and they returned to Austria.
    • The Karnstein coven spent World War I hiding out in Switzerland, after which they spent most of the 1920s vacationing in France. They also gained a new member, Lucie Dupont, a secretary for a banker who lost her post after an affair with her employer's wife. World War II was spent holed up in their castle, only leaving for the occasional hunt (with the exception of Sofia, who actively fought the Nazis).
    • With the Van Helsings growing more aggressive in the 2010s, the Karnstein coven was soon down to only four members (the Countess, Matilda, Sofia, and Daphne). Countess Karnstein is currently looking to relocate what's left of her coven to the Americas or Australia.

  • Name: Matilda Girlani
  • Species: Vampire
  • Skills:
    • Superhuman strength
    • Superhuman speed
    • Superhuman stamina
    • Superhuman agility
    • Superhuman durability
    • Superhuman reflexes
    • Superhumanly acute senses
    • Immortality
    • Fangs
    • Wallcrawling
      • As a vampire, Matilda is vulnerable to sunlight and holy symbols. She can be immobilized if stabbed in the heart with a wooden stake, and can only enter a private residence if invited in.
    • She is fluent in Italian, Latin, German, Romanian, French, and English.
  • Personality: Matilda is bookish, introverted, and as devout a Catholic as a vampire can be. Her reaction to her vampirism is mixed; while she appreciates that her immortality has allowed her to explore her interests in various scholarly and scientific fields, she can't shake her fears that by asking to be made a vampire, she turned her back on God. Her relationships with Judith and Sofia are complicated - while Matilda is in love with Judith, her personal issues have made their relationship complicated. After Matilda's leaving and her turning Sofia, Judith has accepted that their relationship is an open one and turned many other women over the years. Matilda has yet to admit how it makes her feel like she loves Judith more than Judith loves her.
Her relationship with Sofia is more equitable, though it's often marred by Sofia's frequent disappearances. For the most part, Matilda is mostly cool towards other vampires and most humans.
  • Appearance: A 27-year-old woman with an upturned nose, dark blonde hair, and a pleasant, if somewhat standoffish, demeanor. She dresses modestly, even plainly.
  • Background:
    • Matilda Girlani was born in Tuscany in 1322. As the illegitimate daughter of a minor noble, her marriage prospects were poor, so it was decided early on that she would be sent to a convent. Matilda didn't mind; as a quiet girl more interested in books than people, life as a Carmelite nun suited her.
    • She became close friends in particular with another nun - Judith, Countess Karnstein, who was smitten with Matilda and told her that she was an immortal who subsisted on blood. Matilda initially didn't believe her, but after growing ill from bubonic plague, a terrified Matilda begged to be made a vampire and Karnstein acquiesced.
    • Growing suspicions about Matilda and Karnstein's oddities and the exact nature of their relationship led to their fleeing the convent in 1349. They spent the rest of the fourteenth century (and much of the fifteenth century) traveling through Italy.
    • In 1559, with Italy newly under Habsburg control, Karnstein returned to Austria and reclaimed her estate with Matilda by her side. They were open about their nature to those directly under their jurisdiction and remained in power for several decades. Their relationship soured as Matilda grew more and more fearful over what her new state of being meant for her soul. In 1594, she fled Austria to try and reconcile herself with her faith.
    • She went on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, but found herself unable to travel far in the territory controlled by the Ottoman Empire, causing her to be stranded in Wallachia (in modern-day Romania). It was during this time that Matilda met Sofia Ungaritza, a Roma woman whose brother had been murdered and all his blood drained. After being convinced that Matilda was not the culprit, the two worked together to find the murderer, eventually discovering the vampire responsible, who was living in the woods and almost completely feral. Sofia begged Matilda to turn her into a vampire so they could slay the murderer together, and while Matilda was hesitant, she eventually acquiesced. Afterwards, they set up house together, largely out of convenience and some real affection.
    • Their life was disrupted in 1606 thanks to Friedrich Vordenburg, a would-be vampire hunter who wanted to make his name by slaying Countess Karnstein. Vordenburg held Matilda captive and sent Sofia to bring Karnstein to him. When Karnstein came, she and Sofia slew Vordenburg and freed Matilda. They returned to Austria together. Matilda took an instant dislike to Karnstein's new vampire, Franziska, but never admitted it out loud.
    • Over the next three centuries, Matilda threw herself into her studies. She became an accomplished theologian and linguist, as well as writing several famously controversial romance novels under a pseudonym.
    • With the Van Helsings growing more aggressive in the 2010s, the Karnstein coven was soon down to only four members (the Countess, Matilda, Sofia, and Daphne). They are currently looking to relocate what's left of the coven to the Americas or Australia.

  • Name: Sofia Ungaritza
  • Species: Vampire
  • Skills:
    • Superhuman strength
    • Superhuman speed
    • Superhuman stamina
    • Superhuman agility
    • Superhuman durability
    • Superhuman reflexes
    • Superhumanly acute senses
    • Immortality
    • Fangs
    • Wallcrawling
      • As a vampire, Sofia is vulnerable to sunlight and holy symbols. She can be immobilized if stabbed in the heart with a wooden stake, and can only enter a private residence if invited in.
    • She is fluent in Romanian, Vlax Romani, German, and French.
  • Personality: Sofia is calm, deadpan, and very fond of gallows humor. She views the terrible things that have happened to her as something to laugh at - though by no means does that mean she won't act. On the contrary, she has mild Chronic Hero Syndrome, and she's the most willing of the Karnstein coven to get involved in human affairs. As the only member of Karnstein's coven to not have been turned by Karnstein, she's generally more independent, and is more willing to criticize or snark at the Countess than the others are.
  • Appearance: An olive-skinned brunette with a Roman nose, a ready smile, and a preference for clothing that can be worn in the event that she needs to fight someone.
  • Background:
    • Sofia was born into slavery in Wallachia in 1569. A Romani from the Ungaritza caste, she and her family worked as blacksmiths for a wealthy boyar. In 1595, Sofia's brother Alexandru was found dead, with all of his blood drained from him. Sofia began investigating the circumstances of his death on her own, and it was because of this that she met Matilda Girlani, a vampire.
They returned to Austria together, and while Sofia didn't particularly like the Countess, she did appreciate the offer of protection and the chance to be near Matilda.
    • While the rest of the Karnstein coven hid out in the castle during the 1930s and 1940s, Sofia was active as a spy, sabotaging Nazi activity and smuggling Roma and others targeted by Nazis to safety.
    • With the Van Helsings growing more aggressive in the 2010s, the Karnstein coven was soon down to only four members (the Countess, Matilda, Sofia, and Daphne). They are currently looking to relocate what's left of the coven to the Americas or Australia.

    • She is fluent in English, French, and German.
  • Personality: Daphne is sweet, kindly, and guileless, but she has her fair share of issues. Namely, watching her children die in front of her has not been great for her psyche, and her coping mechanism of choice is to occasionally kidnap children so she can mother them, until the guilt gets to a point where she has to return them.
  • Appearance: A red-haired, rosy-cheeked, rotund 40-year-old woman with a button nose and a Cupid's bow mouth and a fondness for brightly-colored clothing with too much lace.
  • Background:
    • Born in 1849, Daphne Lambert was the daughter of a wealthy English widower retired from military service. She grew up wanting for nothing except company, spending most of her youth separated from people her age.
    • In 1867, Daphne witnessed a carriage destroyed in a storm. She found an unconscious woman in the wreckage and pulled her to safety, bringing her home to nurse her back to health. The woman, Judith Karnstein, stayed with Daphne and her father for several months. During her stay, Karnstein and Daphne grew quite close, and Daphne soon realized Karnstein wasn't telling her something. After confronting the Countess, she admitted everything, and a besotted Daphne begged Karnstein to make her a vampire so they could stay together. Karnstein, feeling guilty after finding out Daphne had a fiancé, instead left that night without saying goodbye.
    • Daphne married the son of one of her father's old war friends, moved to England, and had several children. Her life was average and happy, and if she seemed distant or disengaged from everyday life, well, she tried, at least. Then, in the summer of 1889, smallpox ravaged their town. Daphne's husband and three of her children died, and Daphne nearly went mad with grief. It was then that Karnstein returned and offered to turn Daphne, who accepted. The two of them joined the rest of the Karnstein coven in Austria that year.
    • With the Van Helsings growing more aggressive in the 2010s, the Karnstein coven was soon down to only four members (the Countess, Matilda, Sofia, and Daphne). They are currently looking to relocate what's left of the coven to the Americas or Australia.

Name: Gregory Holmstrom

Species: - Lamia

Skills: Superhuman strength: He’s about three times as strong as a normal human.

Flexibility: He can fold and bend himself in ways that a normal human can’t without any ill effects.

Durability: His scales allow him limited resistance to blunt impacts and bullets, and the ones on his hands work as excellent natural brass knuckles (and they mean he has no fingerprints, a fact his “supervisors” haven’t yet realized).

Poison Saliva: He doesn’t like to use it, but in an extremity his spit can be used as a weapon. It will cause dizziness, visual and auditory hallucinations, nausea, weakness, joint pain and eventual death within a week if ingested. If sprayed into the eyes it will produce temporary blindness, will be washed away with tears or a lot of water. He carries a supply of anti-venom on him just in case.

Limited Shapeshifting: Gregory can turn into either a long snake or a half-serpent form up to his waist. He keeps his intelligence in snake form and is more durable than a regular snake (he could survive a car running him over, albeit with severe bruises). In his half-snake form he can slither or swim at a high speed (about 20 mph). His pants will mystically disappear and reappear as will stuff in his pockets.

Hand-to-hand combat: Gregory is well trained in close combat and is slowly figuring out how to use his new gifts, though he tends to underestimate his own power and hit too hard. He’s also received training in how to use a pistol and shotgun as well as the usual police skills. Weakness: Gregory loses body heat more quickly than a normal human. While he can survive a winter’s day, hypothermia and frostbite are more of a danger for him than others. He usually keeps hot pads in his pockets and dresses more warmly than the day might require.

Personality: Gregory is still coming to terms with his new life and is unused to facing prejudice for being both a monster and a snakeman, since they’re not so cuddly. A fervent nationalist when he was human, Gregory has adopted monsters as his new people and is dedicated to helping them wherever possible. He’s cynical and jaded as a result of his government service, but he also sincerely believes that the government and the law can and should help monsters just like anyone else, though he’s prejudiced on the side of monsters.

Gregory is well aware that he’s being used as the local “model monster” for the Feds, but he accepts being their “tame freak” in return for some actual influence in order to help his people. He has a real interest in the past and secretly wants to be an old-time private eye like Sam Spade or Spenser. He also thinks he's funny.

Appearance: At first glance, he appears to be a pale, wiry man with black hair and sunglasses. However, upon closer examination the “hair” is a layer of black, red, and golden scales like that of a Gila monster on the back of his arms, back, legs, feet, hands and head. His eyes are slightly serpentine and his teeth have a serrated appearance. Gregory usually wears sunglasses, a fedora and what he considers to be sharp suits both to look stylish and keep warm, since he has a snake’s need for heat.He also habitually wears an anti-stab vest.

Background: Gregory was taught by his immigrant parents that a country is only as good as its government and people. Entering the military after college, he worked hard and was soon promoted before being sent home with a nonfatal injury, after which he applied for and accepted a new job as a postal inspector. While investigating the suspicious death of a mail carrier, Gregory proved that the dead man was involved in smuggling drugs under the nose of the San Lorenzo PD, something that did not win him any friends with the local PD. While he only managed to crack a small number of dealers, he gathered enough evidence to convince his superiors that there was more to find in the city.

Some years passed, and Gregory began settling into a life in San Lorenzo. He had a good apartment, a few friends outside the office, and even a possibly romance with a young local comedienne. Then everything went to hell when the M-Reactor Incident took place. Gregory had been transporting a possible suspect to the station for questioning when it took place, causing his car to swerve and crash. The woman in the back seat was killed instantly, and when the officers arrived to assist they found an incoherent half-man half-snake writhing in the street covered in her blood.

While the inquest absolved him of any direct wrongdoing, Gregory was placed on “indefinite paid leave” since they couldn’t just fire him (especially not without pissing off the union). A few days after his “enforced retirement” he was contacted by a friend in the FBI: would he be willing to work as an unofficial representative to the monster community, since he was one of the few federal employees with law enforcement experience who had transformed? He would be given the same arrest and lethal force powers as a cop and a steady paycheck. Gregory instantly accepted. He knew it was the best offer he was going to get.

Now, six months later, he’s working as a “private security consultant” as the head of Protean Investigations, Inc. While he still cashes checks, and looks into problems on behalf of Washington, Gregory has managed to earn a bit of money and goodwill by helping out, and in some cases employing local transformed folk. He does know about the Society for Transformed Rights and supports them, but he’s been in the government for too long to think they’ll do much good until they get some real money or influence.

An antagonist NPC.

  • Name: Robert Campbell.

  • Species: - Nuckelavee.

  • Skills: - Having been turned into a Nuckelavee, Robert has become quite the brute. He still possess some human intelligence, and is fast, durable, strong and cunning. Robert is barely capable of human speech, instead communicating in moans and wails. He can muster the occasional sentence, however.
    • Robert has all the abilities of a Nuckelevee. His breath spreads disease which will effect any living thing. He is very pragmatic, and will rip apart anything around him to use a projectile. His massive claws are razor sharp, and their extreme length gives him a deadly advantage in combat. He can also use the horse to attack, kicking and biting.

  • Personality: Irritable and destructive, Robert has changed completely since becoming a Nuckelavee. Where he was once a gentle and kind man, now, he is slowly becoming a deranged monster, and is learning to enjoy it. He hates any and all living things he comes across, and will make them suffer for his own amusement. If someone were to attack to protect their someone else, anyone, he will either render them immobile or outright ignore them, going after and brutally killing whoever they are trying to protect, to drive them to despair. Children are a favorite target of his, as he knows how much society values the lives of children. Killing such innocent as brutally as he can, knowing the trauma and shock it will cause, gives him immense pleasure. He stays away from fresh water sources, and seeks out salt water. Burning seaweed enrages him to no end.

  • Appearance: As a Nuckelavee, Robert has no skin, and his entire muscle mass is exposed. His eyes glow green, and the horse he is fused with has a single massive eye, which glows red like fire. The horse's mouth is large and gaping, emitting toxic fumes. He has massive claws hanging from his hands, and all his limbs have fin like appendages. His human head rolls back and forth, but when in combat, focuses on his prey. His veins are clearly yellow, and full of black blood.

  • Background: Little is known about Robert Campbell. It is believed he was once a rancher and skilled horse rider. However, after being changed, he has been going on a rampage, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. So far, he has been able to avoid capture, killing any who try, but leaving a single survivor, unable to stop him, to let guilt at their failure consume them. Droughts, famine, plague and the deaths of perhaps hundreds have followed him, and the path he is taking is heading right for San Lorenzo, and the ocean.
