I'm interested. Still trying to decide on a character, though.
Most likely either an undead healer or a gargoyle scout/courier.
either of those work my dude I'm not super picky on what races folks play or classes as long as they arent god-mod
"I'm not familiar with your military friend and his fondness of poultry"Definitely interested; I'll need a few days to finish rolling the character though. Basic concept is a pistol duelist chasing excitement/danger/cheap thrills.

"I'm not familiar with your military friend and his fondness of poultry"Since you called it Gaslamp Fantasy rather than Steampunk I take it magic is okay?
Trump delenda estMagic is definitely ok ... the world is run on magic similar to how steampunk is run on steam power
"I'm not familiar with your military friend and his fondness of poultry"Consider my hat tossed in for interest. Gaslamp fantasy <3.

"I'm not familiar with your military friend and his fondness of poultry"- Name: Zaror
- Age: He stopped counting. Old, certainly
- Race: Gargoyle
- Class: Rogue Cleric
- Main weapon: Fangs, claws, holy magic
- Appearance: Here◊
- Previous or current affiliation: Guardian of the Church of St. Artrek (Placeholder)
- Biography: Back when the Church of St. Artrek was built, Zaror was sculpted and animated in order to serve as one of its protectors from devils, demons and other evil spirits. But as time passed, attitudes changed, and those of the infernal persuasion became more and more accepted into society, eventually leaving his job obsolete. This, coupled with the fact, that his appearance wasn't exactly inviting to parishioners, eventually led to him being let go. Forced to seek alternative employment, Zaror tried his claws at a multitude of professions, none of which he was really suited for. Eventually he ended up becoming a mailman, tasked with delivering a package to the saloon from the first post, where his eyes fell on a peculiar telegram...
He certainly was able to fight and having listened to so many sermons, he did manage to learn some divine magic as well.
And it wasn't like he had anything left to lose, did he? - Other: Due to years of ingrained prejudice on the job, Zaror is rather speciecist towards races, that could be considered "unholy".

awesome once we get two more character sheets I'll post in the roleplay section!
"I'm not familiar with your military friend and his fondness of poultry"Le voila:
- Name: Shynre Val'Shenora
- Age: 30s
- Race: Shyreni Drow
- Class: Arcane Mechanic
- Main weapon: Shaera .308 Sunari◊ (.308 caliber lever-action clip-loading rifle), golem, arcane magic
- Appearance: See: my avatar as of this post◊, but with light grey eyes.
- Previous or current affiliation: Lieutenant, Shyreni Military, ret.
- Biography: Shynre was born to a noble family in a time of great upheaval. The underground Drow empire was fracturing. Shalune, one of the larger cities, and the provincial capital of Shyren, and the only province that actually extended to the surface, and one of a handful which even had access to the surface, had declared independence. They also declared spider-worship banned. The entire sociopolitical system was upended. After a number of years of unrest, the province settled down as a federal republic. The Federal Republic of Shyren. In addition to the new democratically-elected government, the old aristocracy still held a fair amount of power. Shynre was born to one of the aristocratic families. (The circle on her gun(see picture above) is the house's crest.) She was well-educated, and taught a wide variety of subjects, from how to use magic to dueling to science to literature.
Of course, the rest of the Drow didn't like Shyren after this. Many of Shyren's nobles had quite liked their position, and the ones who had argued against had been removed. Forcefully. Plus changing objects of worship... So, a number of the other provinces formed an alliance, and moved to kick Shyren's arse. That... didn't go so well for them. You see, Shyren had an advantage: Due to exposure to the ideas of the surface, it had the best and the brightest technologists, scientists, and engineers in the empire. They had a natural advantage, too: The cave system that was most of the province had exactly one entrance to the rest of the Empire.
While the Empire had a rather powerful military, it was using outdated equipment, outdated tactics. The Shyreni military had cutting-edge modern weapons, the latest in tactics from the surface, and their signature unit: Technomagical golems. No simple, old, animate piles of rocks, these were veritable magically-powered combat robots. Somewhat intelligent, if not sentient, their handlers often ascribed personalities to them. Whether they actually are intelligent enough to have personalities is a matter of much debate amongst scientists and engineers.
Shynre, meanwhile, had joined the military as an Arcane Engineer and an officer through the new officer's training school. They were responsible for producing and maintaining the advanced weaponry of the Shyreni military. Capable of using “pure” magic and technology hand-in-hand, they were also a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. She was shipped off to the front lines and put in command of a squadron of golems shortly before the Alliance gave up trying to beat the Shyreni, only actually seeing one engagement, which the Shyreni military won handedly.
Shynre eventually found herself out of a job as the military downsized. Being rich, she didn't really need a job. So, she took to adventuring on the surface. As a severance package, the military let her take one of the smaller golems. Eventually, she found her way to an inn in Darchiester, and noted a telegram on the wall. Hey, not like she had anything better to do. - Other: The primary religions in Shyren are now the worship of a goddess often associated with the stars from a very long time ago in Drow history, non-religious, and smatterings of other surface faiths.
Along the same line, should it become relevant, I have a hell of a lot more detail on the actual governmental structure of the FRS. I don't expect it to.
For example, Parliament is a tricameral system, one chamber of which consists of popularly-elected delegates based on voting districts, one chamber of which is drawn from the a) aristocracy, and b) leaders in various fields, whether it be art, science, philosophy, etc., and one chamber drawn from delegates of the various semi-autonomous provincial governments (it is a federal republic, after all). The Chancellor is decided by a popular vote, and is the de facto head of government, fulfilling responsibilities similar to that of the US president (i.e. taking executive action, executive powers of government, being the foreign face of the country, etc.), and has a council of advisers (title varies, generally Minister of (x) or Councillor for (x). The main exception being the Vizier of War (roughly equivalent to the Joint Chiefs position in the US). Why this is is a long and complicated topic related to the Drow language and historical matters.), chaired by the Council President, who acts similarly to the US Vice president, i.e. mainly symbolic and as a backup for the Chancellor should they have a heart attack or something. The Council President is appointed by the Chancellor, subject to approval of two of the three legislatorial bodies, each requiring a simple majority, and a majority vote of the Council. If the council votes against, the vote can return to the Legislature and, should it pass with a 2/3rds majority in each chambre, will go through.
Additionally, any serving member of either the Syrelli (The judicial branch), the legislature, and any member of the Council and the Chancellor have the right to append the Val- prefix, which indicates nobility.
The current Chancellor is Lyleth Val'Sharose and... Yeah, I said I wouldn't talk about it unless it becomes relevant and now look what I've done... I guess if anyone is interested, I have a hell of a lot more notes.
EDIT: More personal backstory.

All are significantly abnormal in a normal world... All are significantly normal in an abnormal world.Okays my entry:
- Name: Qualnaar Lighthand
- Age: 175, (Elven equivalent of late 20s)
- Race: Elf
- Class: Rogue
- Main Weapon: Lots and lots of knives of various sizes and utilities, some of them contained in places you wouldn't expect to be possible without considerable discomfort.
- Appearance: 6', lean build, crewcut golden hair, silver eyes, favors dark clothing of various styles, whatever allows him to blend in.
- Previous or current affiliation: Information and property acquisition
- Background: Still a work in progress but suffice to say that not all elves grow up in sylvan glades or crystal towers. Some grow up in urban ghettos.
So what is an Arcane Mechanic? Would I be correct in guessing a cross between the above listed Alchemist and Tinkerer Classes? Or maybe like a Spark from Girl Genius?

"I'm not familiar with your military friend and his fondness of poultry"
