Another Gematsu article, explaining more about the stuff just revealed through Famitsu.
And I just launched a Musou Stars trope page. Feel free to adjust anything that doesn't quite work.
I did my deal with the survey. I voted for Bo Jackson, Suezo and Dana. I was gonna vote for Gitaroo Man, but I'm sure everyone and their pets will vote for him.

Gavan, Let's get jiggy!I wish I could fill in the form, but the Japanese texts will prove to be troublesome.
"Deeper Interpretations" probably means that they want to spend more effort on differentiating and balancing the characters than they'd get to if they had 70 characters. We'll probably see characters with unique subsystems and unusual moves in addition to more conventional sword slingers.
I for one hope that the alchemists have a bit of an item use system going on instead of DW combos because none of them actually do combos of any kind. The only physical attack they have is just one bop over the head with a staff. They don't even have any magic to use. They just have items they have made in the shop to nuke the battlefield.
Craft X item for them with WO's usual affix system and equip and use em with a cooldown. Maybe with an actual active combat menu.
That could be a lot of fun and different.

The format shown on the Gematsu article is how it's all laid out. You'll most likely have to input it in Japanese, but the character section can be easily filled by doing a little Google work and the mechanic section can most likely be skipped. Hardest part then is inputting a name.
One of the interesting points I've heard for DW 8 was a variation of Power Creep: the newer characters were designed to have more varied mechanics in their movesets, making the older characters feel generic and samey in comparison. Between the jump to the PS 4 and the restricted character roster, Koei has the opportunity to do some rebuilding, and thus create a more diverse roster gameplay-wise.
To transition to , one video I saw a couple days back suggested Sophie's staff attacks in the teaser looked a bit on the weak side, that it didn't look like she was doing a lot of damage until she started dropping bombs. And that would be really interesting, if they go for a Squishy Wizard approach with her. Koei's also been experimenting with Trap Master mechanics for a while, which makes Millennia's inclusion a lot easier to grasp.
Voted for Bo Jackson and Rygar.
Bo knows.
What I kind of dislike with the lesser version of this is that at this point, the roster will be decided on Popularity Power, something that might damage integrity, and IMO, what Sengoku Basara kept doing with impunity and becoming a rather sore point to me, as well as certain happenings in another game.
With this, the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors representatives becomes too predictable, we'd just see whoever tops the popularity list. Zhao Yun and Yukimura are predictable, yes. But you can bet that the rest would be based on whoever is the most popular... Lu Bu and Mitsunari are the silhouettes, the rest would be whoever is more popular. For someone who actually likes those who score less in popularity polls (like the 3 Peach Garden bros, or the Tokugawa)... this is NOT going to bode well.
What Warriors Orochi gave us, while loads and loads of characters are involved, and gameplay-wise it might look samey to some, it's fair to all parties involved.
Let me start by noting that at this point in the timeline the roster's most likely already firmly established. At this point, this poll will most likely be what Koei references in regards for DLC.
Even then, the whole point of this game is to celebrate Koei Tecmo's legacy with its fans. They're going to do that with a small roster of "all-stars", and it feels pretty obvious that a good number of said stars were going to be fan favorites, aka those on the top of the popularity charts. Popularity Power was always going to be a component, especially for a company as cognizant of its fanbase's desires as Koei.
While I agree on this being a celebration for Koei, the cynic in me believes that it's an attempt to cut back costs and attract enough fans to make a profit by purely banking on the characters' popularity, so they don't have to make WO4. I'm more suspicious that the non-Warriors characters are mostly going to be given movesets cloned from the existing ones with maybe one or two gimmicks related to their parent games, and the quality of the recent "licensed" Warriors spin-offs didn't do much to instil confidence in Koei for me either.
Plachta confirmed, as well as a new mechanic:
Here are a few Hero Skills:
- Sophie: "Alchemy" - Changes the items that have fallen on the battlefield into different items.
- Plachta: "Growless" - Allies within range will not be affected by weakening skills.
- Zhao Yun: "Storm Rush" - Zhao Yun pursues the enemies blown back by the player.

So a whole bunch of stuff has been revealing itself the past month, but at the very least I'll post the latest bit here.
Not only do we finally have an official look at Opoona, but the silhouette is widely believed to be Marie Rose.

my small round son is finally here...
Apparently this game quietly released a few days ago on the PS 4 in English as Warriors All-Stars. If it weren't for some of the people I'm subscribed to playing it on Youtube, I wouldn't have realized that it was even out now. I mean, the last thing I saw were ads for characters in the Japanese version, and that was back in the summer.
Anyways, just thought to let people know.

Not so quiet. KT Europe/America put out several trailers and the usual news sites for niche gaming covered them all.
-shrug- I never saw anything until a few days ago when one of the Youtubers I follow uploading a gameplay video, and even then I thought it was a preview of a soon-to-be-released localization.
Of course, after I posted that last one, I realized I hadn't subbed to KT's english channels, just the Japanese one, but I tend to see their vids in my Recommendations anyway so it just surprised me.
Either way, the game's another one to add to the growing list of games I want to get this Fall and Winter (a few of them being musou games at that).

The initial Western hype died down IIRC when Koei-Tecmo made it abundantly clear they were focusing on Japanese favored characters first. Look, the Bo Jackson thing was a joke (even if it would be awesome and Bo has been in a bunch of Tecmo Bowl themed commercials recently) but Japanese-exclusive smartphone and pachislot games were a big focus, and that's alien to US audiences.
Eh? Its a Japanese company and all their active I Ps are Japanese what the hell did you expect?
You know how certain characters are more popular with different audiences, while most Westerners have never even seen the Pachislot and smartphone games the majority of the cast are from?
That's the issue. At least William from Nioh is in it.
The only mobile game is Nobunyaga and the appeal of a Samurai Warlord cat kicking ass stands for itself....
As for Rio she has had a 12-Episode Anime that made it on crunchyroll and appeared in Dead Or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball on the PSP. She is basically becoming Tecmo Koei's mascot.
Everything else has been released in the west, although only in Manga and Anime form for Haruka cause Otome Game don't get published in the west.

Latter statement about Otome Games isn't true anymore - they're really gaining in popularity.
But yeah. 's reference to mobile and pachislot as the "majority" of the cast just tells me that he doesn't play Koei Tecmo games. I just play their stuff on console/PC and there's only been like 1 or 2 that I had to check the origin for. Everyone else, I'd either already played their origin game, or I played a later entry in their series for the older characters.

Was waffling on whether to buy this or not, and then I learned that Koei Tecmo included representatives from Nights of Azure .
No idea who thought that was a good idea sales-wise, but screw it, I'm buying this to show support for their obscure Dark Fantasy Yuri RPG

Pretty sure that was just so they'd have more than just Atelier reps from Gust in the game. Gust has quickly become one of the major subdivisions within KT.
Yeah, another reason I would have preferred Orochi 4. Someone on a different forum suggested that this might be a way of doing another crossover game now while waiting until DW 9 before doing another Orochi game.
Wow, what an album
