Sequel Escalation is the subtrope of the other one. Serial Escalation can happen in any timing scope (like, over the course of one episode or movie).

They are closely related to the point most examples cross over. Generally speaking, Sequel Escalation is when the following story gets bigger and bigger with an increase in scale and scope, 1v1 action scenes are overshadowed by 2v5 action scenes. Serial Escalation is when the ongoing narrative tries topping itself in complexity and design, a basic Batman Gambit turns into a Gambit Roulette.

Yep, yet another trope comparison thread. I'm beginning it because not only I am confused as to what's the difference between them, but also because a lot of entries I see are (seemingly) mistaken one for the other.
