According to their descriptions and/or laconic definitions:

I do not see any appreciable difference in the definitions. What exactly sets these two tropes apart?

Looks like Art Major Biology is a subtrope.

The work contains things that are biologically impossible - often skirting the Critical Research Failure level from the era the work was created in, except the biologically impossible things are needed for the premise of the work, and the work is better for having them.

Artistic License is a catch-all for inaccuracy. Art Major is when the inaccuracies are made deliberately for the sake of telling a better story.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!

Except that's not how the tropes appear to be defined, as I pointed out in the OP. On the other hand, the extreme briefness of Artistic License – Biology's "description" is and the long list of subtropes under it make it look like it's the More than Meets the Eye to Art Major Biology's Hidden Depths, i.e. Artistic License – Biology as written is an index for the tropes that are explicitly forms of Art Major Biology.

... Now that I think about it, Artistic License – Biology used to be known as You Fail Biology Forever, which IIRC means that the original definition was about what is assumed to be genuine ignorance of real-life biology rather than deliberately sidelining it for story purposes. I guess we forgot about Art Major Biology in the course of the mass-renaming of "You Fail X Forever" articles.

EDIT: Oh, someone already made a thread for this a few months ago, just witt the trope titles lacking spaces. And there's even a TRS about the same issue that actually reached a consensus on merging the tropes under ALB, but appears to have been locked due to unexpected inactivity.

Bumping since it appears the TRS consensus (linked above) has never been acted upon. Does this indicate that said consensus is outdated (i.e. there is in fact sufficient distinction to keep the tropes separate), or has the issue been simply forgotten?

I'd say it was forgotten and that if you want to take the steps to merge the trope, you should.

Bumping since this high-priority issue (where Art Major Biology needs to be merged into Artistic License – Biology) remains unresolved. Should I raise this issue at Ask The Tropers?

Why? Ask The Tropers is not the place for discussing large trope fixes.
