Closest thing to a definition of the trope is "turtles are usually portrayed as not bad." Which means it's "turtles exist." Hell, the quote is amazingly vague. There's a kernel of a trope here, in that turtles tend to be slow, old, and wise, which are all mentioned in the description... but not really as the definition.
So... wick check. Since the description is so vague I'm only going to cite misuse if the turtle is said to be evil. Otherwise I'm just going to try to list what the context is.
- https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Wrestling/AAA: ZCE.
- A Complete Waste of Time: "Turtles exist as a mount."
- Adventure Quest Worlds: Potholed to Genbu of the Four Gods.
- Adventure Quest Worlds Ancient Evils: "Character kind of looks like a turtle"
- Adventure Time: Minor: "A turtle who's a princess and a head librarian"
- Aesop's Fables: ZCE
- A Growing Affection: ZCE
- Alien Soldier: Potholed into the character's name, but seems to be a turtle-themed enemy. Thus misuse.
- A Little Snow Fairy Sugar: ZCE, probably? Someone want to take a look. It's... odd.
- American McGee's Alice: Mentions what the turtle does for the hero.
- Animal Crossing: An interesting literal case, this is about a tortoise who has political power. Yet despite the name, "power" is never mentioned anywhere in the trope.
- Animal Games: A turtle gets bronze in something.
- Animal Motifs: Bizarrely, the only pothole to this trope is "there's a piece of Brazilian currency with a turtle on it."
So... yeah. Rooting out misuse is hard because mentioning turtles in a vaguely positive light seems to be correct use.

Due to the amount of threads currently in TRS, it's best if we leave it here; which is why this project thread was created in the first place.
While Turtle Power may need looking into, that's an insufficient number of wicks. Try aiming for 50 or the square root of the total wicks, whichever is higher. Also, be sure to spread it out instead of focusing on the top of the list.
Anyways, we have an animal trope that is also Garnishing the Story that we may need to look at as well: Everythings Better With Penguins
Edit: Wick check updated to look at cases of cuteness, as it may be the trope's intention. The update may not be complete.

Not all wicks are confirmed to be for cuteness.
Looking at that, should we limit the examples to "for cuteness" entries/mascots and rename, or should the whole thing be fed to the seals?

she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportFrom the page itself and examples on equivalents like Everythings Better With Dinosaurs, the trope seems to describe not just penguins being adorable, but when they're added into a work with no actual reason besides Garnishing the Story. So, keeping the trope seems ideal, although a lot of examples will have to go.
Pardon the Early-Installment Weirdness, everyone. Seeing how backlogged TRS is right now, it's time to bring this back and make it a bit more polished and proper for a cleanup thread.
So, here's the deal. I'll start a sandbox that will serve as a queue for animal-based tropes that need help.
If you want to suggest a trope, add it to the sandbox. If you can provide a wick check, do that as long as it's in a separate sandbox page or a post.
I'll start the sandbox here and edit the opening post.
To start off I copied off what tropes were in the opening post, and will skim through Tropes Needing TRS.

she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportPerhaps it'll be best if I retire this thread. Not only did it not take off, the scope of problem tropes was smaller than other dedicated efforts, on second glance.
Time to euthanize the thread.

This was started in response to this Trope Repair Shop thread.
It has come to our attention that we have tropes based on animals. Several of these have been presented to the TRS since they exist solely to catalogue animal appearances. This is a thread dedicated to clean up animal-related tropes.
Be sure to post any problematic animal tropes here. If you wish to report a misused trope, please include a wick check in your post.
A sandbox will be provided to keep track. Be sure to place any tropes that need help in here.
