Delta - Group Two / The Skirmish

Seeing as standing still would lead to them all getting killed, Delta turned to face the direction that they had all been discussing charging off in, in order to avoid the incoming group. "Hurry, avoid army," she grumbled out.

Then she took off running in said direction.

Mitsuhide — group 3

Mitsuhide didn’t make it far past the bank’s entrance when the skirmish broke out with Icarax’s sword-throw. Shifting his grip on his sword, Mitsuhide charged; he covered the small distance with a quick shuffle, drew his sword — its blade covered in crackling lightning — and struck at the dinosaur’s side, all in one single, fluid motion.

Lady (Group 2)-On the move

Lady, seeing Delta charge forward, took out one of her SMGs and a handgun.

"Time to go. Come on, move it people!"

Without another word, Lady took off running right behind Delta.

Carmilla & Sypha, Team 2

When Delta ran off and then Lady ran off, Carmilla rolled her eyes and looked over to the other ones.

"Time to go through with this thing," Carmilla told the others and looked towards Sypha before nodding. Then both Carmilla and Sypha began following after Delta and Lady, trying to keep up with the two as they tried to go around the two armies.

Elesis (The Skirmish of Victory Street) - Action!

Elesis watched the departing shapes of Delta (with the children in tow on her shoulders), Lady, Sypha and Carmilla with the same blank expression she seemed to have most of the time. However, a small frown slowly appeared on her face as the dreadful feeling that something was about to go horribly wrong settled within her.

She paused to look at her left hand for a few moments. She looked at the patterns of the glove, and at the dark energy rising from her open palm. She watched the almost imperceptible droplets of blood rise, and saw how everything dissipated in thin air when she clenched her fist.

She was as ready as she could be. So without any further delays, she took off after the rest, keeping her body low and her claymore just high enough to prevent it from hitting the ground.

We don't really have a choice but to take it head on. Standing around will only cause disaster, came the voice of Conan's datapad as he wrote this.

He held tightly to Delta, wondering if he was ever going to be any use to this team.

No, he couldn't think that way.

He just had to keep trying.

Otherwise, we'll just have one big mess.

Group 2

"Right, it's go time." The ninja stated with a quiet sort of readiness once she finally unbent her back, looking at all those people leaving before glancing back to where Armani was with a slightly guilty look. "Sorry, I gotta get going to help them out. Knowing full well what his reaction was going to be if she did this, the shinobi continued her course of action though and began to dash towards the group with a speed that monkeys and gazelles would have positively envied, moving in short controlled bounding steps that launched her at least ten feet with every step forward. Scanning about with her eyes, the girl armed with kunai got ready just in case people got wind of the group. In times of war, no mercy could be given and thus she had to be ready to act in a manner that would continue to keep the group's existence a secret. After all, dead men told no tales.

Group 3

Welp, there went secrecy it seemed. Seeing as the golems were getting ready to launch what was presumably a high intensity projectile attack jutsu from their tube-like construct, the in disguise Naruko clone poofed back into existence. Good thing the dummies were so slow it seemed, they were nothing like the ninja puppets she knew. In one swift motion that began with her returning back to regular form, the clone began a mad back jump while simultaneously trying to loop several threads of sharp and sturdy ninja wire about as much of the armors' legs before getting ready to yank with ninja strength and strong momentum. Considering she regularly had practice with her core body movements by fishing hundreds and thousands of herself in the air as a sort of human whip, she knew exactly how to drag and throw objects strongly in a certain direction.

Armani, group 2

"Right, it's go time", Naruko said as everyone took off. Guess she was finally getting back to her old self; no more bowing shenanigans then. Armani couldn't be more glad about THAT.

He glanced down the group, which were all taking off. A satisfactory smile lit up his face "Well, at least we're not a confused mess this time."

He grinned, and flicked his face back over to Naruko. Then his grin melted into a blank look of confusion; why did she look so guilty? "I don't have a penny, what's on your thoughts?"

"Sorry, I gotta get going to help them out."

Then she took off too.

Armani stared blankly after. "Huh?"

He stood there for several seconds as the others sped ahead, just trying to figure out what she had meant.

"...Girls never stop being confusing." He shrugged and took off after them, doing his best to keep an eye out.

Ami - Team 2

Ami took off with everyone else - a bit more literally than the rest, though. The feathery wings granted by her spell had still been folded against her back, and with a thought, they unfolded, and she took flight. Not too high, of course. Just a couple feet up (which, given her rather short stature of 4'11", actually meant she was still lower down than Delta), so that, if she needed, she could get into the air easier and faster.

Ami's wings beat (more out of habit and for show than anything, since it was her magic that did the flying), and she easily kept pace with the rest of the group.

Group 1 - The Checkpoint

"Ugh, fine." The heat shimmer that was Tucker said, before walking out into the middle of the street. And quite visibly did not get shot.

There was a first time for everything.

The Shizuka plan worked perfectly. The Young Joestar managed to shepherd the entire group across the two streets they need to cross, while avoiding enemy fire entirely. All the while, Will urged them to hurry: if they took any longer, sunset would begin and there would be a shift change. And the second group did have infrared optics.

However, they managed to leave the checkpoint behind well before sunset.

Group 1 - The Beasts

The group continued on their way, heeding Will's directions. Soon enough, the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the street they walked along. They didn't encounter anything after the checkpoints, not a patrol, not a minefield, not even the sounds of battle. Only rubble and wrecked vehicles laying in their paths, the occasional corpses and bones having disappeared.

In fact, apart from the low sounds of battle in the far-off distance, one could almost say-

"It's quiet. Too quiet."

"Nah, this is just the right amount of quiet! No gunfire, no explosions, no people trying to kill us-"

A nearby howl filled the air, vaguely lupine in nature. The long screech would bring a shudder up from the primordial level of most of their beings, as if instinct was screaming the word "predator" at them.

"Hunting pack." Will said gravely, over their speakers. "Get into defensive positions, there's no way to sneak around these things."

The abundance of rubble and destroyed vehicles would make for good cover, but it also broke up their lines of sight. The howl was now coming from dozens of places, all around the group, and was joined by a few bear growls. They were surrounded, but couldn't see their enemy yet.
Group 2 - The Skirmish - Secret Weapon

Group 2 would find no resistance as they made their way around the giant battle. All eyes were on the melee in the centre, both sides committing their forces against the other's without regard for flanking or envelopment.

It was quite clear that all the smart commanders in this war were dead.

As they made their way around, the job was made easier for them. Both sides comitted their cavalry at the same time, horse and rider trampling their own footsoldiers in order to smash into the enemy lines. Similarly, the archers began to mass volleys into the mountain of men, horse and bodies.

All the while, the equilibrium maintained. Someone had to bring something in to gain the advantage.

Group 2 made it halfway across Victory Avenue before the Barbarosians unleashed their backup. There was no sign of it until a few second before it appeared. It sounded like a single horse and rider was charging down one of the side streets toward the avenue, if a single horse could shake the ground with every step. The Alternates would have a few seconds to prepare for whatever was oncoming.

Exactly what was oncoming made itself known as it skidded around the corner and onto Victory Avenue itself, stopping in front of the Alternates.

It was a tank, roughly enough. A heavily armoured and angled rectangle, with a smaller turret sat atop it. Protruding from the turret was a huge cannon in the middle, a pair of autocannons on each side, and a minigun sat atop it. What differed it from other tanks were the squat, thick legs that raised it two meters off the ground, instead of the usual tracks.

It processed the group for a moment before the minigun turned towards them, and began spooling up.
Group 3 - The Patrol

Mitsuhide's slash didn't manage to pierce the beast's thick, scaly hide. The electricty, however, did, and cause the Brachiosaurus to raise it's head and let out a scream of pain. At the same time, it raised the leg that Mitsuhide struck at, and brought it down once more, this time aiming to squash the samurai.

However, thanks to Mitsuhide's attack, Icarax's missed. His sword went flying past the creature's moving head, and upwards into the sky. He might want to go retrieve that.

Xigbar had a bit more luck. His arrow sunk into the head of the Knight aiming at Tenshi with a clang, and his gravity spell lifted the poor guy into the air. In retaliation, despite some spinning caused by the transferred momentum of the arrow, the Knight aimed at the Freeshooter, and began spraying plasma shots at him.

Naruko would find much the same. Her wire entangled the Knight nearest to her's feet, and he yank brought it solidly crashing to the ground. But it opened up with it's plasma rifle towards her from it's position on it's back.

Meanwhile, one of the enterprising wizards on the Brachiosaurus' back fired a bolt of lighting at the bank building, and with a great crash of light and sound, vaporized the roof, the facade, and all the floors above the ground floor. Although this gave everyone in the bank a great view of the Brachiosaurus and it's wizard-bearing platform, it also gave the wizards and their knights a great view of the bank counter many in the group were using for cover. The remaining eight knights took the opportunity to fire upon the bank counter, and also Icarax and Mistuhide, who stood between them and it.

If anyone was paying attention to the wizards on the platform, they would see one of them collapse from exhaustion. Obviously vaporizing most of a building took a lot out of them.

And since Conan couldn't honestly do much else, he wrote instead as he held fast and tight to Delta with one of his arms, writing with the other. The datapad was quick to speak for him, louder than previously as he turned the speaker up. Geez, he was so glad Tali had made him this thing.

Guys we're about to be under fire! I may be an idiot with amnesia but I know what that is! Er...sort of...point is, we're about to be under fire!

Sure giant robot tanks weren't one of his memories, but guns were pretty easy to identify and he was pretty sure that was one getting ready to shoot them all.

Walker - Team 3

Given the bank suddenly got destroyed, or close enough, Saint Walker shot into action. He wasn't generally a combatant but he was entirely capable. He created a construct shield in front of him to protect from the attack and shot into the sky above the rest of the battle. First he created a large net and caught Icarax's sword. He took a brief look at the sword before throwing it back at the ground near Icarax.

"I think you dropped this, friend."

He then looped round and turned the net back into a shield and held it below him as he hovered over the brachiosaurus. Hopefully it would protect him from the brunt of their force, and any stray attacks by allies, so he charged up an energy blast and fired at another of the wizards over the edge of the shield.

Lady (Team 2)-Tank!

Lady's frantic run came to a halt as the tank suddenly approached them. With practiced quickness, Lady yanked her rocket launcher off of her back and swiftly aimed it.

"Get down!"

Leaving her allies to strike at other locations, Lady aimed her rocket directly at the threatening minigun that was about to fire and pulled the trigger, sending a missile hurtling directly for it to blow it to pieces.

Team 3 - Library

Rock covered himself and Fuuka when the top part of the building became vaporized. With most of the building gone he was able to see first hand the dinosaur in which the wizards were riding upon and the Knights were leading. The moment of awe passed quickly, as the knights were now firing upon everyone. He charged up his Mega Buster.

"Everyone, try to attack the wizards first," Rock called. He them went over the counter and fired a massive three foot diameter ball of concussive plasma at the knights before following up with several more lemon sized shots.

Mitsuhide — group 3 — patrol

Mitsuhide rolled out of the incoming foot with as much grace a man carrying a 70-centimetre sword could, coming up with his sword at the ready again. He took a step back and prepared to attack the Brachiosaurus again, but then the entire bank was basically vaporised and the animated armours started firing at him, so the Samurai started running around the dinosaur, seeking to both put it between him and the suits of armour and find a way to scale it and reach the wizards perched on top of it.

Team 2 - Delta

"GRAAAAAAAAAARGH!" Delta roared when the walking tank appeared. This thing sure as hell didn't look like one of the models from the Second Great War, but it was close enough for her to recognize cannons and guns when she saw it, and she knew that said guns were going to be big trouble.

She lifted up her left gauntlet, pointing it at one of the various burned-out car wrecks littering the streets. With a veritable heave, she pulled out the dense engine block with her telekinesis plasmid. Then with another motion of her wrist, she flung it with tremendous force at the barrel of the cannon, hoping that it would hit and bend the weapon's metal enough to render it inoperable.

Not that she was sticking around to find out at the moment. She'd be willing to be more mobile and exposed if she were by herself, but she wouldn't be willing to take the same risk with her passenger(s). So instead, she hauled ass and dove for cover behind a wrecked truck.

Tali - Group One - The Beasts

Tali was glad that they had been able to bypass the checkpoint without having to fight. That kind of resolution to a problem was all too rare. It helped, just a little. It was the kind of memory she would tuck away for when things got bleak. And so their journey continued, with the shattered cityscape seeming to stretch on forever. If she dared, she would have sent up a sentry drone, but who knew what that might have alerted? Right now, all they had was their stealth. Although, judging from the supreme lack of further obstacles, they hardly had to work for it. And even that was disturbing after the myriad of obstacles they'd had before. It only made the unease deeper as silence settled over them like a smothering shroud.

Her fingers kept twitching and she found herself startled at the faintest of sounds. There was a palpable need to talk, to do anything to break the tension and the stillness, but she kept quiet. Breathe. Just breathe. Focus on that. Your scanners will pick up just about anything. If only we'd set up a pattern for who would stay alert before this. It can't be helped now, I guess.

As the sun set and the shadows lengthened, there was a new fear, that they wouldn't reach their goal in time today. Night fighting was always bad. She privately agreed with Will's remark. Then the howls sounded and the only thing that stopped her from firing off a round was that she'd recognized that possibility and taken her finger off the trigger of her shotgun long ago. The sound touched something deep within her. On the homeworld's grassy plains and arid sands, her people had once faced animals like this. But there, they could run and make it to the safety of the walled clanholds. Here, there was nothing but rubble. She leapt into action almost gratefully. This was just like fighting husks, or Blood Pack varren. She picked out the biggest pile of rubble near to them and pointed at it.

"There! We stand there! Form a ring, tight as you can, but leave space to swing something for when they get close! Guns evenly spaced, melee weapons between them!"

She was already scrambling up the pile, fingers moving like a demented spider as she began tapping out orders on her omni-tool. One sentry drone to let us know how outmatched we are, one defense drone for me, two combat drones to give the flamethrowers a good arc. She hit FABRICATE and the tool started minifacturing, but it would take a few seconds for each drone and it had to rework its minifabrication unit between orders. The sentry drone emerged first and immediately ascended to hover about thirty feet up. Her scanners got a boost at once and a small window opened up in the lower left corner of her visor, displaying a rotating view from the drone's cameras.

While she waited, she adjusted a control on the shotgun and a little holo of a fiery bullet popped up on its side to indicate incendiary ammunition was enabled. Some predators had tough hides and vorcha and krogan could regenerate wounds fast. The solution was fire.

Armani, group 2

And of course, things didn't work out. I never would have saw that one coming.

"Break for cover, now!", I yelled as I heard something coming around the corner. I dove behind a large, broken truck in the middle of the street as some kind of tank rounded the corner.

Its main gun began to whirl and track us; I knew we had maybe a couple of seconds before it started to tear into the couple of people who hadn't been quick enough to get out of the way.

I growled and yanked two of my few remaining Greek Fire arrows out of one of my leg quivers. I threw myself around the side of the truck and nocked the arrows.

Well, that was when Lady flipping shot the thing with a missile launcher. You have no idea how awesome that looks until you actually see it (and loud, very loud).

I grinned. "Oh gods where were you in our lives the last time I did this", I yelled. Pretty sure the sound of the explosion drowned it out, but hey, I tried. I dropped the two to the ground.

I brought my hand back to the string of my bow, and in a flash moonlight pooled into my hand and formed two of my arrows.

Now, I didn't know the exact design of this thing. But it was similar enough to other models of tanks, enough for me to take a pretty good guess at where the cockpit was.

In the heartbeat after Lady's freaking awesome display, I launched the two arrows right at where the cockpit was likely to be. And trust me, that's a lot more dangerous than it sounds, when it's my arrows and bow.

Group 1

The monotonous sneaking motions under the veil of invisibility were soon interrupted by the sound of beasts, a sort of primal discord of sounds that sent chills up the back of an ordinary person. Luckily, Naruclone 1 was someone who went through the Forest of Death (which did exactly what it described) and also trained in the wilds under the grueling sessions of a white haired kabuki pervert. At this point in time, she could drop kick bear sized tigers and eat its carcass for breakfast. Still, better to not be to cocky and play things safe.

Jogging into position of where she believed Tali would want someone like her, the ninja began arming herself with strong smelling smokebombs jampacked with all sorts of agitating chemicals thrown in the mix. Being a ninja meant one had to be prepared for a lot of situations, and the Village Hidden in the Leaf was smack dab in the middle of a forest with some rather large animals, so it only made sense she had equipment that could utterly wreck havoc on wild beasts through their sense of smell. "Everyone, I'm gonna chuck a bunch of really strong smelling smokebombs at whatever's coming nearby." Eyeballing her surroundings, the ninja would chuck individual bombs at wherever would be the thickest group of mystery creatures.

Group 2

"Man, these people are nuts. And stupid." Naruko the original stated with a frown full of distaste, looking rather pale that the people were so bloodthirsty that they would shoot into their own people. Where was the camaraderie, the closeknit brotherhood of a unit? All she saw were throngs of crazy people doing their best to bathe in blood in an idiotic attempt to kill the other side before their own fell from their own hands. "Urgh." Really, she was beyond pissed off at this point. Still, one had to be quiet and thus the girl simply continued to grimly run forward.

At which point, something that looked like a steampunk box on legs popped up, giant tubes jutting forth. Considering she's seen what said tubes could do on her own team's possessions, the bigger tubes would mean more boom. Not good for her and her allies, nope nope nope. Good thing the thing had a somewhat belated reaction that a ninja of her caliber could exploit. A slow ninja was a dead ninja most of the time, and Naruko Uzumaki was definitely not slow in combat.

Backstepping towards cover so fast that she was like an orange blur, her hand flashed in a curving arc. Flung from said outstretched limb was a shuriken, a four pointed metal star the size of a tennis ball. Ordinarily shuriken wouldn't do diddly squat against something with that much armor. But on this particular projectile was a pre-administered explosive tag wadded up in the hollow indentation in the middle of its construct. All those attacks from her allies went forward, Lady's big boomtube shooting some sort of cannonball like projectile upwards in a descending arc, Armani shooting a rather flashy arrow towards the cockpit in a straight line, Delta's Magnet Release looking attack with the heavy metal engine... her own shuriken spun through the air in a curve that aimed at the underside of the tank. Vehicles she fought in the past were particularly susceptible to attacks from below, especially automated ones since the undercarriage had all the fiddly bits and gas that let it run...

Group 3

Well, everything's rather going to pot right now. Sidestepping the now rather more inaccurate shots from the struggling ninja puppet (after all, aim goes to shit when you're knocked down, specially aimed attacks), Naruclone 2 simply grunted and set her foot onto the pavement once she found enough of a window of opportunity to do so. Her body posture now firmly anchored onto the ground via a horse stance, she yanked forward in one huge double handed motion before turning on her heels and trying her best to pull off the equivalent of an improvised shot put where the ninja would spin round and round to build up centrifugal force before letting the thing fly forward as an improvised flail towards the wizard or the head of the giant reptile, whichever one was closer.

Carmilla & Sypha, Team 2

As soon as the tank appeared, Carmilla and Sypha ran for cover behind the same truck that Armani had chosen... They did not need Lady or Armani to tell them what to do. In fact, each as well as Naruko Delta did their own attack. Lady fired a rocket out of her handheld cannon upwards in a descending arc. Armani fired a flashy arrow towards the cockpit. Naruko aimed a throwing to hit the thing from below. Delta just threw an engine block at the vehicle.

Carmilla and Sypha looked at each other and decide to move around Armani to get a good shot with Carmilla aiming for one side of the tank and Sypha aiming for the other... Then Carmilla fired dark magic from her hand at the autocannon on the left side of the vehicle while Sypha fired her Dark Flames spell from her staff at the autocannons on the other side of the vehicle. Both had hoped to damage both autocannons of the vehicle while the tank was distracted from the full-frontal assault on the minigun and the large cannon by the combined forces of Lady, Delta, Armani, and Naruko.

Ami - Team 2

As the tank rolled into view, most dodged down and ducked under cover. Ami, ever the special snowflake, went up instead. It was an unnecessary risk that wasn't particularly practical, but these things were not about practicality.

The airborne witch dove behind cover two stories up, into the broken shell of a nearby building and behind the sturdiest and most-intact section of wall it had. Hopefully, that would be enough to protect her from any bullets that might be aimed her way.

"Aero!" It was a bit redundant at this point, what with everyone else focusing their firepower on the walking tank, but hell if Ami was just going to sit out a fight. So as soon as she got behind cover, she leaned back out to cast a spell.

Instantly, the air around the tank compressed itself into a flurry of razor-sharp blades, all of which flew straight at it, aiming to slice it to bits.

Elesis (Team 2, Victory Street) - Condemnation

The second Elesis heard the rumbling noise and felt the ground started to shake, she immediately prepared herself for battle. And while she was not expecting a massive metallic abomination to be their opponent, she had no intentions to back away from the fight. In fact, it was because the opponent was so imposing that she had no other choice but to destroy it.

"Blood..."

She lifted her right hand, with her palm extended towards the sky, and both dark energy and blood started to flow towards it, spinning and spinning at higher speeds with each passing moment. In what took the others to start launching their attacks, the spinning disc had grown wider than Elesis herself was tall, and it was already being dragged back by her hand.

"Cutter!"

With a quick spin of her body and a lot of force behind her motion, the knight threw the crimson sawblade, which travelled in a straight line directly towards the spot she had considered to be the weakest from her first glance: the section that joined the machine's body with the heavily armed turret.

Lucina, Team 1

As the last of the band made it across unscathed, Lucina clapped the young Joestar on the shoulder.

"Well done, Shizuka." She said, softly but sincerely, before taking up the rearguard as the group moved off.

Lucina's ears practically shot straight up as she heard that first distinctive, predatory howl. The taguel's hackles immediately rose, a sliver of ice slipping down her spine as she reflexively drew Falchion from its scabbard. More and more howls joined the chorus, and deep in the animal part of her brain, a primal voice shouted, Run! Hide! It was an instinct she'd had to master over the course of many years, but even so, a small growl crept unbidden from her lips.

Tali barker out orders a moment before Lucina opened her mouth to do the same, and her tactics were sound. Lucina turned and strode towards the mound that would serve as their high ground, heart hammering in her chest.

"Ser Aryl!" She called into the mouthpiece of the device clipped to the underside of one of her ears, her voice urgent. "Are these beasts or soldiers? Are they armed?" The baying and howling seemed to signal the former, but the armies of this city were not bound by the rules she was accustomed to. Taking her spot in the defensive ring with her blade held in front of her. Her eyes darted form side to side, ears twitching as more howls echoed through the streets. She tried to detect where they'd be coming from first, nostrils flaring as she tried to sniff the foe out as well. As beloved as her father's sword was, she found herself wishing for a lance.

"Hold fast to this formation." She said to the others, her voice firm despite her bristling fur. "Don't let yourself become separated and surrounded, and watch your comrades on either side."

Yi- Team 1

Yi stood in the ring formation when some of the members of the group ordered, grabbing his Hyperlight blade and standing in a combat stance, waringly looking at his surroundings for the beasts to arrive.

"Blade and body.."

This will be...their final lesson.

Emiya Shirou; Group One - Or, Literally Armless

Wow. Sounds like wolves.

Everyone's forming a circle. I put myself to the left of Soryu and the right of Blue Bunny, staring for a moment at the latter's sword.

Hey, I tell it. You're gorgeous.

"Be that as it may," says Falchion's dour form, slapping me upside the head as she spins into my mind, "you are unworthy to look on me. I cannot believe you even tried."

Well, I think it worked just fine.

"Loser."

I half-shrug, which looks a bit like a funky dance move, close my unpatched eye, and delve deep into my head for a weapon. Kanshou reaches for me, her white-black edges glowing soft and sharp.

"Trace…"

Krrk, goes my mind, grating like the offset fragments of a fractured skull. It's sickening, like my whole spine just slipped out of joint. I stop Tracing, wince and swallow my gorge. As I clear my throat, trying to pretend I'm okay, a bubble of bile pops and sends its sour stench into my sinuses.

"Does anyone have a spare weapon?"

I reach for the meatpatch. The two phantom limbs, Archer's Arm and mine, dig tight into each other, as if clenching with the effort. I have to dig my thumb in and yank hard, but eventually the Shroud comes off, bloody knot dangling and speckled with orange like a tabby's hairball. The ribeye peels off my eye-eye, slips down the side of my nose and plops to the concrete.

"Something I can get my hand on?"

I wink once or twice, eyelids matted with dense red gunk. I don't have a mirror, but I'm pretty sure the left side of my face looks something frightful.

"I mean, even a stick will do."

On the other hand (which I don't have, but hey), that bruise is definitely a goner.
