Just a Face and a Caption: Ensemble Darkhorse

Okay does anyone see what an image of a character mean on the sub-pages from Anime, Literature, Comic Books, Films and Video Games? Cause the images didn't really convey the point of the trope (A minor character being incredibly popular).

We've had quite a few threads about Ensemble Dark Horse and some of its subpages. That said, the position that we were operating under back when Eddie was the admin was that the pics that were in place should be left alone unless there was an Edit War going on over them. Nowadays, I think I'd be fine with pulling them, as the only way this trope can adequately be pictured is with a parody or lampshade.

Right now, Ensemble Dark Horse is part of the "no pic" list, but I'd be fine with moving it to BUPKIS and doing the same with all the subpages.

Is it possible to add a picture on the main page by making it a pun (a literal dark horse)?

Only if it's in a group shot. Ensemble and all that.

Otherwise we'd need a lampshade image.

The current MLP picture has a literal example. Alternatively you could use Bad Horse from Dr. Horrible (although the fact that he's a literal example is a spoiler). I'm not convinced either will work well as a page picture.

I forgot that we'd picked that one. Hmmmm...I could see maybe using that on the main page as a Visual Pun in lieu of an actual example.

Yeah going to say no on the pun unless it is an actual proven example of the trope.

I wouldn't mind actually say a group shot with some minor character in the back with an arrow then a second image of say pixiv showing hundreds of thousands of search results for that lone character in the back. Possibly showing it eclipses the person in the front of the group shot.

Let me see if I can throw something together in a bit.

^^ I'll take that for the main page. Make every other subpage BUPKIS.

My problem with the real horses pic is that the shadows make several of them dark, which ruins the effect. I'd take the MLP pic over that one.

For the subpages, I'd be fine with a picture of the cast, and the caption pointing out the most popular character is some guy off to the left, not the people in the center.

While it's caption reliant, it conveys that it's about a more minor character in a group, not just the most popular character.

The MLP picture linked in the old thread is great.

x2 I don't think you're understanding. The pun only works if a singular horse in the group is dark.

This is a bad idea. I'd rather leave the subpages blank.

I like the MLP idea.

I would approve of Princess Luna too, since the trope isn't quite easy to illustrate anyway; that would be a nice compromise.

Edit: Subpages added to BUPKIS. The page itself was under No Pic; it has been removed from that list. Put it under "Don't Change" once we move the pic?
