Notebook City, California. February 28th, 2026.

A violet haired high school teacher stared out the wide glass windows of her school, the students were scribbling away at the latest exam, while there was a burst of rain outside. Of course it was rain. Snow wasn't a normal part of California. That's what she'd found out at any rate.

Then again Amylase Alpsam wouldn't be here at all if everything was normal.

She awoke from her daze by the sound of the classroom bell. A red haired girl in goggles was the first to rush to her desk and shove the paper on her desk.

"I tried my best Ms. Alpsam! Just hope I get a passing grade this time! I put my 110% into it. Just like everything!" she said.

"Err..." Ms. Alpsam replied. Sophie's grasp at mathematics probably wouldn't help her so much in this science class.

"Gotta go ma'am!" she cried out as she left the room.

Amylase sighed for a bit. Some kinds were kind of hopeless. One by one the other students exited the room leaving Amylase alone. Now was the time to start working on her important job.

She took her umbrella out and walked to her home. It was only a block away conveniently enough. A rather large apartment for a school teacher, though the furniture was nothing fancy. There was a desk there, and a worn down used office chair. She would spend hours on that desk, typing against an old laptop with the ferocity of a woodpecker. Her body occasionally urged her to get some food, but nothing else seemed to break the school teacher's focus. Her guests knew well enough to leave her alone.

"Prodigious!" she shouted through the silence. "You all aren't going to believe this but I've finally made a breakthrough.

There was a yawn and a grumble from above her. The sound was sourced to a creature that could only be described as a chimera between bat and a pig painted orange. She muttered.

"After countless hours at this desk only now you've actually made a breakthrough. I'm really not regretting my decision to stay away from this whole work thing."

"Aren't you snappish Patamon? But I've done it! I've cracked the system. It's short range but know that I can send out our message. We're going to put you to work."

"But I hate work..." the Patamon replied.

Amylase paid the Digimon no mind. She had found the channel and would send the message.

I'm not sure how many will receive this message. But those who do should be aware of this. I know a good chunk of what I describe to you is unbelievable without proof, so I'll try the best I can. This is a Digimon. Amylase paused when typing this to take a picture of Patamon.

"My eyes were closed..." she mumbled.

Creatures like these are fleeing to our world. Many of them need our help, many of them are dangers to us, because they are scared and angry. If you want to do something about this situation, meet me in Lovelace Academy, room 210. Be sure to bring this device with you.

Sophie Almassy was going through a rather typical day at school. She would attend classes at 8 in the morning, head to the art club at 3. Swim practice started at 4 (luckily she never forgot her goggles). Drama practice at 6:30. Right now the clock struck nine, signalling that it was time to go home and get a bite to eat before studying and homework.

"Hmm.... So there's going to be that exhibition on Saturday... But that's the same time as the swim meet. And what about..." she pondered before she was distracted by an odd image.

It was one of those QR codes she'd seen. She always thought they were kind of gimmicky and a waste of time. But this one was glowing, the light reflecting off her goggles, flashing on and off. It was only a 2D image right? Was there some kind of projector around? Sophie looked around and saw nothing.

"OK guys. You win. If you put this much effort into this gimmick, I'll scan it." she said, taking out her phone. She held it steady and scanned.

Suddenly this detour from her routine took an interesting turn. The light was taken into her phone. Transforming it. It was like an old brick phone now, with actual buttons and everything! Red screen and body with orange casing. It looked like it had a LED screen.

"What the heck is going on here!?" Sophie said.

Only a moment later she heard a ping. It was a sound kind of like pixels if that made any sense. She was sent a text for an unknown number.

Creatures like these are fleeing to our world. Many of them need our help, many of them are dangers to us, because they are scared and angry. If you want to do something about this situation, meet me in Lovelace Academy, room 210. 3 PM tomorrow. Be sure to bring this device with you.

She looked at the pig-bat thing, confused. "God damn it! That just brings up more questions than answers. Since when do Q Rs physically downgrade cell-phones!?" Sophie asked.

She went home confused and fuming. She devoured her dinner like a wild boar. She tried to hide her phone from Aunt Carolyn but she was so spaced out today that she didn't think it was necessary to hide it at all.

She couldn't keep her mind off the phone throughout her homework. This whole thing seemed kind of surreal, like Carolyn had baked something into her brownies again. But every time she checked her phone it was still a brick and the message was still there.

After a couple of hours of futilely trying to keep her focus on her studies she gave up and decided to hit the hay. "I'm not going to be able to get over this until I find out what's the deal with this... I mean the meeting place is in Lovelace, right? It wouldn't be too much trouble to listen to what the crazy person has to say." she muttered to herself before heading to sleep.

The next day Sophie was able to put up a front of normalcy. She warned the art club that she would be MIA, but no one seemed particularly distressed by this. She got her test back in science and she had managed to score a B- this time, but the pleasure she got from that news was eclipsed by the dreaded meeting.

When the bell rang Sophie dashed out, reaching the far end of the hall where 210 sat. She opened the door cautiously to find... There was no one in there yet.

"Alright Sophie..." she said outloud. "I can wait." She sat down on one of the desks and decided to spend this time honing her art skills. She wanted to draw that flying pig thing. If nothing else it was a cute design.

En route to Notebook City

Marco de Palma stood on the deck of his father's boat, looking onto the city that lay before it. It had been a couple of days since he had received that very strange message regarding... Digimon? Were those the strange creatures that he had heard rumors of? It didn't matter. The message he had received on his phone seemed to be urgent. Not an hour went by on that boat without thinking about his father. He had insisted that Marco go and investigate the source of this mysterious message. It was probably some kind of joke, but his father had always told him to trust his eyes, not his ears.

After stepping off the boat, Marco looked around. At least while he was here he could engage in some harmless peering. He'd heard mainlander girls were pretty, now was the time to see if it was really true.

"C'mon, Marco. Weird message first, ladies second," he muttered to himself, before pulling up a map of Notebook City on his phone, including instructions to lead to this school that the message had talked about. As soon as he pulled up the map, however, he noticed the strangest symbol on one of the walls of the many tall buildings in this city. It was clearly a QR code. Closing the map, he smirked a bit. Obviously this was some sort of weird Notebook viral marketing campaign, and he scanned the QR code without thinking much of it.

His satisfied smirk turned into a worried frown as the strangest thing came over his phone. There was no way. This had to be some sort of weird dream. The QR code had somehow physically altered his phone; it was now a strange, dark blue brick of a device, and as he stood there, slack-jawed, Marco saw the display flash and an arrow appear. Was this odd machine really guiding him to where he needed to go? More scared than he thought he would be, he made his way towards the area the once-phone pointed.

The device led him to what looked like a school, at least, though it was fairly unusual for a school at any rate. He tried to make sure people didn't see his (frankly strange-looking) phone, so they wouldn't ask too many weird questions. Eventually, however, he made his way up a flight of stairs and down a hall to end up at the room that was pointed out in the weird message. He stood, nervous, before reaching his trembling hand towards the door and turning the knob. He stepped in.

Arashi Shigehito was currently at his house, on his computer doing his Physics homework, somewhat bored as he goes through the problems.

I honestly wished this homework didn't take so long, but at least I'm good enough at it so that it's not that big of a deal.

Sighing a little, he soon has to dodge a book thrown at his head; looking behind him he sees a small, imp-like creature, purple in color, wearing red gloves and a scarf, and most peculiar of all, a yellow smirking face on its abdomen.

"Damn it Mephiles, I wish you'd stop doing that to grab my attention, you could just say something," Arashi says, looking annoyed at the creature, known as Mephiles the Impmon, as he just smirks back at him.

"I'll stop when it stops being funny to see your reactions. Plus, we haven't really gotten into any real fights since we dealt with that Tyrannomon," Mephiles says with a smirk, before having to move himself as the book is thrown back at him.

"We didn't deal with him so much as we drove him off, it'll probably come back at some point." Going back to his work, he soon notices a second tab open up on his computer. Switching to it out of curiosity, he sees a QR code pulsing and glowing on his screen.

Weird, I'm pretty sure QR codes aren't supposed to do that. On sheer impulse, he soon scans the code with his phone, wondering what it is before a light starts shining from his phone, the device physically changing in his hands. Startled, he pulls back as the device soon changes into something resembling an old brick phone, with even a few buttons on it; a red screen and body with dark purple casing are now visible, along with what looks like a LED screen.

"W-What the fuck just happened?!" Confused at his outburst and the light, Mephiles soon comes over and looks at it as well.

"What happened to your phone?" he asks, confused and a little shocked at the change, as very soon a text appears on it, with words talking about strange creatures appearing, them needing the help of others, a picture of a Patamon, and a time and location for a meeting the next day.

"So...think we should go?" Mephiles asks, looking at his friend as he stares intently at the screen.

"Well...it couldn't hope to go, right?" Replying back, Arashi soon puts the phone down before resuming his homework, finishing it up around 11 pm before going to sleep a while later, along with Mephiles.

The next day, both Arashi and Mephiles arrive at the meeting place, Room 210, as Arashi had already finished his classes for the day, with Mephiles sneaking over to the school to check the meeting out for himself. They soon enter the room, with Mephiles sprinting to hide somewhere at Arashi's request so as to not freak out any other people who come in. Finding only one other person in the room, a cute redheaded girl, he soon takes one of the seats and waits for the turn-out.

-Phil Norton was, for lack of a better term, confused. Confused about his place in the world, confused about where he had miss-stepped in his few attempts at interacting with the fairer gender and confused about how exactly a student had managed to break the power button of a fresh from the box smartphone. Though perhaps most importantly, definitely most relevant, was that he was confused about the inexplicable glowing glyph that had found it's way onto a normally irrelevant wall of his office-

Hm... Hmmmmmmm... Seriously, what the frickkin' do you do little code?

-He had tried to scan it with a webcam he barely used, no effect. He had tried recreating it in Paint, no effect. He even tried just looking up how to read QR codes and tried to sort it out manually, that just confused him even more. Eventually, after quickly checking his already rather bricky phone for the required software to scan it (spoiler alert it didn't) he grumbled under his breath, brought the mildly broken smartphone over and scanned it. He was... Quite flummoxed by the results, flummoxed and slightly annoyed. As he scrawled out "new friggin' smartphone because accidentally bricked student's" into both his to-do list and his sheet of expenses he read the message and head-tilted at the creature-

Huh, looks like, a little cute. Wonder if the name means what I think it means...

-It took a second before he realized one important fact of the message. Whoever sent this message would be having the meeting basically right next door to his closet-office! Alright, considering that it was convenient to attend and he had nothing else to do after school he was going to turn up to this meeting, but he'd have to play it cool...-

Tomorrow, Room 210

-Phil slipped into the room, trying to look like he was here for some reason other than mere curiosity about who in the school could of sent this weird, device-specific message out. He stepped in and noted the several people already here. Oh dear, already three and three was oft to be a crowd-

U-uh... I'm just here to... Do some maint work. Everything alright in here?

Exams, what a joy.

Kaede was working hard, thankfully she had studied enough that most of the questions seemed really easy to her. That relief didn't last long, however, as she soon felt someone prodding her on the back. It was another girl and from she could see, the face she was making was one of "please give me the answers". That was bad, very very bad, she wanted to help but she had never done something like that before. The questions were all multiple choice so at least it would be easier to do it, but if she got caught she was really screwed.

She then had an idea, she began writing down the answers on her eraser and then sneakily dropped it behind her. She then finished writing down all the answers for her own exam and got up to give to her teacher. She tried to keep a straight face, but she was still a little nervous out of worry that she would get caught. Thankfully, nothing happened and she was free to leave no problem.

After leaving she made a beeline for the bathroom, she had drank a lot of water before doing the exam, probably not her best idea. Once she was done, she was about to open the stall's door when she heard someone open the door of the bathroom, chatting loudly with another person.

"Man, isn't it great to have Kaede around? She's smart and she'll do whatever you want her to as long as you keep being her friend," said a girl, whose voice she recognized as being from the girl who wanted the answers to the exam earlier.

"Poor girl just lets herself be used like a tool because she wants friends..." said another girl

"Her fault for being so dumb and hey, I even got a new eraser out of that," said the first girl, letting out some giggles.

Having heard enough, Kaede simply opened the stall door and showed herself to the girls, but she seemed to not even acknowledge their existence, however she could tell that they were both looking shocked. They stood still like statues while she washed her hands and then dried them, before walking to the first girl with a sad smile on her face.

"Can you give me my eraser back?" she asked. The girl didn't even say anything, she just opened her bag and got the eraser and handed it back to Kaede without a word. "Thank you," she said as she took it back

Kaede then simply walked out of the bathroom, simply not wanting to deal with those two any longer than she had to. The moment she left the bathroom she heard the second girl say something to the other one

"Girl, you're the worst," she said in a very disappointed tone.

Kaede began walking home afterwards, she really just wanted to lie down on her bed and forget everything. She knew she was just being exploited by her so called "friends" since she just wanted to be part of their group, but if she didn't just play along with it then she would be left alone by herself so... There just wasn't a way for her to win in that situation, was there? She sighed and began looking around for anything that could distract her from those thoughts, unfortunately there wasn't much going on at the street at the time.

She finally got home, said hello to her parents and brother, then went to change clothes. When she opened the door to her wardrobe though, she noticed a light coming from the door and saw what seemed to be a QR code in it.

"What the...?" she asked herself, raising an eyebrow, she looked at the other side of the door to see if there was anything that could be making that light, but there just wasn't.

Out of curiosity she decided to scan it with her phone, but once she did her phone had gotten enveloped by the light and suddenly changed into a very, very outdated orange colored phone. Kaede just stared at it in shock for a good five minutes.

"... I... I had just bought this phone..." she said, covering her forehead with her free hand, "great, now everyone will make fun of me for having this junk... how did this even happen?!" she sighed in frustration

Then she heard a song come out of it and noticed that she had a new message, which she was quick to read.

"I'm not sure how many will receive this message. But those who do should be aware of this. I know a good chunk of what I describe to you is unbelievable without proof, so I'll try the best I can. This is a Digimon. Creatures like these are fleeing to our world. Many of them need our help, many of them are dangers to us, because they are scared and angry. If you want to do something about this situation, meet me in Lovelace Academy, room 210. Be sure to bring this device with you."

"Hey, that's actually kinda cute," she said, looking at the so called Digimon in the picture with a small smile, but it soon faded as she let the message sink in, "that's my school... guess I might as well check it out tomorrow, for now though..."

She then went back to doing what she was meaning to do before all of that craziness began.

"A+!" yelled Kaede, fist pumping with all her might.

She was now walking through the corridor after the bell rang, going towards the meeting. She had no idea of what to expect from it but at least she got one nice thing out of that day already, acing a test was nothing to sneeze at after all. She looked through the room numbers and finally found room 210 at the far end of the hall. She stood in front of the door for some moments, trying to decide whether to really go there or not, her earlier enthusiasm completely fading and being replaced by worry and curiosity. After some pondering, sje took a deep breath, opened the door and stepped in.

There were people there already, as she figured. Once she took a quick glance at the room, she moved over to one of the desks and sat down, not even two minutes had gone past and she already was starting to feel really awkward there. She could only hope that meeting wouldn't take too long.

Alyesha was looking up from the tank she was currently working on, today was a good day. She wished a bit of sweat from her face - and with the same movement she brought a bit of grease from her hand on it - she chuckled, probably would need to bathe soon enough. But not now, she just had finished the last road wheel. 12 wheels done in the Holt Caterpillar system - that meant 6 of the suspension axis - per side, that was not really a work one could call... exiting. The track on the other hand was fixed to the thing quite fast, meaning she could bring the hing out to test it. The whole thing was scaled 1/5 so it was a real monster.

Outside on her testtrack though she found that for some reason the small beton cube (bunker as she called it) sported a QR code, something that was clearly not there last time she looked. It also didn't seem like a normal QR code either, she couldn't really pin down what was wrong, but it was... strange somehow. Then again, maybe it was a little joke from her mother, not like she hadn't done something similar in the past. Last time she scanned such a thing it yielded a custom made website her mother had made in her break out of boredom with a few... interesting features, giggling she got out her smartphone to scan the code.

As she scanned it happend, she could feel the phone shift in her hand and as she looked again she held what could only be described as a brick in her hand, a small LED screen was flashing on it. Well... that... wtf.. She inspected the thing, this was definetly not the smartphone she had in her hand just a second ago, and that QR definetly wasn't from her mother either. She hid the thing in a pocket of hers for now and decided to do the only thing she could think of for now - that being document this QR code. She ran into the house and got the old Folding Camera she once brought on a flea market. Hoping the thing wouldn't be bricked to she made a photo of the code. And, indeed the camera stayed like she knew it, lucky for her this was the 12th photo so she needed develop the film anyway. Getting back into the house she had completely forgotten the T-28 model or the grease on her face for now.

She knew she had to ask her mother about the code when she would come back, at least she had... physical evidence. For now she needed to get this film developed so she could show her mother the code... maybe she knew what the hell what was wrong. Suddenly the smartphone of her father - he seemingly had forgotten it at home for the 10th-million time - received a MMS. Alyesha got the thing and looked into it, if it was important she could tell her father later.

Sure enough Alyesha came to the building soon after she read the text. She looked around, now all that was left was to find Room 210, which she managed easy enough. As she entered she looked around currently it seemed 5 other persons were already here.

Lux let out a sigh as he stepped into the room he shared in his on campus apartment. Another day of teaching meant another day where he'd struggled just avoiding making a fool of himself. After removing his shoes and tugging off his tie he began to remove his art supplies from the spare backpack he took with him, calling out to the room's other occupant as he went along.

"Monday! How was your day? I trust you stay out of trouble..."

A shuffling sound could be heard as the sheets from the topmost bunk could be seen moving around. After a few moments, a figure in the form of a brown and pink rabbit could be seen staring at the art teacher from above.

"Yeah yeah, of course. There's something up with your desk though. I'm surprised you haven't seen it. You're lucky your old roommate moved out before I arrived though the fact you still have two housemates isn't much better."

At Monday's words, Lux let out a frown. While it was true that he had housemates they stayed out of each other's business so he wasn't sure why she was bringing them up unless something had happened earlier that day. Pushing it out of his mind he moved over inspect the desk the school had provided.

Sure enough there was a faint glow coming from one of the drawers. Yanking it open with one fluid motion he began to empty the drawer to get at the bottom of it. Making short work of it he noticed the glow coming from the QR Code. after he'd met Monday, who he'd managed to draw the fact she was something called a Lopmon out of her, in a burst of static a few days earlier he wasn't too surprised by the presence of the QR Code. More surprising was how simple it seemed more than its presence itself.

Pulling out his cellphone, he thumbed to his app for reading QR Codes. It had come in handy a few times earlier so surely it might come in handy for this. Pointing the camera at the inside of his desk was finally enough for something to shock him. The code itself seemed to float into his phone and then the phone itself seemed to downgrade in his hands. The screen itself became red and the body morphed into a dark gray with a white colored grip.

Setting his new phone down, he slid into his chair and opened up his laptop. After a few moments the phone itself began to glow followed by the laptop itself as a light similar to the one the QR Code gave off beamed from the phone to the laptop. In turn a message appeared on the screen of the laptop alongside a picture of what looked like an orange pig crossed with a bat. Turning the laptop to face Monday, he acknowledged her.

"Is this a friend of yours? Digimon seems like a weird species name..."

"That's a Patamon. We're both Digimon and I don't know every species of Digimon that's out there."

Lux sighed and went back to work. He'd have to go to the meeting tomorrow after all.

The following day the pair stood before room 210. Lux had ran home to pick up the Lopmon and brought her to the school with him. Not wanting to delay any further, he pushed the door open and made his way to the back of the room, ignoring the other occupants as they went.

"Wake up."

....

"Wake up."

"Five more minutes"

"Wake up you petty vagabond!" A voice shouted in the teen's ear, waking him up and making him fall off his bed in surprise. Julian pulled himself up to glare at the small gear-like creature that had awoken him.

"Dammit Galahad, are you still hanging around here?"

"Someone has to prevent you from causing any more damage."

"Dammit it was one wallet! My punishment, namely that of you following me home does not match the crime! Or how about my phone morphing into some weird pager." Julian replied, gesturing to the digivice where it sat on his dresser. "Seriously for someone so obsessed with doing 'the right thing' following me is awfully shady.

Galahad had stopped listening as soon as the digivice was mentioned. "Right, that's what I was waking you up for. You got a message!"

The teen blinked slowly. "A message?" He crawled across the bed to the digivice and picked it up, staring at the words on the screen.

I'm not sure how many will receive this message. But those who do should be aware of this. I know a good chunk of what I describe to you is unbelievable without proof, so I'll try the best I can. This is a Digimon.

"Fleeing, huh? Seems as though you left out some details about your situation, Galahad." Julian stated, giving the digimon a side-long glance. Galahad himself looked faintly embarrassed.

"Well, nothing for it. You're coming with me to get some answers tomorrow."

Next day, Lovelace Academy

Julian came to the far nicer school after his classes for the day ended, wandering around trying to find the room and looking for potential marks.

"Have you found the room yet?" Came a muffled voice from his bag.

"Shut up." He hissed back. "Bags don't talk, just stay patient I'm sure it's around here somewhere...ah, here we go."

Julian found room 210 and pushed open the door, seeing that he wasn't the first person to arrive. He raised a hand in greeting. "Hey, am I late for the party or something?"

When Marco entered, he found that there were already quite a few people arriving as well. And quite a few of them were good-looking as well! Perhaps this trip would be worth it after all! He still kept his transformed phone hidden in case, but he hoped it wouldn't be too much an issue. He made a warm smile at the girls.

"Hello! What brings girls like you to a place like this?" he replied, leaning against the wall and smiling at them, attempting to look suave. "I got a message on my phone telling me to come here... you too?"

I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

"Hello everyone." Arashi says, somewhat causally before returning to his book.

"And yes, I did get a message on my 'phone'." He says, pulling out the brick-like phone out of his pocket and putting it on the table.

Alyesha decided that hiding something wouldn't accomplish anything here, since she was quite sure that that... thing she had in her pocket had something to do with the message. So without much hesitation she drew the strange device "Well... if you can still call that 'phone' then I suppose yes." Technically I got the message on dad's phone but whatever. "I guess I know the answer, but do you know anything about this... orange flying bat pig - I never thought I would have to say that once."

"nope and nope", Lilith said with a sigh.

She wasn't to keen on showing the rather weird compass she had stashed in her school bag.

"Anyway Im missing time in the gym for this. So whats going on here?"

Julian pulled out the strange, slim device that his phone had morphed into, since it seemed to be the thing to do at the moment. "Yeah, things are very weird. And while I may not be able to tell you more about the bat-pig, I know someone who might be able to." He explained, unzipping his bag.

"Alright Galahad, we're here."

A set of three gears, one larger than the other two and with a face pulled itself out of the bag and looked around at the assembled humans.

"Greetings, I am Harugumon, called Galahad by the vagabond."

"If this is show-and-tell, then...Mephiles get in here!" Arashi shouts, startling everyone from the volume as it looks like he's just yelling out for no reason.

"Fine, fine, it was getting boring anyway." Soon, a small imp-like creature jumps up onto Arashi's desk, having come over from his heading space in the back of the room. "Hey, my name's Impmon, though the lazy guy here has taken to calling me Mephiles."

Julius stared at Alyesha. "You're taking this much better than I did when I first saw him." When he saw Sophie freak out he pointed to her.

"See my reaction was much closer to that...only...without the falling. Is she alright?"

Galahad gave Alyesha the semblance of a bow. "Indeed I am, and may I ask your name mi'lady?"

"Eh, it could be weirder. You could have met your buddy here while he tries to help you drive off a Tyrannomon." Mephiles says, pointing a thumb at Arashi, who has the decency to look a little embarrassed about the experience.

The city cries out in anguish.

It needs me.

As I walk these streets, I hear the sirens, I smell fresh blood on the cracked tarmac of a dark alley.

This is why I do what I do.

Why I fight my endless battle against injustice.

Why I help those in need.

"....Meow."

An orange tabby was sat on the sidewalk, tail swaying from side to side as it looked up at the fedora wearing man standing in front of it. The man looked at a piece of paper in his hand. It was a lost pet poster promising a generous reward of $50.

50 big ones, you can buy a lot of ramen with that.

The man slowly approached the cat.

"Here kitty, now don't you-"

The cat turned and ran off.

"Run...of."

The man gave chase through the winding alleyways of the city, chasing the orange furball as it tried to escape it's would-be saviour. The animal pounced onto a set of cardboard boxes and leapt over a fence, the man following close behind. The cat disappeared from view as he began to scale the chainlink fence.

"You're not gonna get far-Woah!"

As he leapt over the top his pants snagged on the fence and he tumbled to the ground, landing flat on his back. Gritting his teeth he pulled himself up and ran down the rest of the alley, making a right and finding a dead end, a glorified backyard of sorts for some apartment residents. The cat was there, desperately pawing at a door.

"There you are."

The man picked up the cat receiving a few scratches on his arms for his effort.

"You are definitely not worth the $50."

Just as a he turned to leave a piece of graffiti tagged on the alley's wall caught his attention. Normally most graffiti would go unnoticed by him, he saw it everywhere in these residential areas. But graffiti doesn't usually glow. Ignoring the cats protests he stepped closer to examine the urban art only to find that it was a large, glowing QR code.

Curious he took out his phone and scanned it. The display on his phone immediately began glitching out.

"Great, I just fell for someone's cyber prank."

Suddenly his phone started to glow. Reflexively he dropped it and the cat, who quickly fed the scene. He peered down as his device transfigured and began taking a new shape. A digivice. A message appeared on its screen.

I'm not sure how many will receive this message. But those who do should be aware of this. I know a good chunk of what I describe to you is unbelievable without proof, so I'll try the best I can. This is a Digimon. Creatures like these are fleeing to our world. Many of them need our help, many of them are dangers to us, because they are scared and angry. If you want to do something about this situation, meet me in Lovelace Academy, room 210. Be sure to bring this device with you.

"A digiwhat?"

He reached down and picked the device up. He had convinced himself this was a dream, after all he had failed to catch the missing cat and failing is something that the Desmond Descarte, P.I. didn't do. However, the QR code on the wall started glowing brighter, widening and distorting in a large circle. Looking up he saw a silhouette coming out of the newly formed portal and a buzzing sound accompanying it. He was about to get some very concrete proof that he was not dreaming.

Now, Lovelace Academy, Room 210

A very detective looking guy walks in. Despite what the rest of his frame suggests he has quite the beergut.

The Meeting

-Phil tried to look shocked by the sudden influx of tiny creatures into the meeting, he was still sticking to his story of maint work. Emphasis was on 'tried' there, because he was pretty silent as he looked the creatures over-

What are those things..? Also I... I didn't get any messages?

-He fished around in his pocket and pulled out his actual, not digiviced-but-still-quite-bricky phone and showed it-

So I dunno who phoned y'all to come here...

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.
