I am a little bit angry that there won't be a release from the animation studio this year.
But 2018 has 2 releases at least
I don't want two releases in a year either. I want it nice and orderly, one movie per year from Pixar and one from the Animation studios.
Beauty & the Beast has kicked Iron Man 3 out of the all-time top 10 highest-grossing films worldwide.

Peace is the only battle worth waging.Told you so.....
BATB has passed $500 mil domestic.
Worldwide, it will probably be knocked out of the top ten by F8.
F8 is the sixth film to reach $1 billion internationally.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has surpassed the worldwide gross of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Wonder Woman makes 11 million dollars domestically on Thursday preview screenings.
For comparison, that puts it just a touch behind the original Guardians of the Galaxy at 11.2 million, which went on to make 94.3 million opening weekend.
Currently they are projecting a very respectable 89 million dollar opening weekend. Keep in mind this doesn't include anything outside the US.
Sounds like a solid opening.
I'm holding off till it hits On Demand following a rather obnoxious review, but maybe you know, people won't look at Elektra as the be-all, end-all of women's superhero films.
Honestly, if she beats Man of Steel, I would be so happy.
The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw gave it (Wonder Woman) two stars out of five. No link as I don't like the begging on their page for you to give them moneyz.
I guess Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie will bomb at the box office due to opening up against Wonder Woman.
It was sent to slaughter and the producers probably know it. Kind of a shame because the reviews are positive.
Perhaps it can get a family audience that might balk at Wonder Woman.

Wasn't Captain Underpants made on a low budget? If so, it will probably still turn in a decent profit.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Well, it might take n.2 and flourish there, it's not impossible. Particularly since they appeal to different audiences.
Fifty Shades Darker, The LEGO Batman Movie and John Wick: Chapter 2 all opened within the same week, and they all ended up in the top three (from first to third, respectively). All three movies were hugely successful despite the competition with one another, partially because all three aimed at very different crowds.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Captain Underpants costed $38 M, so even a $20 million opening is absolutely fine.
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesCaptain Underpants is a low budget movie and it is above all a good counter program for families with little kids. Remember how much money the f... smurf movie made by opening the same weekend as Star Wars?
It's main problem is not the opening day, but the stupid title. Yeah, I know, it is based on something, but it does sound like one of Dream Works "only little kids might love this" efforts when apparently it is not - if I can believe the reviews.

To my knowledge, no Smurfs film opened the same weekend as any Star Wars film.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Sorry...I think I confused it with the last chipmunks movie....but my point stands, Captain Underpants doesn't necessarily address the same audience.

So, it seems like Wonder Woman exceeded expectations (Yay!!!! Take that stupid studio executives who left this particular goldmine untapped for ages because they thought that nobody would be interested in a female lead Superhero movie!) while Captain Underpants performed low for Dream Works standards, but more than well enough for its budget.
Oh, there were many efforts to get a Wonder Woman movie made before this, lots of scripts were commissioned and directors considered, but it kept getting stuck in Development Hell.
"It takes an idiot to do cool things, that's why it's cool" - Haruhara HarukoI know. But the fact remains that during the same time period, they made, not counting batman vs superman, six Superman movies and eight Batman movies....well, nine Batman movies if you count Mask of the Phantasm, which did get a full blown theatrical release.
Wonder Woman's domestic box office estimates have been revised up again to 103.1 million.
While this still isn't technically the final number for weekend box office, I'm very comfortable saying that Wonder Woman has joined the 100 million dollar opening club. Combined with international markets and it's grossed $225.6 million total.
This makes me really happy. Not only does the movie, and Patty Jenkins as a director, deserve this success it also means that female-led superhero films are now an established concept in cinema. The concept was always going to have another chance with Captain Marvel, but now that pressure is off the movie and it can start from a firmer foundation.note In addition it's going to mean that a lot of characters who have always had the potential to have the starring role in a movie might actually get that chance.
Yeah. It's weird how after Cars 3 there won't be another Disney release for another 4 1/2 months when Ragnarok come out. But if it means making a huge profit from them, they must know what they are doing.
