Urban Legend Investigations - Operations Room

I know, it's a disaster that I didn't recognize until Wysp pointed it out. He wouldn't go down easily in a fight, but he can die when he's stabbed in the back.

My first thought would be for him to go see a psychologist. A journey from insane cultist to reasonable person might be worth watching.

Dealing with urban legends certainly won't help his superstition, but he can be a much kinder person if he grows out of his background with the cult. But... who will act out as the psychologist?!

That is ... a very good question.

Maybe he just needs a mentor. A hardened reverend of some sort that challenges Billy's own foolishness and points out why it doesn't work. With a psychologist it might end up looking like this:

Psych: "Think about your happiest moment in life... What did you feel?"

Billy: (Gives a speech that rivals Don Quixote's.)

Psych: "So what did you do there?"

Billy: "We burned our rival cult."

-So emotionally, the psychologist would have a hard time confronting such a difficult patient that doesn't understand logic. That goes for anybody that tries to argue with a loon... However if we pick a priest or a reverend, Billy might be a little more receptive of his ideas, because he seems credible enough. While he thinks that psychologists are "little devils that have lost the love of god and replaced that with the worship of reason".

Priest: "Jesus said, love thine enemy."

Billy: "So... that means I can't try to kill this man named, Carter?"

Priest: "... Yes."

Billy: "So what do I do to him?"

Priest: "Be friendly to him."

Billy: (Thinks for a moment...) "This is really so much to take in.... but I'll try because your voice is sanctioned by the will of God."

(The next day we see Billy hugging Carter and not letting him go.)

Billy: "I DO THIS FOR LOVE DAMN IT!"

Okay, having him see a priest of chaplain would work better, yes.

Also that scenario is amazingly hysterical.

He kind of takes the Bible literally... so it's the most powerful weapon that can be used against him.

I just decided to set up a little thing called "Billy's Hall of Insanity", this will add a little note on each page on what I did. I thought of making a list of every insane act that he would do, but even a small list of that is too much to write down. So noting each little page little by little would do better than making a COMPILATION OF HIS ENTIRE DIALOGUE that's filled with his madness.

BILLY'S HALL OF INSANITY

1 = Out-monstered a monster by the force of scripture and holy bullets.

2-3 = Threatened to kill his new mortal enemy/rival and made a sexist comment in front of his superior.

4 = Asks Mark what the hell was their problem.

5 = Prayed in the middle of a parking lot and called his partner, Mark, a heathen.

6 = Declared that there were demons in the Waste Management Building.

7 = Revealed that his family came from an ancient cult that worshiped Roman emperors and heroes.

8 = Ranted about the existence of the supernatural in front of his colleagues and his superior. (Admittedly this is his sanest moment to date.)

9 = Came armed with a flamethrower, hand grenades, and a knife.

Hey, what do you think of Gabriela feigning a vision from God to get Billy to behave in a given situation?

That may be a good idea.

It'll work unless Billy is more super-paranoid than usual. If that's the case then throw in some scripture, some other nonsense, and "Jesus saves not kills", then you'd get results. Oh, and I think Billy would think Gabriela is Joan of Arc resurrected from the dead if that were the case. Just be careful not to add any ideas such as "Military Conquest" or "Crusade" or even anything that would remotely cause trouble.

The burden you carry is great indeed, that is why I have decided that if you use this power inappropriately he will do some of the following:

Category 1 Disaster: Billy the Conqueror

"Everyday I see evils perpetuated by the masses of the wicked. Man has forgotten the glory of God and now lives in rebellion. All of that has to change with the advent of the holy forces of believers, we will stop this ongoing madness at all costs. Forget peace when the war of morality is constantly being waged in the streets. It is time for a crusade that will terminate all evil. We will establish the Kingdom of God here and now..."

-Decides to take over the world with fundamentalism.

Category 2 Disaster: Don Macklin

"Sometimes, in order for men to recognize their dependence on God, they must suffer His wrath. I will be their nightmare so they can wake up in a heavenly house that Jesus made for them..."

-Prepares a one-man crusade against anything he considers evil.

Category 3 Disaster: The Second Messiah

"Indeed, even in my birth certificate my father's name is 'God'. This could be a sign that I might be another Jesus. Maybe the world needs to be reminded that God is just willing to sacrifice His son twice for His people..."

-Done by convincing him he's the new Jesus.

Category 4 Disaster: Demon Hunter

"No wonder men cannot help but execute sinful acts, for it is not through their will that they do so. All God's creations were made to be good, and deep down man has a core that resembles the goodness of God..."

-He thinks that the world is infested by demons that are hiding in human flesh.

Category 5 Disaster: Wicked Machines

"Machines are evil. They deceive us with its efficiency. They control every aspect of our lives. Why have we created devices that can only serve to destroy our harmony with our souls? This is unacceptable..."

-Occurs when he is given the impression that monsters exist inside machines.

Category 6 Disaster: Sex is Evil

"From here on now, humanity will be a race of virgins..."

-Forget condoms, Billy is a one man birth control keeper.

It is still possible to make him snap out of it, but you'd have a harder time persuading him out of it.

-Well this is just a small list of what can a crazy can do. Don't underestimate his insanity...

Haven't decided on that yet.

Well, I can just handwave that the hospital transferred to the B5 floor level.

Would he try to attack Fiona? If he hurts her at all, you'll likewise discover Carter is not to be underestimated.

"Did you know I sniped someone's head at 1550 meters? Just...puttin' it out there..."

Not unless he's made her his mortal enemy. Carter's job is to act as a diversion for Billy to focus all his attention on him. He won't attack her at all when he's busy thinking about getting back at Carter. And since both of your are close, would he try to attack Fiona? No, because once he's sworn on an enemy he would divert all his thinking into you. A note to Wysp, keep conversation to a minimum, because he's... too insane. Not even the Joker from Batman would be pleased to meet him.

Here's a dangerous note: Billy may be delusional but he can be resourceful and cunning when he's sufficiently motivated. As the author of that character there's a reason why I called him my "literary Frankenstein", it's because... even I fear him.

Note: Hmm, maybe it's about time I update my Theories of the Paranormal work.

A note for you Nick: This is the list of possibilities that could happen if Carter would engage Billy in a fight. This is only my opinion...

1. Hand-to-hand = Carter wins, he was formally trained in the military while Billy had to develop most of his own. Carter would have the edge when it comes to speed and strength, but Billy has the upper hand when it comes to unusual moves.

2. Knife = Billy wins, that's his primary specialty. Carter may have military training but Billy has constantly been using that against his enemies and keeps on practicing with them.

-Especially hard because Billy carries them everywhere. Avoid trying to fight him directly at all. You can snipe him though, but I wouldn't know if the police would like it... Even Billy respects the police in some measure, but he thinks they are "Puppets of the devil, honorable humans but they are controlled by heathens."

3. Gun (Accuracy) = Carter wins, he's a crack shot. While Billy is only a fair shot with them.

-Carter could snipe the hell out of Billy any time and any day even if he's paranoid 'cause you notice a sniper that's a mile away until you have a bullet in your head.

4. Gun (Drawing) = Carter wins... military duh.

-Works wonders if Billy decides to challenge Carter like in the Western movies.

5. Other Equipment = Billy wins, he's armed to the teeth and carries many illegal weapons. Some of them are designed to explode upon being discovered so be careful...

-All in all, Carter would fare well in a fight against conventional foe. But Billy is not conventional in any way, but even the fanatic would have a hard time fighting against the warrior.

Put it this way, Fanatic versus Warrior or Crazy versus Awesome.

Yeah... I got no idea on that part yet.

Anyway after this case is closed (It's almost done), we'll have a timeskip before the next urban legend case.

Storm came, internet now is painfully slow, can't participate.

Where did Fiona's R Per go?

Double post to announce that I have to leave for Hong Kong and Shanghai tomorrow, the latter part is just to get away from the upcoming APEC summit with strict security measures in place.

Which means my posts can be limited.

I'll be fine, I have a lot of other things to do anyways. Hey, tell us about your adventures there when you're done. Wild bar fights, secret government conspiracies, spy thrillers, and plot twists!

There may be a point in time that I could get permanent revocation of access to the net by my dad. Hopefully it doesn't happen before the RP is either finished or dead.
