This trope seems to be about two different tropes thanks to the two opening paragraphs. The first paragraph is about the sacrifices a creator or actor makes during the production of a work. So there's entries about how much pain the actors in the Godzilla suits had to go through, Frank Sinatra breaking his hand during a fight scene, or actors in Doctor Who suffering injuries that turned up on the show.

Then you have the second paragraph, which about how the sacrifices made during production create a sense of irony for the viewers. Some examples include; Gene Simmons flying around on cables when he's afraid of heights, Marc Summers getting messy when he hosted Double Dare when he has severe OCD, and Hayao Miyazaki making films that star children and neglecting his own kids in the process.

It's all over the place and I think that this trope would benefit if it was focused on one or the other.
