The screenwriter went into full Dear Negative Reader mode about the film flopping.

Because there's no original ideas!!!!

(Guess he didn't know how well financially Boyhood, Birdman, Whiplash, Inside Out, etc etc.)

Then attacked Rotten Tomatoes.

Is this a bitching thread or a general movie thread? Because we're not really allowed to have the former.

I'm actually interested in seeing this movie, at least for Kristen Stewart.

OP, it's best to change your post so that we can focus more on the movie and less on the stupid shit that guy said.

Otherwise, I'm gonna ask for this to be locked.

That was not Dear Negative Reader. That wasn't even really a rant (that website seems to be going just for clickbait). He was just expressing an opinion that even though American Ultra is a moderately well-reviewed original movie (it got 48% on RT), it still lost to Sinister 2 (12%) and Hitman 47 (a whopping 8%, lower even than Fan4stic). He doesn't seem to be blaming anybody, only saying that a reboot and a sequel made more money than his original film.

As for the movie itself: I really liked it. Kristen Stewart was definitely the best part of the movie, although Jesse Eisenberg was pretty good as a stoner who doesn't know he was an assassin.

I'm surprised there was no American Ultra thread to begin with.

My dad liked it, and since our tastes line up for the most part I guess I check it out. Plus I liked Chronicle and Max Landis' the The Sleep and Return of Superman
