I don't quite think that fits the intent of the trope...it feels like it belongs somewhere else, but not here.

That image is a classic illustration of Bound and Gagged, and not much else. What about an image of hospital restraint?

[up] If we can't find anything from a work, that'll do fine, especially with a good caption.

This trope is more like being committed to a psychiatric hospital for their own safety or a Suicide Watch.

Is this obvious enough that he's locked up for his own good?

The OP pic is good for Bound and Gagged if anywhere.

[up][up]The pentagram on the floor actually makes me think he's being used for some sort of Human Sacrifice ritual or something along those lines.

I'll vote for 3. It shows that the restraint is for safety reasons.

I think 3 is the clearest suggestion so far.

Let's go ahead and run with 3. Caption or no?

[tdown] I don't see a favorite yet. The trope is about more than just being Strapped to an Operating Table. As I see it, it's a softer form of Kill the Ones You Love (you could call it Restrain The Ones You Love) and should depict a character being restrained by allies.

Well, doctors would certainly have the best of intentions for their patient, but that they're not exactly "allies" is a fair point.

[up]The point of the trope is that the character is restrained for their own good. I don't think it's necessary to have the character's friends/allies doing it. In fact, a lot of examples has the restraining done by medical professionals, and I'm not just referring to the RL folder.

I agree that 3 is still good enough and the trope is not about "allies" but is about "for your own good"

How is #3 indicative of "for your own good"?

You mean other than the hospital bed, the fact that the subject is in a hospital gown, and the position is specifically designed so the subject cannot hurt himself?

Implication that it's done for the patient's comfort helps. Which I can at least infer from the image.

The Wonder Woman pic has following components:
  • Restrained
  • By allies
but it's missing the "for your own good" component (perhaps as a caption, if we knew what the scene was about)

[up]I think the "for your own good" part is much more important than the "by allies" aspect of the trope.
