Does Not Illustrate: The Hashshashin

The image is from an Aarabic translation of De Materia Medica by Dioscorides.

While the two guys discussing herbs could totally be assassins, ninjas, or drug-lords, it's more likely that they're herbalists. I'd like to suggest the first Hashshashin grandmaster Hassan-i Sabbah◊ or a shot of the Masyaf castle◊ from Assassin's Creed (one without the game's trademark, fictional flags).

The current is relying on the caption, for sure. The guy on the horse isn't bad; the castle would rely on a caption as well.

1.1 seems workable, but 1.2 looks just like a generic castle.

The first and third are pretty cool.

Those definitely show the assassin origin better.

3.3 maybe for me.

I'd say 3.1 is ok, as the crusader in the background isn't fighting the Hashshashin; not 3.2 as it's from some iteration of Lord of the Rings; and not 3.3, as the guy has Ubisoft iconography on his belt.

Found another that looks good◊ by this artist.

I don't see why the guy sporting a Ubisoft logo would matter. The Hashshashin were featured in Assassin's Creed, and considering that this is a trope, I thought it'd be good to put a suggestion from a specific work, rather than just random standalone images.

Overlooked that we have a UsefulNotes.The Hashshashin article, so... I'm OK with any of the other suggestions.

Would the current fit on the UN page? Since it's a page about their historical origin, a historical picture seems appropriate.

Moving the current to the UN page would work for me.

I support the movie to Useful Notes; undecided on the various replacements.

3.3 is fine

I don't mind the current image being on the UN image. But in that case, is it alright to use the full-sized version of the pic (as linked in the OP)? The crop in the current pic looks odd to me.

I disagree! The current image is completely unrelated to assassins, it's from a medieval Herbalism manuscript!

Either 3.3 or 3.1 work for me.

Ok, I'll go with 3.3. for the trope page.

For Useful Notes, here's an example of an Arabic textbook drawing◊ and a European print◊ of the Hashashin at work.

Hmmm, the first one shows the "Middle East" part more clearly, but the page looks smudged and confusing. The second one shows the assassination better... so I guess I'll go with that.

The Arabic pic would look great if there wasn't a section torn out that obscures the person being assassinated. With that, I'll go for the European print.

We're getting ahead of ourselves, given we haven't picked an image for the trope page yet. Crowner for that with all the fictional and artwork examples offered so far.
