Suggestion: Homage Shot

Opening suggestion: Supernatural homaging The Shining.

I kinda see it but it's weak enough that I'm not gonna give it a solid right away.

I see two guys sitting at a bar. Jack Nicholson's face notwithstanding, it looks like a totally generic shot.

Yes, a bit too generic for my understanding.

I find it rather weak and generic, but it's at least better than nothing.

Ok, then. Scarier example: Star Wars redoing shots from Triumph of the Will◊.

That's much better.

Here's that example stacked vertically. Ironically, in that shot they're being rewarded by the Rebel Alliance, not The Empire.

The resemblance seems coincidental.

We essentially need something that is known to have been done as an homage per Word of God for this to work.

I think the Triumph of the Will/Star Wars pic works pretty well. The composition of the two shots is almost identical, and the scale is large enough that you'd assume the resemblance was intentional.

Maybe if we composed it of more than one homage◊ to show that it's more than a coincidence? I also agree with ^ that the shot is quite elaborate to be incidental.

That other◊ shot◊ looks better, but the whole thing is too small, might as well make it a square and add one from TRON: Legacy too.

If I can find a bigger version, would the Last Supper shot◊ from Negima!? (second season) work?

Yes, they do; that's pretty cool.

Technically, I don't see how comics fit under this trope, but that's more a function of the description than anything else.

The only question this leaves in me is whether there might, MIGHT, be another trope that the Popeye suggestion might fit under. If not, I think this would be a fine place for it, as long as the description gets tweaked.

It's an homage to Superman's first appearance. Might need the original for context, but it's much more clearly an homage than any of the other suggestions.

It's a reference to the first comic to feature Superman.

A combo with those would probably be best. It's a very specific shot that isn't just accidentally copied.
