It looks like the only thing that really sets Rescued From Purgatory apart is that it seems to require the person to be dead, while Orphean Rescue does not. But since even the troper named for Orphean Rescue involves the person being dead, I think that's not really enough of a distinction to justify keeping both tropes. I'd support merging Rescued From Purgatory into Orphean Rescue.

Agreed, merge.
Yes, and I think Rescued From Purgatory should be the name of the merged trope. "Orphean" as an adjective is a little obtuse and unsearchable, not to mention the minor fact that Orpheus failed in the end.
Agreed. I think Orphean Rescue suffers from a Trope Namer Syndrome, and doesn't make much sense without prior knowledge of the Orpheus/Euridice story. (And even though I did know about that myth, I still can't make the immediate connection by that name alone).

I think Orphean Rescue could be a redirect.
Alright, see my merge proposal sandboxed at Rescued From The Underworld. The description is the best of both worlds. Examples are merged already.
For me Purgatory is a suboptimal term. That's why I suggest Rescued from the Underworld instead. It would rid us of the last paragraph that currently serves as a disclaimer for the use of Purgatory. Why the need to get us into trouble in the first place? There are only 35 links to change for Rescued From Purgatory, and Orphean Rescue will receive a redirect anyway.

What merge option do people prefer?
- Option 1:
- Create new merged trope page called Rescued From The Underworld
- Move all 25 wikilinks from Rescued From Purgatory there and cut the page.
- Make Orphean Rescue a redirect to Rescued From The Underworld.
- Option 2:
- Merge this trope under Rescued From Purgatory.
- Include the paragraph why Purgatory is actually not such a good trope name.
- Make Orphean Rescue a redirect to Rescued From Purgatory.
- Option 3:
- Merge this trope under Orphean Rescue.
- Move all 25 wikilinks from Rescued From Purgatory there and cut the page.

Option 1.
Option 1
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickFirst option seems best.
Alright, I could do the relinking and cut list entry for Rescued From Purgatory. But I will need a mod to add the redirect from Orphean Rescue.
I agree that the first option seems best.
+1 for option 1.
for option 1
Count my vote for Option 1
Option 1 has it. Proceed.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dickthe sandbox draft seems complete, is it being moved to main and the two names as redirects?
OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!Roll-out report:
- Rescued from the Underworld is live
- Migration of wikilinks from Rescued From Purgatory complete
- Rescued From Purgatory is cut (not sure why it's not showing red though)
- All indices previously linking to Orphean Rescue now relinked to Rescued from the Underworld
- Mod tasks:
- Remove content from Orphean Rescue and make it a redirect to Rescued from the Underworld.
- Cut following redirects to Orphean Rescue (all leaving 0 red links)

Great job!
Rescued From Purgatory is showing as blue because there's this page: Sandbox/RescuedFromPurgatory.

We need a final Mod action to authorize the redirect from Orphean Rescue.
Sidenote: Can somebody explain why the cut request for Katabasis was declined?
Mods do not need to authorise redirects.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick^^I declined that cut request because we don't remove alternate title redirects just so; I need a reason.

We had a discussion on Lost & Found about Orphean Rescue and Rescued From Purgatory being much alike and the suggestion was made to bring it here for discussing a merge. Rescued From Purgatory was probably created without the knowledge of Orphean Rescue, it seems slightly more specific about the the lost character being dead in purgatory, while Orphean Rescue is more open to the condition of the victim and their location (all otherworldly places count). Rescued From Purgatory has few enough examples and cross-wicks to dump the trope altogether.
Opinions?
