Big deal. Utrom sounds cooler.

they're small, pink blob aliens that pilot human-looking robotic exoskeletons from the abdominal area. 2003!Shredder would call them Utroms, 2012!Shredder would call them Kraangs based on the names the aliens go by in their respective universes.

both of them look at Movie!Shredder and go "who the devil is Eric Sachs!?"

[up][up][up][up]Yes, they are called Utroms in the Mirage Comics and 2003 show. The alien race in the 2012 show are called Kraang.

However they are completely different in terms of personality as Utroms are the more peaceful race who rather advance humanity in technology then enslave them. Where the Kraang are the run of the mill alien invaders.

Insisting the squid aliens in the 2012 cartoon are Utroms will be like insisting that Spock is a Romulan or Bruce Lee is Korean.

Also, this is 2012 Shredder point of view. The aliens he encounter are Kraang, and the 2003 Shredder personality is very akin to the Kraang.

My impression was that they're called the Kraang instead of Utroms in the 2012 show because the creators of that really wanted to make their own version of the 80's show, as much as possible. Which is also why they're hostile and explicitly extradimensional.

From what I think, 80's Mumm-Ra would be blown away by and praising how much of a Complete Monster his 2011 counterpart is. However, reboot Mumm-Ra wouldn't be too impressed by the other's evilness.

80's Mumm-Ra: So you wiped out an entire solar system destroying all intelligent life in the process?! *laughs maniacally* What a delightfully evil deed! With such a horrible and wicked mind such as yours, we can destroy the Thundercats once and for all!!! *laughs once again, except longer*
2011 Mumm-Ra: And YOU know what evil is all about? Please. You can't even go beyond such petty drivel like wrecking Cat's Lair.
