The Sword In The Stone is another Disney animated feature to be getting a live action remake. http://io9.com/oh-god-now-the-sword-in-the-stone-is-getting-a-live-ac-1719116100

Gee, what's next? A live-action version of Robin Hood, populated by photorealistic CGI animals?

On second thought, The Sword in the Stone is one of the few Disney movies that I think actually kind of warrant a remake — in that it's a movie with a solid concept, but a mostly drab execution. So I guess I kind of... don't hate this? It's a strange feeling.

Then again, it might be worth it just to hear all the Discworld fans in the audience say "Personally, I'm more impressed by whoever put the sword in that rock in the first place." ;P

Princess Aurora is underrated, pass it on.

Still waiting on a live-action Black Cauldron. I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed it, so I'd like to see them come back and make it really good.

Sword in the Stone is another underrated favorite, and definitely something that could be tweaked a little and might actually benefit from a remake. These kinds of older Disney movies are the ones they need to capitalize on and revisit, not the mainstream stuff people already love to death.

[up]While I at least don't rememeber watching Black Cauldron, I wouldn't mind seeing that get a remake that improved upon the original.

I don't think this is a a bad idea for a remake, but I'm still bitter about the excess of Disney Live Action remakes that are coming out. It's getting ridiculous.

Honestly, I like this idea more than the "Disney Princess" movies because The Sword in the Stone had a very episodic structure to begin with. The Wizard Duel between Merlin and Madam Mim in particular has the potential to be awesome.

Have Merlin turn the girl squirrel into a human and let that be Guinevere, and I am fucking sold.

They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!

The squirrel romance and heartbreak is going to look weird in live-action.

That one might actually not a bad idea...they could stick closer to the book this time around.

Yeah, of all the live actions projects this one is the least weird. Sword and the Stone could always have used something like this - a bit more love in some way, and while I get the impression the reasons behind them are a bit similar the live action remakes tend to be better than the cheapquels so that's a step up.

Christopher Lloyd for Merlin, please.

Insert my standard "Muh CHILDHOOD!!!!" rant here.

Seriously, there's nothing wrong, or much wrong, with the original animated adaptation of the T.H. White book. I think this remake is pointless as an artistic piece, but as usual with the House of Darth Mickey, it's all about the Benjamins.

I hope they don't retool Mim into a big, grand Big Bad type and center the plot around her being Merlin's Evil Counterpart or something. One of the reasons Mim is one of my favorite Disney villains is the unorthodox role she has in the plot (she's also Affably Evil in a way you very rarely see).

I wouldn't say the original Sword In The Stone was bad or anything like that. It just kinda got shuffled away with the rest of Disney's stuff at the time, with Merlin being the one stand-out thing to keep it notable.

[up][up]Same here.

[up]Madame Mim also became fairly popular in European Disney comics, especially when appearing alongside Magica De Spell.

Morgana (or Morgan) Le Fay is a powerful enchantress that is one of Morgause's sisters.

She is often a Composite Character with Morgause, though and in some versions gives birth to Mordred.
