Poor Image: Useful Notes.World War II

There are a lot of color photos and even color video from WWII, so a new collage would be simple make.

For recreating it: the top◊, upper left◊, upper right◊, lower left◊, & lower right◊. Of course, it could be something different if that's what people want.

...and not all the sub-pages have pictures, but they may require their own thread(s).

Here's a remake of the current... and it looks like the image upload isn't changing file-names to a random number anymore, nice.

Definite improvement with colour.

I'd flip the concentration camp and A-bomb pics around so it's a straight match with the current but otherwise that looks great.

3/5 of the pix are in Germany and that bugs me, I'd rather redo the thing with extra rows to show USA, Russian, German, Japanese, and Chinese examples, if not more — not sure how well they'll fit.

The sub-pages are so long that I don't think they'd warrant a collage, the top plus each folder could fit an image. UsefulNotes.The Holocaust has photos so far, but that's about it.

If want to show more of the Pacific Theatre, Iwo Jima would be an obvious pick.

The problem with trying to fit in more Pacific Theatre stuff is that there aren't an awful lot of famous photos from the Sino-Japanese War. In fact, I don't think there are any.

That said, some photo of one of the U.S. battles, like the stuff on Okinawa or in the Philippines, would surely be better than the generic Nazi parade stuff? That's not very... warr-y.

Nazi parade stuff seems like an important element of WWII. I know it happened before, too, but red-white-and-black swastika flags and goose-stepping German troops is pretty emblematic of the war.

Well, people planting tending harvesting and processing crops (and tending to animals) were undoubtedly the most activities which allowed the prosecution of the war.

But that's a bit boring, and kind of a given in any human conflict. Same goes for all the other products necessary to fight it, ultimately including the political climate.

The various city bombing campaigns are probably well represented by the mushroom cloud. Nothing of the Wehrmacht in there as is, however.

Maybe it'd be easiest to just stick to what wikipedia has (plus colour)?

I think it's fine as is, although I'd still prefer panels 3 and 4 to be swapped so it's a match to the current's layout.

Yeah, I think we need one image to represent the Pacific war more (besides the nuke cloud).

Is USS Bunker Hill on fire after being hit by kamikazes◊ iconic enough?

Edit: The rasing of flag on Iwo Jima would be a better picture, but I can't find any colored pic :/

Here's the Iwo Jima flag in color◊, not a great shot however.

I'm also for changing some pictures to more inclusive of the rest of the war. As is, it's Europe, Asia, Europe, Europe, Europe. Others have already mentioned Iwo Jima, what about pictures from North Africa? Pearl Harbor? The Rape of Nanking?
