In the beginning, there was the universe, both singular and twain.

Then, the great hand opened, and existence burst forth in every direction conceivable. Matter and its opposite number burst from the same source, and blazed their own trails, separate, but never as distant as they might have liked. Time began paving its long road down the hallways of forever, marking junctions at uncertain probability, sometimes looping back and changing course, but never standing still for long. Space spread further than any one being could ever cross, no matter their lifetime, before somehow deciding this wasn’t enough, and proceeding to layer itself in dimensions and cram its pockets in miniature realities, until finally erecting arbitrary walls to mark where its stories must end.

And stories there were. Stories within and without stories. Stories too brief to percieve, and stories that stretched on without ever truly concluding, or even beginning. In these stories, life and consciousness unfolded, to play their part and to bear witness. Life drew itself from nothing as hard as it could, and came to ends both gradual and instant. Civilisations rose and fell. Old gods lived and died. Ideologies clashed over and over again. Mere mortals rose up to fight for themselves, their people, their concepts, and even fundamental forces of the universe.

Of course, that is not to say there were not things beyond even this. Beings that came before, or came from outside, found their way into this creation. They were alone, and they were alien, but in time, they found their roles to play. Sometimes for creation, but often for destruction. A being that came before was given another chance at life, and over the millennia, it found its niche in devouring worlds, one by one. A singularity was divided and compressed into a collection of precious objects, whereupon a gathering of the eldest among races saw fit to claim them. Over the span of life, these stones would form consciousness, and become receptacles of emotion. Eventually, these forces, and their emotion, would become the basis of the greatest armies to ever patrol their known galaxies.

But for now, let us descend upon one of these galaxies. A galaxy simply known as the Milky Way. Within this galaxy is held a multitude of races, with infinite variations, and countless stories of their own. As is typical, every world generally thinks their stories are the only ones that matter. But if you look closer, you might see these stories start to connect, and merge together, into a tale of epic scope…and unthinkable consequences…

Frame-less heads on nameless walls, with eyes that watch the world and can't forget…

Yes, that’s right, another one. Welcome, one and all, to a spinoff of that goliath in TV Tropes Forum RPG’s, the Justice Avengers franchise. So, for those of you who don’t know, (and were probably a bit put off by that self aggrandisation, heh heh) this little game is one that not only blends together the universes of Marvel and DC comics, but completely revamps the pair of them. Take what you like from the world, and be as free as you like in remoulding it to your will. It doesn’t matter if you’re the biggest comic newbie there is. By the time we’re through with you, you’ll know the Big Two Comics like the back of your calves!

Now, in this particular variant, when we say we blend the universes, we're really blending the universes. Alien races, alternate dimensions, high fantasy and low sci-fi is being reaped from the Marvel and DC comic verses, mixed together and seasoned to make something new. If you’ve got your eye on a character that’s a bit too ‘out there’ for the streets of Jump City or New York, then take them here to the stars, and let them play out this space opera ’til the fat zamaron sings.

Note: To anyone expressing an interest in Green Lantern characters, or characters relating to Green Lantern in some way; in creating this game, I have taken the opportunity to revamp the Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum, ironing out inconsistencies, and tying the colours closer to what might be considered actual emotions, while at the same time allowing the original characters to play their parts. To save space, the new Emotional Spectrum can be found here.

Note: A few characters that would’ve been associated with cosmic are currently being used in other spinoffs. These characters include Rocket Raccoon, Star Lord, Spiral and Mister Knife. If we realise any others are taken elsewhere, they’ll be added to the list too.

Now for some ground rules on characters in general. This being a crossover RP of sorts, players are required to select a pre-existing character to play. This means no fandom characters, and really, just about any character trait you can think of has, in all likelihood, been covered. However, this being a reboot world, you may reboot and reinvent your character however you see fit. I recommend you check out this guy, this guy and these guys for demonstrations of a reboot done right. Also, be careful that your character isn't already taken. Check the other Sign-Up threads (included below) or ask around to see if a character's being used, OR if that character can't be picked up by someone else.

If you like, I MAY allow a small team of superheroes/villains. But this group must be reasonably small in number, and so cohesive and suited to each other they are almost one entity. These instances will be taken on a case-by-case basis, though members of teams such as the Brotherhood of Evil or the Frightful Four are not unwelcome.

Note: As the GM, I, and any co-GMs I may enlist, reserve the right to select characters as NPCs. If you were hoping to play that character at some point, then I apologise in advance. BUT, I may see fit to pass the character onto a successor, or at the very least, you might be able to play an Expy of said character.

All that aside, general rules of conduct apply. No godmodding, no autohitting, no meta knowledge, and no generally being an arsehole. Hope you enjoy!

• Alignment: Good.
• Personality: She is very, very naive, but that shouldn't be confused as stupidity as she is also very smart. A never give up type. Very loyal and as a flaw willing to love everyone even when she will not be loved back. Although she is hard to get angry she can be full representation of what happens when heart is broken.
  • As a hopless idealist, She was the one that convinced her mother, Queen Aga'po of giving the sapphire that chose Carol Ferris, known among the sapphires as "the one that wasn't loved", for her to have a chance to experience love. Despite Carol's rampage on Jump city, she saw a capability of love in her unlike any other, she still has hope that love will thriump, for Carol, in the end.

• Powers :
  • As a Zamaron, even without her sapphire, her body naturally generates and absorbs love energy, but she is stronger with her sapphire.
  • Flight (Faster than light due to travel in space)
  • The ability to trap people on crystals as a prison.
  • Generate a protective aura and shields.Altough the more concentration/energy is needed the more powerful the attack they can protect her from all types of attacks and harm, including magical.
  • Create violet light constructs.
  • She can detect when a love is in jeopardy, locate it, and then create a connection to the embattled heart that can be used as a tether.
  • A deep connection with people's hearts, including being able to show others their greatest love,
  • Teleportation.
  • Universal translation via her sapphire
  • Database: Similar to lantern ring her sapphire acts as computer including the ability to analyses external data.
  • Shapphire overcharge. (New Star sapphire power) When she uses this power, she would be both at her strongest and at her weakest.She would be able to overcharge her powers similar to blue lantern/green combo, by channeling some of the love energy from living beings around her. But the process of catering the energy takes precious time and leaves her unable to defend herself. (But if the love energy is being given giving willingly to her it can provide even more energy).
  • Healing powers (New Star sapphire power) : channeling the power of love would give her the power to heal wounds.
  • Restore the recently deceased to life by drawing power from the heart of one that loves them.
• Weapons and Equipment:
• A sapphire gemstone that merged with her body in Hammerspace but can be removed.
  • Guardian of an Infinity Game("Maybe?"). She wouldn't use it, just protect it. Just as saint walker guarding the soul game. But rather as the current champion of love her duty would be to guard it with her life. For the sapphires this would represent the idea that for love there are no barriers.
• Abilities:
• She was trained on ancient martial arts from the Zamaron tribe.
  • Expert in ancient weaponry ( bows, swords etc... Though generally construct versions)
  • Some basic knowledge using technology like piloting spaceships.

• Origin:

The only daughter of Queen Aga'po , princess of the Zamarons and current holder of the purely honorary title "champion of love".

The title was given to her, similarly to to the title Wonder Woman was given to Diana, after proving her capability for love, by the other Zamarons.

Unfortunately, Queen Aga'po herself prohibited from ever leaving their planet. To make matters worst the idea of love of the Zamarons has been corrupted, including some of them outright trapping people on love crystals ( like Carol Ferris is doing on Jump City) to avoid the pains of a love being lost (selfishness).

Disobeying her mother's direct others and as her quest to earn the true meaning of love, as In her heart she knew that the zamaron's idea of love is wrong

She ran away from home, her planet and her old life. Her mission is best described in her oath:

Long ago, an alien race was being persecuted by a race of demons. Unable to find a place to hide, they decided to leave the universe altogether and moved into the Microverse. Using an artifact called The Sword in the Star, they created a barrier between the universes. But this wall had to be propped on both sides. With the Sword, they created two semisentient forces for this purpose: The Enigma Force on their side, and the Uni-Power on ours.

The Uni-Power has no permanent host: rather it chooses one to perform a mission and grants it its powers and knowledge of the mission, then withdraws them after they are finished (or if they abuse the power.)

A few years ago, the Uni-Power foresaw a terrible disaster on Earth that would be caused by an out-of-control physics experiment. It chose a boy named Stevie to be its host for this mission. Stevie had always been a fan of superheroes and had even designed a character he called " Captain Universe". He was more than elated to having been suddenly granted the chance to become one! Unfortunately, the reality-endangering crisis proved to be more than he could handle. Still, with one last, heroic sacrifice, Stevie saved the world, at the cost of his own life.

Since then, in honor of his noble sacrifice, the Uni-Power has always granted not just power but the very identity of Captain Universe to those it elects.

(Note: this last part isn't canon, I made it up to explain the character's name and costume. Also, the name Stevie is a reference to Steve Ditko, the artist who designed the character.)

Can I do that? Is that fine?

• Name: Captain Marvel

• Real Name: Freddy Freeman/Phyla-Vell

• Gender: Male/Female

• Age: Freddy is in his early teens, Phyla, by Earth standards, is in her mid twenties.

• Appearance: What Freddy looks like when not fused.◊ What Phyla looks like when not fused.◊ When Freddy says "Shazam" on the left, when Phyla says "Shazam" on the right.◊

• Alignment: Good

• Personality: Freddy is bookish and reserved, star-struck, for lack of a better word, by the strange new world he has found himself in. The longer he stays, though, the more time he has had to get adjusted to his new life, and to appreciate its benefits, getting a bit of swagger in his step.

Phyla-Vell is all business, always trying to impress, due to the enormous responsibility she feels she bears, both as Captain Marvel, and as Mar-Vell's daughter. She's not too happy around Freddy, though, both frustrated by the fact that she needs him to stay alive, and by how....nice he is. So she tends to give him a hard time.

Captain Marvel is everything that both of them want to be: Fearless, selfless, bold, unshakable in his/her resolve, and compassionate. A "hero" in every traditional sense. When they can get along.

• Powers and Abilities: Both versions of Captain Marvel exhibit superhuman strength, speed, and senses, as well as extreme resistance to damage, flight, heightened intelligence (Which Freddy calls "The Wisdom of Solomon", but Phyla insists is just cosmic awareness), and the ability to generate a field that allows him/her to survive in the void of space, as well as fire energy blasts. When Freddy is in charge, they look like lightning. When Phyla runs the show, they're uniform beams.

Freddy's Captain Marvel is slightly stronger and more durable, while Phyla's is faster and can create very basic hard light constructs, as well as absorb and redirect energy fired at her.

However, when they are separate, Freddy is a rail-thin teenager with weak bones and Phyla has a blood disease.

• Weapons and Equipment: Because of the frailty of Freddy's bones, he requires an exoskeleton suit◊ to freely move around. The suit lets Freddy move at a top speed of 15 mph, and can lift a maximum of 500 lbs.

Similarly, Phyla relies on an oxygen mask and an intravenous tube setup to fight the poisoning in her blood.

But most important are Freddy and Phyla's Zam-Bands. A pair of wristbands that allow Freddy and Phyla to combine their atoms and energies into Captain Marvel.

• Origin: Phyla-Vell was a Kree with her whole life ahead of her. With incredible powers, she dreamed of soaring the cosmic winds, being a hero for the entire galaxy, like Mar-Vell. But just as she was getting ready for her future, she contracted a very rare and dangerous Kree blood disease that crippled her powers and threatened her life. She clung to life for years as the best medics of the Kree homeworld tried to restore her to health. But as they tried futilely to heal Phyla, her grandfather had a more radical idea.

Zam-Vell was a brilliant, if extremely eccentric scientist. As he watched the so-called finest minds of his people fail to save his granddaughter's life, he had to do something drastic. Zam-Vell had always theorized that, since all that existed in creation had been made from the same constituent particles, that two beings could be brought together to create a superior whole. So Zam searched all the cosmos in an attempt to find Phyla's universal compliment. He found that compliment on the strange planet Earth in the guise of an elderly man.

Freddy Freeman was a nobody. Smart, kind, caring, yes. But between his physical weaknesses and his status as an orphan, it was hard for Freeman not to feel...useless. Unimportant. Even his friends, Billy and Mary Batson could not raise his spirits. He considered taking his life. Until a mysterious old man asked him if he wanted to live. If he wanted to be something greater. A hero. Desperate for any way to escape his miserable life, Freddy gladly accepted. In a flash of light, Freddy was transported halfway across the universe. And with a single word, Zam-Vell saved two lives.

• Appearance: The good old days,◊ and the terrifying present.◊
• Alignment: Evil (Unwilling)
• Personality: He was once a kind man possessing an indomitable will who yearned to spread knowledge across the galaxies, and to protect the innocent. However, his recent forced employment has turned him into a jaded, tired and cynical creature, prone to incessant brooding and self-deprecation. Abin Sur's calm demeanor still exists, which can be seen when he calmly tells others that Thanos has decreed their deaths. This act, which he sees as kindness, has earned him bad fame all throughout the galaxy.
• Powers and Abilities:
  • Power Cosmic: Not only does Abin Sur has his body covered in a silver-y material and a nifty board, but the Power Cosmic gives him many other abilities, such as
    • Energy Absorption and Manipulation: The Surfer can absorb, manipulate and discharge energy of almost the entire electromagnetic spectrum at incredible levels.
    • Invulnerability: The Surfer's body is protected from punches, bullets and rays- although this protection is not permanent, and eventually even the sturdiest of rocks will break once enough damage has been made to it.
    • Superhuman: His strength, speed and senses have been amplified to match that of Earth's mightiest and finest. He does not need to eat or breathe too, as he obtains sustenance by absorbing cosmic energy.
    • Cosmic Sense: The Surfer has certain cosmic-energy enhanced perceptions which enable him, through concentration, to become aware of the patterns of energy all around him.
• Weapons and Equipment:
  • Cosmic Surfboard: When flying, the Surfer uses a construct which resembles an earthly surfboard. This "board" is made with the same silvery material that composes the Surfer's body, and is psionically linked with the Surfer's mind in some unknown fashion, following his commands instantly.
• Origin:
  • Abin Sur was born on the planet Ungara, and there lived into his early adult years, when he became a history professor. One day, he was chosen to become the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814, a job which he accepted with a big, bright smile, ready to make sure that none of the planets under his jurisdiction would ever live another day in fear. He performed his duty perfectly for a century and a few more decades, until a close call with a Kree ship cost him his life, forcing him to perform an emergency landing on Earth, where his ring found a new Green Lantern. Unfortunately, that was Abin Sur's last act, and his body was left on a casket wandering amongst the stars just like he always wanted.
  • At least that was supposed to be the end of his tale.
  • His body became the target of many bounty hunters and was passed from galactic billionaire to galactic billionaire for many years, before it was forcefully recovered by Thanos. The mad titan had recently lost his enforcer on a quest to unlock the secret of a power thought to be long lost- the Power Cosmic. And Thanos saw it fit to use this power, now in his hands, to create the perfect immortal enforcer. Through a painful procedure which went against every law of reality, Abin Sur was brought back to life, but now as a different creature.
  • Although the Power Cosmic is astounding and could help him do so much more than what he did when he was a Green Lantern, it comes with a small caveat: it belongs to Thanos, and as such so does he. If he goes against Thanos' will, then he loses the Power Cosmic and returns to being a dead, decrepit body. Thanos wanted Abin Sur to be his newest enforcer: to punish those who betrayed the titan, to reward those who helped him, to spread his hand over every galaxy so that every child, man, woman or elder would hear his name and tremble. Initially, Abin Sur rejected the offer, but all Thanos had to do was show him how easily he had been forgotten, how the new Green Lantern had shadowed him, how his brothers and sisters in the Corps had disconnected from him. With tearful eyes and a broken heart, Abin Sur accepted the offer and abandoned his name, adopting the moniker of 'Silver Surfer'.
  • Under this new name, Abin Sur quickly became a feared figure in the galaxy. He would go to cities and tell them what Thanos needed, only to obliterate the housing sectors with a stoic demeanor when they rejected the titan's demands. He would go after those who dared to betray his master and leave their bodies- whatever was left of them- as a warning. He would realize coups and assassinations to reward those who helped Thanos with lofty new positions. All that Abin Sur could do was do his master's bidding, watching the empty void of the universe consume him from the inside as the once beloved hero disappeared forever...

I'm using Saint Walker so reserved I guess. Waiting to see what we actually settle on for the emotion spectrum and infinity gems though.

@Strat: Maybe Abin Sur dieing and passing on the ring might be a little more recent. I remember having imply Sur only going missing since a little before Rocket first came to Earth.

Do you necessarily have to be a "Cosmic" character to play in the Cosmic game? There are plenty of characters that spend time in space without really being cosmic characters. Hulk, Kitty Pryde, Punisher had a solo series in space, Deadpool spent time in space, Iron Man.

I think Taskmaster would be super cool, and we could use more "normalish" people on this team :p

• Personality: Very pleasant and moral guy if he's not in the symbiote.
• Powers and Abilities: With the symbiote, he has enhanced strength and speed.
• Weapons and Equipment: None outside of the symbiote.
• Origin: Son of billionaires on the planet Zur-En-Arrh, his parents were killed in front of him at a young age. He always wanted to do something to try and combat crime in his city, but he never knew how.

Then one day an alien symbiote bonded with him and he was able to do things he could never do before. He now fights crime with it although he is careful to not wear it too long or it could take control of him.
