Shattered Reflections - A Mirror's Edge RP - Discussion Thread

Okay, got discussion thread up, and starting with the rules: Every character will have six stats, that will apply to most things when running.

• Fighting: the ability to stand your ground, hold your own and disarm aware enemies, which can also relate to upper or lower body strenght. Primary for Reds, secondary for Oranges.
• Sprinting: the ability to move as fast as you can. Primary for Yellows, secondary for Pinks.
• Resistance: How long you can push yourself without dropping. Primary for greens,secondary for purples.
• Coordination: How well you control your body and perceive it along with your enviroment. Primary for Pinks, secondary for Yellows.
• Technique: How well trained you are to perform the task ahead. Primary for Purples, secondary for Greens.
• Stress: How well can you can get out of difficult situations with quick bursts of adrenaline. Primary for Oranges, secondary for Reds.

Runner Slangs:

• Blues: the City Protection Force (CPF's), government police.

• Deadpoint: the moment that a Runner experiences at the arch of an jump where the Runner feels suspended in the air, neither rising nor falling.
  *The protagonist of the game, Faith Connors, says that she lives for this moment: "All you can see is the sky. All you can feel is the air and all you can hear is your own heartbeat."

• The Flow: the experience of the continued momentum they use to preform various parkour abilities to traverse the city. It is akin to how the Runners think the world itself works, always in motion and change.

• The Mirror’s Edge: a term Runners use to describe the state of their existence; "Between the gloss and the reality, the Mirror’s Edge".

• Tags: the usually black and geometric tattoos runners make to show their greatest achievements. The more Tags a Runner has, the more important deliveries he's made. Tags are very regulated between their underground community to avoid any kind of scams.

• Birds: how Runners usually refers to choppers.

• Eyes: cameras and other types of surveillance equipments, in general.

• Pieces: how Runners call their ear communicators.

• Trackers: experienced and retired Runners that use their knowledge to help and monitorate Runners on field.

• Packs: how Runners sometimes refer to the deliveries they make.

• Rats: corrupt politicians and corrupt people in general.

• Agent: how Oranges call their meele weapons.

• Fish: an old slang for rich and powerful people, is used only by old school Runners.

• The Lobby: The general frequency of the resistance to the government (88.7). It is mostly consisted of Runners that want to have contact and news from other Runners, jobs and factions.

• Edge: an stressful situation, often the ones with no easy way out.

• Citizen: how Runners refer to the average people, the ones that settles for comfort and security over freedom. It is because of the Citizenship Program, the one that started the November Riots and was put into action anyway after the protests went bad.

• Mirror: to call something a Mirror is to call it so surreal only the dulled majority of society in the City would agree. It is used to refer to what Runners think its outrageous, be it an official measure by the government or something more deep and off-records, such as the framing of the CPF.

Your Runners can be as into this slangs as you like them to, given there's some consistency. Also, everything below Trackers is non canon and created by me. More terms and slangs can be recommended to me and added later.

That's— A bit complex for an RP thread

I was more along the idea of the stats not giving a hard governor with which our character can act, but rather a guideline with which our character acts on

Since this is not exactly a videogame, but an RP thread

Well...I was actually a little inspired by tabletop RP Gs, since that was wherenthis RP came from, but I can't really play with out players, so...do you agree to just take all those numbers out?

All the status get more conceptual and interpretative, is that okay with you?

Aye, thats fine with me Boss. While I'm fine with using numbers if push comes to shove, I'm glad with the decision.

Mostly since if we are using numbers to run our decisions with, I feel that its rather restrictive in terms of things we would be able to RP with

Well, welcome Echo. So let's discuss about being a blue. One of the things I figured is that you probably won't use much Parkour, but that seems okay since you got your old credentials and chips. At least for the first few missions, specially with the surveillance servers out, you'll be able to pass trough street checkpoints, and even confiscate cars, bikes and maybe even boats or choppers to get where you are needed - that I've figured it'd be anyplace where anyone would need some securing, or when a distraction needs to be made.

Also, being able to hack police servers with more knowledge of it should at least get your Trackers free to monitorate other stuff, which is great. Any other roles you think Gabriel should be taking?

Being able to secure a location sounds good. Maybe some enforcer roles.

Okay...you'll be also able to carry more stuff, since you're not always running.
Gabriel looks more of an enforcer than a hacker to me...so let's change the status overview to a cop.
Fighting is hand to hand combat, oviously.
Sprinting is the same.
Resistance can make you carry more weight and take more damage
Coordination can measure how good you are with guns
Technique measures stealth and hacking, lockpicking, more thievish stuff
Stress can basically make you immune to damage for some time.

You should have a secondary and an primary stat, but Lena for example dumpet fighting stat and got her primary divided between resistance and technique, or I saw it that way at least. Anyway, waiting for our last player to start game thread.

Yeah, thats the way I see it. Foghting is her dump stat, while technique gains a boost

So, we spend points or what? I'm confused.

That is... interesting. I doubt Gabe would ever hsve to fight men with rocket launchers but it's a interesting idea.

>@Troy - you guys can know each other well enough to be already acquaintances, even presented to each other if you chose to do so, but never actually got to work with each other. Most probably Keat and Gabe got their fame spreaded so Lena know about it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Since the ambient is so important, you guys can do some world building as well on this RP. Any doubt's about the world can be asked here, and I'll ask for edits if if think the worldbuilding crossed some lines...other than that, enjoy the RP!

Troy, where exactly is Keaton at? Because 10 minutes ago he wasn't at the meeting point.

And there's more. Kreeg is an ex-Orange, and a very responsible Runner, if that even exists. You, as a PK, should know all about him, since he's one of the Runners that Project Icarus have more data on(the "traitor", Celeste, was also tracked by Drake).

Since I don't see what else to do, here's some maybe unintentional Meaningful Name trivia.
The choice of the name Lena is interesting and perfect because its a Swedish name, and Mirror's Edge origins are Swedish as well.
It's a version of Helena, or Helen, yes, like the one of Troy, so the Greek-roman naming subtheme is reinforced in this RP.
But not only that, it actually has meaning: like Faith, and another Runner characters who I'll introduce later. The meaning of her name is: "alluring, temptress, light".
Furthermore, her signature is in Russian, so she picked it, probably, out of Yelena, that means "torch".
Was any of this actually planned? I just like doing that sort of researches and stuff.

That was a lot of meaning out of something I didn't plan at all

I mostly picked the name because it have a nice ring to it, and the signature is from sometime long time ago

But a coincidence it, because my signature means-

"Always, faithful"
