This is another of the "no pic" pages, but I've had this idea in my head for a long time now and I wanted to float it while we're talking about making changes to that list. If this doesn't get enough [tup] votes, then the page will remain in "no pic" territory as the topic is one we shouldn't try to depict properly.

If you're confused, it's a blue-footed booby.

Really clever Visual Pun. To be honest, that may be the only way to have an image for the trope that's SFW.

Crossposting from Underboob, if it's a pun that requires a degree in ornithology to get... is it worth it? I like funny page image but it's a pun that is A) really obscure, and B) not even that good since the page is sideboob not sidebooby.

Heck, you'd be better off with a picture of some famous person called Bob seen from the profile. At least that's easier to get and is about as groan-worthy a pun.

Exaggerations are stupid. I don't have a degree in ornithology, and I understood it. It's more about slightly-less-than-common knowledge.

The trope could be named Sidebooby and there'd be no difference. "Boob" and "booby" are in many cases synonymous. That pun works.

The trope cannot be named Sidebob and still make sense. That pun doesn't work.

I'd point out the very fact that the OP had to make a caption explaining the pun in spoiler text shows how even HE knows the pun is obscure.

So yes. It's obscure and not particularly good so I don't see it's value.

In both these tropes cases, the boob/booby distinction is really nitpicky, IMO.

I'm not opposed to having some sort of pun image on these sorts of pages, but I do think that having the same pun on both Underboobs and Sideboob would be a case of running the joke into the ground.

I agree, and I think this one is simpler and funnier. I also agree that the name of the bird is almost-common knowledge; the claim that only experts will understand is not true. The caption should say what it is, though, because that's not totally-common knowledge.

Whether to have any image at all (let alone whether to have a Visual Pun) is a different question.

I definitely don't want it to be a pattern, I can see "all sexy topics should have a pun image" becoming a (bad) style fad.

I agree that the concept can be stretched thin, and had only intended to use the bird pics on those two pages. I suggested that specific pic for Underboobs to make the extra joke in the caption, rather than doing something like circling the ground or air under some of the birds...the one bird's pose plays into it quite nicely.

Yeah, just once I think, and the caption can say it's a blue-footed booby.

Spoiler markup above the example line? Surely you jest :)

The name can be mentioned without overtly explaining the joke.

I don't think that's ever been a consideration when picking images. Hell, we've gone as far as taking non-English images and making them English.

Um, booby is the common name of a kind of bird. So is albatross, chickadee, chicken, crow, dove, duck, eagle, falcon, finch, flamingo, gull, hawk, heron, hummingbird, kingfisher, owl, parrot, peacock, pelican, penguin, sparrow, swallow, turkey, woodpecker, and many others. Where do you draw the line between which English bird names it is reasonable to have some expectation of readers knowing, and which aren't?

I think a much better fad would be for every page in the Fanservice category to have a picture of She-Hulk where possible, since She-Hulk is the subject of the Fanservice page's image.

For what it's worth, I think we should either stick with no image, or use an actual example and "lock it in" somehow, perhaps with a stern warning right at the top that changing the picture without an IP thread is a banning offence.

Jeez, a "banning offense"?! I'd rather have no image, than an image and a threat; but I don't think that's necessary, especially if the page is locked.
