For Honor is a new IP developed by Ubisoft Montreal and announced at E3 2015 on June 15, 2015. A competitive third-person melee fighting game mixing speed, strategy, and team play with visceral close range combat in multiplayer action. It's also using a combat system called the "Art of Battle" that is similar to Mount and Blade a bit.

In a nutshell: A slower paced Dynasty Warriors with more strategy into it, but you can still be a baddass.

Also: Fuck historical accuracy, Rule of Cool for the win! However, many of the finishing moves are based off real techniques of attacking.

I hope this games turns out well.

I saw glimpses of it during Youtube's livecast. It feels like this is what that Deadliest Warrior game should have been.

I wonder what games mode we'll have. Capture the flag seems... a little silly in this context.

This idea's a gold mine, why did they wait so long? You can do this for almost every era, this is Assassin's Creed meets Dynasty Warriors, a potentially educational, multiplayer romp that could essentially reuse the same formula over and over and just keep adding new time periods and fixes.

If everything goes well, the netcode is good and the game becomes weel received... Dynasty Warriors will be getting blown out.

While I think Dynasty Warriors has it beat in the "rip through Mooks like they're nothing" department, For Honor definitely seems better in the "one-on-one combat against enemy officers" bit. Plus I like the art style for For Honor more.

So, necroing this to say that the game got a good bit of time at the Ubisoft E3 conference, and we were shown the campaign trailer and a level with Warborn vs Chosen. Looks really good.

I should really be more skeptical of Ubisoft games (especially ones with obviously scripted gameplay with scripted developer dialogue) but I'm intrigued. Since Chivalry, I've been looking for a real-ish medieval melee combat game with a good 1v1 mechanics, and this could fill that boat if it turns out well enough.

Indeed. The single-player trailer actually looks really compelling too, with a warlord that just wants everyone to keep fighting because peace is boring or something?

Anyway, the trope page needs work now.

I love the Legion's armor design in these games. They'll probably be what I play most XD

You know, it really says something about how heavily Dark Souls 3 has affected my tastes when I went from having no interest in this genre whatsoever (let alone this game's initial announcement), into noticeable excitement at the latest E3 trailer.

Consider me converted. waii

Now, if only somebody could get to work on making a Star Wars game with some REALLY good pvp saber combat... Now THAT would be sweet!

It looks really pretty and I would love to play as a european style knight and kill all the Samurai just to stick it weebs but I can't help but notice that the combat system is just rock, paper, scissors.

With seemingly no option to overcome disadvantages with sufficient skill or smarts, it's just plain rock, paper, scissors. I noticed this in last year's multiplayer trailer too.

That's got me very concerned.

I was assuming that the different weapons would have different stats, stances, and heavy attacks, similar to Dark Souls. That alone, plus the 3 different attack swings will give plenty of variation.

I think I heard of this game back in E3 last year, and saw it again this year. I'm not ALL that hyped for it, but the coop aspect one dev mentioned in the E3 campaign video aroused my curiosity.

Here's hoping they make a good PC version of the game.

I just hope it's good in general. I'm actually really glad that we can customize the characters we use, too.

I like the fact that outside of the braids of action you can't tell a female fighter from a Male one.

also... Greek/Roman Expansion pack

Nah, those civilizations were too focused on group fighting, not individual combat like this.

Yeah I almost didn't notice in the story trailer that the first knight we see is actually a female.

Speaking of that trailer, I found it amusing how the Viking is the one to start with a shield when the knight is two handing a sword. You'd expect the knight to be the shield user, and then they swap in the fast forward.

Also, if we're talking expansion pack, I was thinking it would be interesting to see a Mayan faction. It could bring some interesting new weapon classes, although I am not sure if they valued "honor" enough to compare to the current three faction.

Developer walkthrough of the E3 For Honor mission.

And our first look at the Legion in what is presumably the first mission of the game.

So it seems like our protagonist may start off serving Apollyon but then be a Defector from Decadence?

I do like how they pointed out in the second vid that it's not so much that the Mooks are super weak, it's just that the playable characters are just that good.
