Egods, those designs. They look like a parody of the Stooges.

Not looking forward to this at all. Trying to bring back any sort of classic comedy character into the modern age is risky in itself(just look at the multiple Tom And Jerry spinoffs since the 70's). The stooges might be harder.

They already tried a Three Stooges cartoon back in the 60s.

I don't think it's going to work. Admittedly, if you had the right people, it could. But I don't think they have the right people.

[up]That mechanical stooge cartoon, right? I remember seeing that one on Boomerang and never knew about the original Stooges themselves until a years later.

That's actually far different... Though arguably more embarrassing. The one I'm talking about was in the 60s and featured the Stooges as themselves, not as robots or anything of the kind. You could probably find it on some public domain cartoon compilation.

(My mother actually remembered the Robonic Stooges, and she hated it!)

I really don't know what everyone's complaining about.

I think the cartoonier take on them will make for stuff they couldn't pull off in live-action.

Not to mention, the creator sounds like he really wants to do the Stooges justice. Can't fault him for that now, can you?

And let's be honest, how many cartoon creators would be willing to take a freakin' blood oath to do a cartoon?

(Although I will admit, the designs made me think "Did they get CH Greenblat to work with them?")

I'm kind of skeptical that the guy from Superjail could do it...

But then again, considering that show... It could work.

I'll save my judgement when I see footage of the show.

The Robonic Stooges. Hannah Barbera pitched a lot of weird ideas at the height of their production volume in the 70s, but that had to be among the strangest. It was okay, from what little i saw of it on Boomerang.

I mean, Titmouse is working it, created by one of the Co-creators of Superjail! This is a studio which has consistently done good work from both a writing and animation perspective.

oh sweet christmas their faces I was not ready

Horrific designs aside, I think the idea has potential. I figure they'll try doing what the current Mickey Mouse cartoons are doing i.e. mixing old and new school styles.

The original 60's toon did in fact have live action bumpers with the Stooges (at this point, Moe, Larry, and Curly Joe De Rita). And yes, a lot of the episodes frequently turn up on the public domain collections.

Robonic Stooges at least wasn't quite as weird as The Super Globetrotters.

I don't like the look of it. Hopefully(there's that word again) it carries the same style of slapstick comedy the live-action shorts had.

Oy. I really don't like those redesigns, especially Larry's. But the creator seems like he knows what he's doing. Time will tell if this winds up being a good idea or not.

Is it going to be a family cartoon or an adult cartoon? Can anyone tell?

The creator's enthusiasm sounds encouraging, he sounds like he wants to do them justice.

The designs are on the opposite side of the encouragement spectrum, though. The featured image on the Flanderization page? It looks like the designs were based off of that, more than anything else. :/
