In the time of our forefathers, the Gods descended to this, our world... the World of Mortals the Gods call the Lower World. The reasons for it are unknown to most of the populace... but those who have grown close to those very Gods have been able to hear it. Many explanations were given, many motives discussed... but while Heaven, an eternal, peaceful place may seem like an incredible paradise, to the eternal entities that are the Gods, such a place was stagnant, static and devoid of growth. Some may say boring. While the Gods once were content only meddling from time to time on the Lower World while looking at it from above, at some moment they desired for more... to be immersed in the rich, vivid and culturally prosperous world of mortals. By some means they found the way to descend upon Earth... losing the ability to use their full Godly might, but still bringing to our ancestors a precious gift of Grace. By becoming a member of a God's family you may be given their blessing, the chance of growth and divine might to become as the heroes of legends... and with such a power, drive away the weakest of monsters. By this covenant of mortals and Gods, a new age, a new world was given birth to.

The best example of this new world can be found on this, the city of Orario... A place of abundance, of crowds and life, of overflowing magic and prosperity. Set upon it's center lies the Dungeon... a labyrinth going ever deeper into the earth from which monsters of all kinds, weak and small constantly are born. Adventurers, blessed by the Gods go into the Dungeon, braving its dangers to slay these monsters and bring to the surface the magic gems and rare ingredients that fuel the growth and resources of bright Orario. For this they are rewarded with Valis, the local currency depending on their haul... and with this money they themselves sustain themselves and the God which gave them their grace, their Familia. Those bound to the same God form their own Familias, family like units not dissimilar to factions or clans. Each Familia is different... some dedicate themselves to some trade with the materials and money obtained from the Dungeon, some dedicate themselves entirely to growing stronger or hunting monsters. Some are lighthearted, while some are ambitious. Some are big organizations wielding great power, whose God's want to accumulate more power... some are small and just want to pass the time and build tons of memories together.

One of the large and prosperous Familias is Apollo's Familia... whose handsome, talented God is envied by many and whose big numbers have been able to amass a fortune which is spent in arts and culture as well as greater gear for their top line Adventurers. Many cherish the idea of joining such a great Familia... and thus lately it has been incredibly hard to be accepted within. However... lately there is a rumor of how Apollo himself when rejecting new entrants has carelessly mentioned for them to try and join his little sister's Familia instead.

Apollo's sister... there are rumors around of such a person existing as well that she only recently decided to come down from the Heavens. Around Orario some have sighted an unknown Goddess walking alone in a forest green cloak. Could this be your chance? Whenever it is by a chance encounter, you chasing after her to join a Familia or being rescued from trouble by this petite Goddess... would you take the chance to join a brand new Familia... and see how far you all can go together?

Will you join this new Artemis Familia?

Welcome everyone to a new RP based on the Light Novel and anime series Dan Machi. As you can see from the description or know if you've seen the anime, this is a fantasy world revolving around adventurers, dungeons, magic items, fighting monsters and the like. You all will be playing as new Adventurers (or normal villagers? Supporters? Could happen if you're interested) joining the ranks of the latest Goddess to come down from the heavens, Artemis. From humble beginnings and low powers, if you grind the Dungeon and amass money and fortune we may still rise into one of the most important Familia's of Orario! Fame, fortune, good food, amazing gear and power is all yours to grasp if you brave the dangers of monsters and the Dungeon. This RP, however, has a lot to do with your Familia... so interacting and getting along both with the other adventurers and your Goddess is also pretty important.

Once you contract with a Goddess and get Grace from her, it will reflect as a tattoo on your back... from there on, experience in battle and training will be rewarded by becoming much stronger. By updating your status, your Goddess checks your status and with the new experiences and training you have undergone lets her blessing empower you suitably. Smash foes with your mighty hammer and your Strength will go up, run and jump all around, slashing like mad and your agility will increase and so on.

There is a system for Adventurer stats in the series and light novels... whose power rankings are measured in letter ranks from I to S and in numbers from 0 to 999 on each stat. Additionally from ranks there is also level... going from 1 to 6 being the highest seen in the series so far. Level is highly indicative of strength at the moment... and while it hasn't been explained greatly, it seems like the difference between a level 1 and level 2 and so on is significant even with similar stats. Thus, I'll be treating it as a multiplicative stat. We'll begin at the bottom of the barrel and as you adventure will see your rankings grow... from being level 1 with nothing but I ranks to great adventurers hopefully!

So far I'm planning on generating your starting stats somewhere between the 0 and a top of 100 points. There will be some luck involved in generating these stats, but factors like which race you pick to play, your character's personality, outlook and what role you wish for them will influence things, so don't worry. If you decide to be an unstoppable tank with armor and shield I'll make sure your endurance is high among your stats. On the other hand, if you want me to make your stats entirely at random and then you want to make a character according to it I can do that as well.

  • Factors for me to generate stats are.
    • Personality: How you approach life and your general outlook does play a little role in this.
    • Race/Species: An elf will get good bonuses on agility and dexterity while a dwarf may have bonuses to endurance. Humans get a light increase to everything. Races seen so far are elves, gnomes, humans, half-elves, prums (hobbits), beast people and the like. No really monstrous species, as those tend to be mindless monsters in the Dungeon.
    • Desired Build: How do you envision yourself? Mighty knight? Quick swordmaster? Archer? Mage?
    • Bonuses - A little bonus system. You can pick one stat for it to receive the bonus increase. Or you may take a penalty in one stat and get a bonus on two different abilities or 1.5 bonus on a single one.

Well, that would be the factors, together with a bit of luck. However, given the nature of the game and how exploring the dungeon and making use of your abilities will lead them to rise, please don't be afraid to mix and match and go for what you like most. An elven barbarian won't start as strong as a dwarf, but by fighting as a barbarian the gap will be reduced fairly closely and you'll still rise to be a strong barbarian. This is just having a bit of fun generating what is merely starting stats.

So, what do you all think? Feel up to this game? Like the idea for stat generation? If so, I'll try to give you all a sheet soon enough. Please post comments, suggestions, questions and more below.

Interest as well. Are the stats the standard D&D ones?

Definite interest. In fact, I've been waiting for something like this. Just what are the stats and bonuses that each race gets?

Do I have to be familiar with the anime to do this? Because it seemed a bit harem-boring to me.

Little change, initial stats will go from 0 to 150 after I noticed a mistake of mine in reading Bell Kranel's stats.

Now, the series has the stats as Strength, Dexterity, Endurance, Agility and Magic. I'm thinking of perhaps splitting Magic into Magical Energy and Magical Might to differentiate a bit more between Magical builds.... though now that I think about it, may instead not make that stat magic exclusive and instead make Magic into Intelligence and Spirit. That way they are still related to magical power while also capable of providing benefits to other builds.

Yups, that will be it.

  • Stats:
    • Strength: Representing bodily might and physical prowess, their body capable of performing greater feats of strength. Valuable to deal damage with weapons or the very body. Capacity to affect the world with your physique.
    • Endurance: Representing physical resistance and health. Capacity to resist harm coming from the world, increasing both defenses and overall health and healing capacity. The power of the body to endure.
    • Dexterity: Representing mental quickness, reflexes and finesse. Quickness of reaction is increased, allowing for more precise movements and aiming in battle, giving more chance to strike critical areas and react to danger.
    • Agility: Representing physical speed and mobility capacities. How effectively you can exert force on yourself to move your position, increasing speed of displacement and giving more options for it, such as jumping, tumbling and how fast you can move your body in general including attacks.
    • Intelligence: Representing knowledge of the world, logical capacity and intellect. The capacity to understand the outer world, how it works and understand the rules of reality. Increases the power of magic, helps in strategy and tactics as well as other endeavors requiring understanding.
    • Spirit: Representing knowledge and strength of the inner world, souls and emotions. Grants greater understanding of the self and others, empathy, will power and more. Grants greater reserves of magical energy and helps reading the intentions and behaviors of other beings.

As for the stats of the races won't tell you exactly what the increase is but can say in general that they all give the same amount of points in total. As to what they go to, you can get an inkling by thinking of the characteristics of each race.

Well then, here is the character sheet!

  • Name:
  • Age:
  • Gender:
  • Species:
  • Appearance:
  • Personality:
  • Backstory:
  • Familia: Artemis Familia.
  • How did you meet Artemis: State the nature of your encounter with Artemis, will be played on a one-on-one scene via either PM or Skype.
  • Stats: You'll be leaving most of this in blank as you will only know after I roll for your character. Remember you do get a bonus to one of these or a bonus to two and a penalty on one. Do note on each ability which is the one the one that gets the bonus.
    • Level: You start at level 1.
    • Class: What is your desired build? What kind of warrior do you intend to be? Can be as specific or vague as you like.
      • Strength:
      • Endurance:
      • Dexterity:
      • Agility:
      • Intelligence:
      • Spirit:
    • Skills: Leave blank for now.
    • Magic: Leave blank for now.
  • Equipment: Nearly blank for now, we'll go shopping once the RP begins though you can state the kind of items you envision yourself using, such as light armor, spears or others.
  • Other: Important notes about your character, such as other possessions, homes, important contacts or really anything else.

Ok, I got two methods of rolling and I think I'll leave it up to players to pick which they like. One of them produces more extreme results, for good or ill and the other more average ones. Which would you each want?

Given the kind of guy I've just made, I would definitely prefer extremes.

  • Name: Markus Rocheste
  • Age: 22
  • Gender: M
  • Species: Elf
  • Appearance: Mark wears clothes that he deems on the cutting edge of fashion—he makes the designs himself, then sends them off on commission. He mostly prefers big, fancy hats, longcoats, and breeches that make him look like a true swashbuckling dandy. His features push that idea of "elf" to an almost caricature level, with sharply pointed ears, a slender nose and lips, and cheekbones you can cut glass on.
  • Personality: Mark sees himself as a self-styled rake and a troublemaker, there to make life interesting for everyone else. He creates as many farces in real life as he does in fiction, and thinks himself better for it. He wants life to turn out a certain way, after all, so what better way to do it than to get his hands dirty and mess things up? He enjoys gambling on high risks and high reward, and loves to put up as many facades and fronts as he deems necessary to complete whatever goal he has for the day.
  • Backstory: Mark is descended from a wealthy family of artisans—not a Familia, but an independent family that made good money off of both their own production and through intelligent acquisition and investment. Mark saw his family's power, and in his younger years he believed they were untouchable—and that he was too. As he matured, puberty took its toll and drove him to ever greater risks. Wine, women, song, horrible abominations sustained on magic alone, nothing was too great a risk for Mark. For awhile, his family tolerated these escapades because of Mark's surprising ability to tell a good story, using their paper mills to get his stories published as serialized novellas or as plays. Recently, however, the Rocheste family turned on Mark; they jettisoned a risk as soon as it became too great, even if it was a family member. Mark was out on his ass with a thousand valis, a sword, and a terrible apartment. If he was to get any renown with them again, he'd have to work completely independently of his family's power and support.
  • Familia: Artemis Familia.
  • How did you meet Artemis: Artemis saved Mark after his street-corner book stall was getting shaken down by thugs.
  • Stats:
    • Level: 1
    • Desired build: Swashbuckler!
      • Strength: Penalty - 28
      • Endurance: 3
      • Dexterity: Bonus - 150
      • Agility: 115
      • Intelligence: Bonus - 132
      • Spirit: 69
    • Skills:
    • Magic:
  • Equipment: Light chestpiece, secondhand cavalry sabre.
  • Other: Owns a 25 square foot apartment, big enough for a bed and a stove and a cabinet and not much else.

So is there a use for mana capacity without good magic spells?

Taco Since: Jan, 2001

Running out of mana seems absolutely disastrous in the anime, at least. Knock you out if you run out of juice.

But doesn't that happen from casting too much?

Taco Since: Jan, 2001
#24: May 11th 2015 at 6:45:28 PM

Actually, that is a good point. We don't know whether that's a result of running out of mana or just through casting too many spells. Mana could be used like fuel for specific spells, or could be more like the spell slots in Dungeons And Dragons where you can "overcharge" a weak spell for a high-level effect if you've got the juice.
