I do hope you fix the issue. But for what it's worth, the Wood Elf and Beastmen mini-campaigns are pretty much the only content Warhammer 1 has that you can't play in Warhammer 2. For anything other than those campaigns, you'll be better off just playing Mortal Empires in Warhammer 2.

[up]Well, I did buy those. I have one more thing to try; Microsoft Visual C++ is apparently commonly corrupted, and I have conflicting reports online of which versions may or may not work. Something to worry about for Sunday, since I have a long work day tomorrow and plenty of other things to do first.

[up][up]Mortal Empires may be similar to the TW 1 campaign, but there are some big differences that make playing the first game worthwhile nonetheless. The smaller scope of the campaign, the inability to occupy cities that do not fit your faction, some mechanic changes, are all things that make TW 1 a different campaign than ME.

Yeah, I really don't like how factions in TW 2 can just colonize anywhere they wish.

It's super fucking annoying playing Chaos in Mortal Empires when Nordland and Ostland and Kislev will just colonize every ruin you have, which leads to you playing whack-a-mole around Norsca until you get bored like I did.

There's a mod for Warhammer 2 that lets you create small settlements as Chaos - if anyone's interested, I can look if it's updated and give you the link.

In other news: Nagashizzar is on the ME map now. Can't wait for Servants of Nagash to update and do another Arkhan campaign. The bonuses Arkhan gets from the landmark are kinda neat.

That's powerful. I kinda forgot, but what VC units Arkhan gets? Because, it might be a little bit OP. Imagine, being able to spam Terrorgheists. Now I wonder what buffs Nagashizzar gives to Vampire Counts or Vampire Coast.

Also worth remembering that not only is Nagashizzar at the other end of the Southland from Arkhan, the landmark is also a tier 5 building that takes 10 turns to build.

So if anything, it's more of a "win more" bonus, so to speak.

To those interested, I tested out reworked Clan Pestilens. Now I know what benefits you get from spreading the plague on your armies and settlements.
In case of armies, you get replenishment rate +10%, Unbreakable and Frenzy. For settlements, bonus growth, +50% income and decreased construction time. With those buffs, you can almost negate unhabitable climate penalties. I just need to figure out how to effectively spread the plague.

EDIT: Also, I have a question. I recruited a second lord (Master Assassin). What units should I recruit? Skrolk has 4 Plagueclaw Catapults, Stormvermin with swords and halberds, Plague Monks and 3 Clanrats (soon to be replaced).

I haven't played the Skaven since before the DLC dropped. A master assassin might be a good lord to play with the new Eshin units though.

[up]So, try to make thematically Eshin army? Hmm, an opportunity for a roleplay a bit. Either Skrolk or Nurglitch hired an army from Clan Eshin to wreck havoc in Lustria.

By the way, what would be a good army for Dwarfs? And, are Irondrakes (the flamethrowers I think?) any good?

Put Irondrakes behind the gaps on your melee line, the way you'd position your Thunderers. They're absolute beasts against infantry blobs.

Okay. Generally, what Dwarf lord to pick - Grombrindal, Belegar or Thogrim? And, how should I build their armies? From what I know, it is a very good idea to get Organ Guns.

EDIT: Hey, I have an unusual question. I played as Tyrion (modded with more Legendary Lords) and Alarielle's faction got destroyed? Is the permamently gone, or is there a way to bring her back? I wanted to confederate with her.

Forgive me, but I want to ask for some advice regarding Alith Anar and Dwarfs in general.

For the Shadow King, are Shadow Warriors viable? Or, should I focus on Sea Guard, Sisters, Phoenix Guard and Swordmasters as my main infantry? And, would it be a good idea to confederate as soon as possible with the fellow Asur, including Alarielle, Tyrion and Teclis?

For the Dawi. I wanted to eventually play as Belegar, but I wanted to try out Karaz-a-Karak first. Pick Thogrim or Grombrindal and how should I typically build my armies? I usually have two lords assisting one another in conquests. Sometimes three.

Alright, I'll try to give you some advice on how to build Thorgrim, as I believe he's the better of the two (or at least the easier and least gimicky), but I do not consider myself to be an expert or anything.

Thorgrim is best supported by the most elite of dwarf units, so when you train high end armies, you want a powerful core of melee infantry. Your front line should be 6-8 longbeards (well armoured and with shields, they can stand up to most enemy charges. If the enemy army is light on ranged units, consider using great weapons to gain an advantage on their infantry), supported by 1-3 hammerers (the better armoured the enemy, the more hammerers you need, so check out ahead of time what you'll be facing). If you have a lot of money, you can replace the longbeards for Ironbreakers to get an overwhelming frontline (but it may be worth keeping the longbeards for the upkeep you save so you can have more money for other armies). You can have a thane and/or a runesmith to assist the frontline for extra attack and defense. Supporting them will be 4 thunderers or quarrelers, depending again on enemy armor. Have two cannons (for armoured and large units) or two organ guns (for light infantry) as siege units.

The remaining spots are utility, and should be given to what you think you'll need for your next task. If you're facing large, dangerous monsters, you'll need Slayers or Irondrakes with torpedoes. If you're facing a lot of infantry, Gyrobombers, Irondrakes with flamethrowers or even Flame cannons can scatter them like they're nothing.

Regiments of Reknown of note are the Grumbling Guard (longbeards), the Peak Gate Guard (hammerers), the Norgrimling Ironbreakers and the Skyhammer (Gyrobomber).

Remember that your ranged units are competent in melee, so when they're out of ammo, get them on the front lines.

So, regarding Malus, I've been seeing nothing but negative feedback lately regarding him and his mechanics. As well as how much more dedication the Skaven are allegedly getting compared to other races. At least people are no longer complaining about Repanse's banner.

Yeah, the Dwarves are probably the simplest to do because all of their units are just upgrades of each other. Dwarf Warriors go into Longbeards, Quarrelers go into Thunderers, things like that.

Dwarf Warriors are also way beyond anything your rivals can field at first, so the beginning of the campaign is smooth sailing, after which you can simply snowball.

A couple things to take note of:

  • Dwarf artillery is one of the best in the game, but their lack of cav (other than the relatively weak Gyrocopters) and dense infantry blocks mean that they're horribly vulnerable when outgunned by enemy artillery... so, uh, don't let that happen.
  • Dwarfs do anti-large a bit differently from the other factions. You can't sit still with some halberdiers and wait for the enemy to skewer themselves on your line; I mean, your infantry is tough enough to take a charge, but don't expect to do a lot of killing that way. You'd either use your anti-large slot for a specialised ranged unit (Bolt Throwers or Trollhammer Torpedoes) or Slayers. The latter is... a bit of an acquired taste, seeing how vulnerable they are to everything else. If you do use them, put them in reserve behind your line and set them loose when a Hydra or something starts barrelling through.

Thanks for the Dwarf-related tips about armies. But, as Grombrindal (because his Grungi's buff to construction and research is good) or Belegar, whom should I wipe out first? I tried as Thogrim and Grombrindal, but I'm attacked from north by Bloody Spears, from south by Black Crag and the rest, and sometimes from Rictus-Nest. Often all at once and I get bloody overrun.

And, returning to Alith Anar. How should I build his army and whom should I wipe out first?

[up][up]Start with the Bloody Spears in your starting province, make a second army with a defensive purpose (nothing fancy, just big enough to hold out against their own troops) and send your best army to fight Black Crag. Start with Iron Rock to use it as a staging point, and protect the other Dwarf Karak (I think they're purple) to keep access to their valuable dock, which will give you trade with the Empire. Confederate with them when you can. Make sure to keep your starting Hammerer unit to fight against Grimgor's Black Orcs, they're the only ones who can stand up to them.

I've been doing just that. Got Karak Drazh (that's how Dwarfs called Black Crag before they lost it during Goblin Wars) and other towns to complete the region. Then, all the Orcs are ganging up on me. Scabby Eye (the guys who are pissing off purple Dwarfs), Bloody Hands, Grimgor coming back with vengeance and dragging Azhag along with him. Heck, if Rotgut is still alive, he joins the fun too. Not to mention the Vampire Counts.

I know that with Belegar, you need to get Karak Eight Peaks as soon as possible. But, how should I do it? wipe out nearby Orcs to complete the province then hope Border Princes grant me Military Access or kill them off for more lands and clean way towards the mountains?

[up][up][up]If you can't take on all the threats with Thorgrim alone, make more armies to fight the lesser threats while your legendary lord and his elite army handles the bigger enemies. You don't need your doomstack to take on the small towns with tiny garrisons, it's a waste of time.

As for Belegar, start with capturing the entire province. Use the underway tunnels to get to Karak Eight-Peaks through other dwarfs' territories once you get military access. The Border Princes will never trade with you because they're jerks.
