I like the suggestion. Another that came to mind was a comparison between the Transformers in the film series as robots, who show noticeable wear and tear, and their alt modes which are squeaky clean.
I like the suggestion a lot.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Neither image is good IMO. The current image is Dirt Forcefield (on her face). The suggestion is Reality Ensues. The trope is "stuff that bloodies or bruises male characters does not do the same to female characters."
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. Not just female characters; Legolas from Lord of the Rings is also listed an example there.
And I support the suggested image.

Effeminate then.
But really the suggestion is not quite the trope.
The current could go well on Dirt Forcefield though.

Maybe it's just me, but Ofelia looks pretty covered in mud in that pick, and thus ineligible for Dirt Forcefield. It's even a plot point during then that she upsets her parents by how filthy her dress is afterward, and she spends much of the next scene in the bath.
To #4: The suggestion is not Reality Ensues because the right image never happens. It's an aversion of the trope.
If it's about the contrast between male and female, then maybe some defeat portraits from Street Fighter?

Fixed that link. Not particularly impressed with either current or OP suggestion, for @4's reasons.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMaybe something from Tomb Raider?
Or this pic from Mr. & Mrs. Smith to show the contrast? (maybe crop the little shoulder bruise to avoid confusion)

I'm currently playing through the 2013 Tomb Raider, and that game is definitely an aversion to this trope. The only time she looks clean when it's not a flashback is when it's raining, and even then it's really only in cut-scenes.
12.3 isn't all that bad though.
Its not exactly that, the face can be dirtied just not excessively so that you cant see the 'beauty'. Like you can still see her makeup throughout the entire thing and she just a few dirt splotches in the face that come and go.
The current is a good example of that, look at her shoulders and chest that is a massive amount of mud streaks while her face just has a few light dirt splotches. It is a bit better example of Dirt Forcefield though, tomb raider is not.

I don't think any suggestion is better than the current for various reasons already mentioned. The current isn't that great, also for reasons already mentioned, but it's workable.
Check out my fanfiction!I like the Little Mermaid one.
That is primarily an example of Reality Ensues though...
Nope, because the movie avoids this reality.
The movie does. The image doesn't.
Anyway it's Not An Example. The trope is "stuff that bloodies or bruises male characters does not do the same to female characters."
12.3 is okay.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.12.3 looks good.
12.3 works the best so far as it contrasts a guy and a girl, both of who are hurt.
It would be better if her shoulder was cleaner, but I suppose it's okay.
Check out my fanfiction!"Fierce hand-to-hand fights are cool, even sexy, but the broken noses and black eyes they cause are not." It's the face that really matters. Body injuries are okay as long as it's not a "permanent injury such as the loss of a limb."
The slightly bruised shoulder helps illustrate that she has also been involved in whatever happened to the guy's face. If she had been 100% clean, then without context, it could look like a guy returning to his wife after beating down an army of villains

Question: Do we have a trope that covers 1.2?
edited 15th Feb '15 5:24:03 AM by eroock
Current:
The current image does not capture the spirit of the trope, which is: looking untarnished even in the messiest of situations.
I came across this set of panels which I found quite illustrative
Others?
