OH NO, NOT UNFRIENDING SOMEONE!!!!112
But seriously, they're going with that title?
Well, the original title was Cybernatural. They changed it because it... gave away the film's twist?
Oh good, capitalizing on all those suicides that have been hitting the news, that's not cheap or despicable at all.
I did like that one part of the trailer where the token fat guy suddenly has his hand in a blender for some reason. OH NOES THE GHOST MADE ME FORGET HOW TO MAKE SMOOTHIES
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Oh, and another thing, how the hell do all of these (I'm guessing) teenagers have Skype accounts where they can group video message people? You need to pay for a subscription for that.
Alao, I like how one of the tabs open in one of the internet windows in the trailer is Jezebel. What a weird choice for some random website to have there.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.I saw the trailer for this movie on TV, where it caught me off-guard. It was pure Narm, but the part that really got me giggling were those ominous close-ups of the villain's generic Skype avatar.
Horror's been ripped from the headlines for God knows how long, so I'm not sure why THIS one is getting singled out for being despicable.
Funnily enough, I just came to make a post in the slasher thread, because word-of-mouth(and that trailer) indicates that it's a supernatural slasher.
A really good supernatural slasher, even. I haven't heard a negative comment or read a bad review about it yet, which is funny, because everything I saw about it made it seem fairly inauspicious. But people liked it a lot.
x5 ...What twist? Its more like the entire damn premise...
Anyway, it looks kind of stupid. Rape and Revenge stories are cliche and found footage, while this has an interesting take, seems like its going to get clumsy fast. The slasher idea doesn't feel appropriate here either. Slashers usually have some 'Who is/are the killer/s?' element while this seems purely supernatural or at least VERY overly complicated.
Most annoying part of the trailer were the Skype and Facebook tones that kept making me pause without thinking to check my Skype and Facebook.
Also, you CAN Skype Group Video Chat without a subscription. I've done it countless times and even did so last night.
I saw one review that basically said it's shot well and has an interesting gimmick that works, but the script is terrible.
Either way, I find it especially tasteless to try to capitalize on suicide. Don't care if it's anything from a horror movie to a song. You don't do that. That's such a cynical marketing move that it makes me sick.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.I don't see how marketing comes into it.
Seconded. Suicide is a thing that happens. It's unpleasant, but it's an aspect of life. Why is using the concept for a horror film taboo?
I mean, if they were claiming to depict and represent the events surrounding a real life suicide? That would be tasteless and cheap. But as it stands, the move is just another fictional horror premise.
NOMUUUUUUUURAAAAAAAA!!! >:(Are you referring to capitalizing on recent events?
well, i wonder how this movie is gonna end up. the site where i heard the news from was already bashing how it's horrible before i even left a comment about how we should give the movie a chance and see it.
i don't say it's good, but the concept of a Vengeful ghost on skype, well, could scare some into never using Skype ever again.
Having Alt-itis since forever and past that.Yup.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Want to know funniest part with this? It's Been Done, courtesy of Daywalt Horror. Similar setup, similar payoff, but a *lot* shorter.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Unfriended looks like a remake of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
So it's a literal ghost in the machine?
Lafayette StrongDoes that mean there's going to be an Internet ghost of a record player?
Princess Aurora is underrated, pass it on.Packer, I was thinking the same thing. This seems right up Phelous's alley.

He'll probably draw comparisons to Smiley same way I did.
Saw the trailer when I went to see "The Wedding Ringer" and holy shit does this thing look stupid. All the trailers I saw were dumb, but this oneā¦.I wonder if the film industry is starting to go to a bad place.
Just in case you're wondering, Wedding Ringer was pretty lousy, too.

Eh. I can guarantee that EVERY generation where film was a thing produced some MASSIVE stinkers. Some years are just worse than others.
I didn't really get why the girl committed suicide though. All I could tell from the film is that she passed out at a party. Did I miss something?
Haven't seen the movie, but my guess from the trailers is that someone spiked her drink, she fell unconscious, and then people raped her. Which, naturally, the trailers would omit such a detail.
I don't know all the details but evidently, she voids her bowels after passing out and gets filmed. Not sure why the "slut" thing shows up in the trailer. I guess it's easier than demonstrating that a girl was bullied to the point of suicide because she crapped her pants. I think at some point during the film, it's revealed that her character was in excellent social standing and a maladjusted bully herself, and I guess that's why she takes it so badly...? I really don't know.

Wow... I... I don't know how to quite word it properly, but considering Teen Suicide is a real world issue, you'd think the writers could come up with something that didn't seem so... petty? If its just she crapped herself in a video, that's embarrassing, sure, but I don't think many would take their life over it and ESPECIALLY if they're in good social circles. There are MILLIONS of videos of people doing crazy stupid shit while drunk. MOST of them are passed around by the very people doing the crazy stupid shit. And a single 'slut' comment isn't likely to break down someone who is in good social circles. It just seems... petty and an overreaction. But, maybe the details are wrong here.
I just saw the trailer today, and from what I got, she got drunk, had some... "ill advised" activities with guys at the party, passed out, and she may or may not have been raped. But the person filming the whole thing DID put magic marker to her body, especially the inner thighs pointing north.
Then one of the group posted it online and the internet, being what it is, resulted in everyone losing their good taste and gained a level or so in assholery. Three days later, the girl shoots herself.
And what I got from the First Death was that the ghost was forcing fat guy to shove his arm into the previously non-existent blender. And later on in the trailer, one of the guys was holding a gun to himself and begging for mercy.
So kind of a blend of Smiley with Poltergeist and Final Destination.

Phelous should be on the look-out for this.
