Attack on Titan comes to mind.

Also, Regular Show if you're an unimportant human who will likely be killed during any of the un-regular incidents.

Living anywhere near The ministries of Oceania in [[1984]] would be an absolutely horrendous nightmare. I used to think other places could be more horrible (the universe of [[Diablo]] where Mephisto, Baal and Diablo himself bring abhorrent fates to everyone existing there who isn't a superhuman or demon) but the thing that seperates those from Westeros, the Elder Scrolls universe, even Middle Earth was that being a hero was possible and evil could be defeated, if even temporarily.

in Oceania, evil won. No idealists, rebellions or revolutions would ever be possible, and no heroes could ever exist unless the inner party allowed it. If there were resistances, they were of course illustrated by the villains themselves to catch you, break you, and make you love them before they kill you. Not even the idea of becoming a martyr against them would work, since they would grind you down, beat you and torture you until you admitted their way was the right way, and you believed you were wrong all along.

You only knew what they allowed you to learn, you could only do what they taught you to do, and you could only be what they allowed you to be.

Of places that I've encountered in fiction:

Panem would suck, particularly one of the poorer Districts.

The Walled City of Attack on Titan... gah. Having to rely on brave, doomed people... live in a martyrdom culture...

The Brave New World would be obnoxious unless you're an Alpha, but even then, you have to have the violent passion surrogate once in a while to keep your body in order. I might hate this one most of all because of the "all programmed castes, no emotion" thing. At least in the Attack on Titan world I can experience rage without being looked at funny and in Panem, I think it would be customary to cry for a classmate or friend killed in the Hunger Games as I watched from the square.

Since I'm watching the Simpsons.... Springfield would suck unless you are in Homer Simpson's favor, since the world and luck revolve around him.

Quahog, Rhode Island would suck a lot. Remember, in that universe, there is no God because one teenage girl is ugly. Except when there is and is either lighting his farts on fire or is escaping arson charges. You have to deal with random Hendenpeters, talking, pretentious dogs (though my book has sold more than his, ahahha!) sadistic babies, shallow, shallow, shallow people everywhere, and if you're female (which I am), you cannot be the least bit "fat" or unattractive, or you're at risk of any number of nasty things happening to you for the humor of some audience you cannot see.

Really, any fictional world. These worlds run on conflict, and thus there must be some assholes somewhere. Either there's people in the world that are just huge dicks, or there's actually some sort of malevolent force that wants to cause some disaster.

They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!

Even though I'm a fan, Attack on Titan's world would be HELL to live in. Barely getting enough food, child soldiers, constantly living in fear of being Titan chow, yeah no thanks.

But even the real world is filled with conflict. If you're in a good country you don't have to live in that conflict. Despite the lack of overlords, monstrosities or chaotic evil factions, a sociopath with a gun having a bad day could possibly ruin your life.

Being a bluepill in The Matrix could be just as horrible. if you were released. It greatly benefits independent people, but not ones with close ties to their family, or children. Waking up and realizing that everything you strived to accomplish, all the stress and suffering you were put through to survive, was a simulation which could be turned off at any time, bringing you to the horrible truth on the other side, actually would be the worst. Your children are off somewhere in the field of pods, however none of them are really biologically yours, and all of the stress you took in to keep them alive and healthy, was pointless.

That, or being a (real) architect in the Matrix. Finding out all the buildings you ever worked on, and gazed at proudly, weren't real.

What about Hyrule? Aside from being in perpetual Medieval Stasis, it has several malevolent entities capable of corrupting it (at least one of which it's been established will always come back, quite possibly within your lifetime). In these cases, your only hope is a lone hero who (if he even shows up) will use his position to rob you with impunity and might not even succeed in your timeline.

[up][up] Thing is, in quite a few worlds there are heroes aplenty and one is only dependant on their own skills to become a hero. If you want to be a champion of good in Middle Earth or the Marvel Universe you could pretty much grab a sword and go about wandering from place to place vanquishing foul things. Whether you would succeed or die horribly is another matter entirely, but you could reasonably just become a hero if that's what you want to do.

Someone has to save the world, after all.

@Gaon Ah okay, makes sense. I'm still avoiding Marvel Universe because I will be a bystander (because I'm a pacifist who is wary of the idea of the acceptance of vigilantism and also has little to no fighting skills) and they tend not to be worried about collateral damage (at least not in the MCU). But than I don't live in New York either so I might be fine, and life would go on as usual, unless it was the (Marvel) comics in which case Canada is awful so.
