Flame Bait banner for tropes that wouldn't be accepted today in YKTTW

Some time ago, I heard that some tropes probably would not be launched if they received an YKTTW today, but are allowed because of Grandfather Clause/number of inbounds. Is this true? If true, which tropes are they? And, more importantly, if the sole reason to their acceptance is Grandfather Clause/number of inbounds, why do said tropes have no Flame Bait banner?

There are reasons for a trope not passing YKTTW that don't qualify it for Flame Bait (regarding the last question).

As for the tropes which would probably not pass YKTTW today, see The Scrappy and Creator's Pet as examples.

Both The Scrappy and Creator's Pet are subtropes to Hatedom, that currently is listed in Flame Bait.

I was always under the impression The Scrappy (and Creator's Pet by extension) was allowed because the complaints put forward about the characters tend to be legitimate grievances (or at least should be when they are written up) that a large number of people do believe, and people can learn from them to avoid these pitfalls in their own works. Obviously they need oversight to prevent mindless bashing, but ignoring parts of a fandom's attitude towards a specific aspect of a work just because it's negative just seems wrong to me, unless that negativity actively ignites arguments.

That's the thing. Its just "Parts of a Fandom". There is a minority of people of people who think child sex is okay. We run them out of the wiki.

Ok, that's an extreme example. But there should be a majority in consensus, not just "Parts of a Fandom".

I'm a little hesitant to agree with that, because I've been on the bad end of a debate here in this very wiki where an entire fandom had pretty much come to a "consensus" about the plot. Any dissenting opinion was stamped out because "The consensus doesn't agree". Any further discussion on the work was based solely on the assumptions that the "consensus" believed, and any discussion based on an alternative view was berated or ignored.

That said, I know what you're saying. Some corners of fandoms are just unreasonable and will come up with any reason to feel however they want to feel. However, there's got to be some sort of happy medium.

You misunderstood me. Its not that dissent shouldnt be allowed. its just that putting "5 people believe Hannah Bobanah is a Jerk Sue so she is one!" just because those 5 people believe that is just silly.

I know its irritating, but The Scrappy is all about General Consensus. If it were just "Characters some people hate" it would lose meaning and would have to be deleted.

Well, considering their post, Jerk Sue is another example of trope unlikely to be accepted today, right?

Yes, it's unlikely that Jerk Sue would be accepted as a trope today. The real problem with those is: How many tropes do we need that amount to "fans really, really, really don't like this character"?

You know, the more I think about it, the more I'm on board with the OP. Why do we allow examples for these purely whiny tropes that would never, ever be allowed to be created today? It seems inconsistent.

Some things can only be figured out by trying. This includes gauging the usefulness of a not-a-trope article.

And the usefulness of these pages is... what, exactly?

Because if it's purely the inbounds they have, that doesn't really justify allowing examples.

One of The Scrappy's saving graces in its last TRS was that its example subpages were attracting significant inbounds by themselves. That's for that trope at least.

First, the Flame Bait banner not means, necessarily, the removal of the examples in the own page(By example, Dethroning Moment Of Suck have many subpages with examples). Second, in some cases of the past, the subpages were turned into redirects to the main page to preserve inbounds.
