A Certain All-Purpose Raildexverse Fanfiction Thread

For fics, ficlets, and drabbles related to A Certain Magical Index, A Certain Scientific Railgun, and A Certain Scientific Accelerator.

I love the setting, and I tolerate the cast, but I hate the Running Gag's with Index biting Touma, and Kanzaki having a weird attraction to Touma and getting flabbergasted by Tsuchimakado. So I often look for fics where the cast possesses some fraction of sanity.

I've seen one fic where Touma mastered the power of the Invisible Thing and prior to meeting Index, giving him better odds once the Magic Side shows up. Another fic where he's a Smartass and verbally one-ups his usual torturers, Mikoto, Stiyl, etc, so that he's less of an Extreme Doormat.

I've seen at least one fic where Index found Accelerator on Day 1, instead of Touma.

I think that controlling the Invisible Thing(s¹) is too much of a power up. Seeing as how it made the instigator of WW3 shit brix, after tanking a country busting attack.

Getting some measure of control over Imagine Breaker works better. Something I can easily see him doing if he doesn't lose his memories or for some reason start wishing to spread his bad luck to others.

¹If the events the Railgun manga are counted, then there's more than one thing being kept in check by IB. Reading the scene at the end of vol. 22 again with that in mind would mean that one of the Things can communicate with Touma, and that another (even stronger) either will follow his will or doesn't want the others acting up.

Unrelatedly, an easy plot hook is Touma's Dad's stash of good luck charms. In canon it brought down a angel, but it can be used to justify a lot stuff if you get creative.

Ah, found it. The fic where he reins in The Invisible Thing is an unabashed OP!Touma fic, but they managed to keep it interesting by upping and diminishing the threat level in the right places.

Toya's good luck charms as future plot devices, hmm. How so?

The many good luck charms that Toya got ended up turning into a ridiculously complex and powerfull magic erray due to being constantly gathered in the same place. They had to destroy the whole house because moving even one of the trinkets could trigger something worse than the Angel Fall.

It also what made Fiamma plan the whole start WW3 plan.

One bunny to come out of this, was to turn the story into a completely different genre by putting giant monsters to be fought with the giant robots we see from time to time.

Let's say that the whole magic erray thing trigger a few years earlier. It end up summoning a creature with some loose relation to the Echidna of greek mythology. Said creature slip away unnoticed in the sea and start spawning several monsters, all coming straight out of myths from all over the world.

The kicker is; Since the "ritual" was set in place to counter or help with Touma's bad luck, the monsters semi-regularly go to Academy City searching for him as the "target" of the spell. Some making themselves more viseble than others.

This is just background detail to be relevant near the endgame, however. The real meat of the story come from Academy City putting together a fighting force to to deal with those threats, because most of the monsters have the ability to curse or put some sort magical effect on peaople that get too close to them, meaning that having Spers help in derect combat is not a good idea.

One of the prospective pilots being one Saten Ruiko.

Yes, I'm still waiting for the mecha spin off with Saten as the protagonist.

I approve of a Saten based series.

I've been trying to write a Slice of Life from the perspective of a few of the MISAKA Sisters, but I'm having trouble. Still, I don't see a lot of fics of them out there. Am I the only one who thinks they're vastly underutilized?

Are there any fics were Touma dies a violent death before the start of the series, leaving Index in the care of Mikoto?

Well, um... I was once considering writing a crossover with Gundam 00. Saten only would've been a Bridge Bunny, though.

The original idea would've had Touma, Mikoto, Kuroko and Stiyl as the Gundam Meisters. Since then, I've realized that Touma can actually be dropped from the story entirely without altering the plot whatsoever, leaving Mikoto as the protagonist.

Of course, the others would get to shine as well. Like Kuroko, who singlehandedly takes down Therestina by telefragging her cockpit. You see, espers in this universe are not concentrated under the aegis of a single, independent faction (Academy City); this makes them persons of interest for certain factions, like the HRL military. Mikoto's mother was once the world's leading authority on esper research and working for the HRL military until her husband, a mobile suit test pilot, suddenly died under unexplainable circumstances (later revealed to be deliberate sabotage by Amata Kihara) and one of her daughters was kidnapped (also by Kihara). While on the run from the HRL military trying to make her disappear, she ended up bailed out by Celestial Being and joined their ranks. With her cooperation, CB developed a device that's essentially a mechanical, non-invasive version of Level Upper that makes a mobile suit capable of copying and amplifying the pilot's esper ability - something the world's militaries would be very eager to possess. And something Amata Kihara is willing to provide.

No, but there should be. Though I'm not sure how Index would just wind up with Mikoto, especially since the latter lives in a private school. And Kuroko would probably interfere as a member of Judgment.

She could reasonably end up with either Saten or Uiharu, though, with Mikoto popping in frequently.

Been watching some parts of Magical Index (especially the invasion arc) and I was wondering how I can write a fic about this, having a different enemy that's responsible aside from the Hound Dog commandos...

Fortunately, you have a city of miniature reality warpers in decent supply. And a number of various religions you can parody into some ludicrous, sinister organization that wants to destroy Academy City. And then there's the various criminal and mercenary sub-groups that pollute the city also. SCHOOL, Anti-Skill, BLOCK, GROUP, STUDY, ITEM, I'm pretty sure the list goes on.

The arc should make it interesting in terms of what forces (good, bad or neutral) can easily intervene in the fighting.

I got a massive load of ideas though. Even going to Assassin's Creed territory.

Already watched the Academy City invasion story on me ipad mini, so I maybe got a story idea.

Got a plotbunny bouncing around in my head that I'd like opinions on. It's Kid Fromthe Future plus Alternate Timelines plus Touma's harem. Dozens of children from Touma's possible pairings start appearing in Academy City and then go looking for their parents. There are the obvious ones like the children of Mikoto/Touma, Index/Touma, and Misaki/Touma, then the slightly less obvious ones like Fukiyose/Touma and Kaori/Touma, the really not obvious like Saten/Touma and Mugino/Touma, and the weird ones like Hyouka/Touma and Accelerator/Touma.

Does that sound interesting to anyone?

Dang. Looks like I better post that idea I have regarding the Academy City invasion arc (c/o of God's Right Seat) before the muse is lost forever.

How about: "secret lab, utilizing the complete lack of morals the Academy City scientific community is (un)known for, decides to cross-breed known level 4 and level 5 strains to create an even more powerful Esper that might reach level 6 (apparently, no one shared the notes about the Radio Noise program). Or, to put it another way, make test-tube babies of high-level espers and see what happens."

Naturally, Kamijou Touma somehow finds out about it by accidentally entering the wrong door while looking for a restroom ("Such misfortune...") and releases them all in a fiery explosion that ends with him dead.

Now, several dozen cross-bred espers who all make the Misaka Sisters look like well-adjusted, gone-native members of society are loose in Academy city. As yet another cover-up ensues and the city's board of directors declares war on Necessarius ("We know that brat was an agent of yours! What, you think we wouldn't notice the nun, saints and magus hanging around him?"), people begin asking Mikoto if she secretly had a child with Accelerator, since there's this cute little kid running around controlling vectors and electricity..."

Suddenly had the idea that the series can be crossed with MCU, particularly with Coulson and his SHIELD group from Agents of SHIELD.
