For a Spanish assignment I need to essentially create a fictional person who would have lived in Latin America during colonial times and give them a back story.

My character is an unmarried mixed-race woman (with Mapuche, African and Spanish blood) who is accused of witchcraft due to her skills with healing and the fact she is very visibly non-white. She flees her home to avoid being interrogated and tortured,

but I'm not exactly sure what exactly her plan would be after that point. Exactly where could she go to get away from them? It doesn't have to have the implication that she lived Happily Ever After for the rest of her days, but it has to (in theory) be a good plan of action.

Now I'm speaking from the other corner of Latin America (I.e the Portuguese colonized one, not the Spanish one), but I'm going out on a limb and say the Spanish-colonized part of Latin America also had small , secret communities of runaway slaves (shot in the dark here). While theoretically she isn't a runaway slave, I'd wager such a place would be more or less a safe haven for someone in her situation (or to simplify things, since she's half-black, she could create a new identity as a runaway slave and start anew).
