Could Nick get away with airing Sailor Moon in a Post Korra World?

Feel free to close if redundant.

Its a thing I've been wanted to discuss for a while. For those not up to speed with Korra, the show ended up pairing Korra/Asami for its Grand Finale.

I wonder if they could get away with Haruka and Michiru now that we've come this far.

First we must ask ourselves - would Nick air anime in the first place?

They've never really gone for the Toonami type of anime. Sure, there was a lot of anime back in the 80s and early 90s, but most of it was on Nick Jr.!

The fact that its a third party show already doomed it. But still pretty interesting stuff to discuss.

Nick didn't even air Korra on television for 2 seasons. The Main channel isn't really for Cartoons that aren't Comedies. Or more approriately, aren't Spongebob Squarepants or Fairly Oddparents. But hey, Nicktoons Network their premium channel network aired DBZ Kai, Voltron and Power Rangers so maybe it could find a home there.

It's hard to say. I've been watching Crystal as it has aired, and while it has some surprisingly intense things (like Moon's attempted Mutual Kill on Possessed-Mamoru, which had disturbing murder-suicide undertones), but then again, Korra also got pretty damn intense.

Haruka and Michiru come pretty damn late in the game, though. One wonders if they could keep the show on the air that long.

Whoops, Honest ninja'd me on the Kai thing.

Yeah. Nicktoons could be an awesome home for Sailor Moon... if they didnt treat the anime not named DBZ Kai like crap. But then Main Nick is even more ruthless to third party shows/anime so its a lose/lose situation.

And I meant the Original 1992 anime Ogodei. But you are still awesome so its okay.

Crystal is a no-no. ESPECIALLY if they decide to include Usagi and Mamoru's sex life...

HE-HEEEEEEEELL no. We ain't come that far, bruh. If parents catch their 9-year-old daughters watching two girls sharing kisses and whispering sweet nothings in each others' ear, they'll be writing angry letters to the studio so fast they'll be in the mail before it's even signed. And that's not getting into the minor swears the Viz dub uses.

To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."

[up]You havent watched a single episode of Sailor Moon. Did you?

They never did anything of that sort.

Also Regular Show says hi. But that's CN and thus Off Topic so meh.

They would, if only Sailor Moon had more farts and looked like it was drawn by Butch Hartman.

[up][up]I'm exaggerating. You know full well what I meant.

Also Regular Show never had outward same-sex relationship representation or minor swearing (things like "pissed" and "crap" don't count. The new Sailor Moon dub has full on "hell"s and "damn"s).

[up]What is it with you people and Butch Hartman? Yes, he's responsible for Fairly Oddparents being what it is now and Tuff Puppy... whatever that is. Let it go, already.

I don't even hear much about Butch Hartman's stuff anymore.

[up][up][up]I didnt and its not obvious. I really hate when people abuse the Sarcasm Mode trope pothole but you should have been more clear.

Aaaanyway, I'd say Korra was able to pass that up because it still was obscure enough in the eyes of the public at large, which is the opposite of being headline-grabbing enough to prompt any sort of actual revolutionary longterm change.

[up][up]...okay. I assumed it was so simple there wouldn't need to be any mind-reading involved, but fine, lemme spell it out then.

Showing implicit same-sex relationships in childrens cartoons is still a no-no as far as parents and networks are concerned, so no, they couldn't get away with it.

That's it. What about that was so hard to decipher?

[up] Implied homosexuality, though, has always been easy to get away with in kids' cartoons.

[up][up] Haruka and Michiru arent explicit.

And thank god you explained, I thought you were saying something else entirely.

It's worthwhile mentioning even the Japanese mainstream isn't that soft on explicit homosexuality, which gave birth to the 'Japan doesn't want lesbians in their Yuri' meme. Basically, they love the teasing and implications, but the second they go outright explicit, they tend to be like EEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHH.

Of course, doujin and the like are a fully different matter.

also kinda depends on the medium.

it's a lot easier to find explicit gay relationships in seinen or josei manga than tv anime.

True, although we are talking about TV anime here.

[up][up]Well that's across the board, written works for children can always get away with alot more then televised materials.
