"Jeff Kingston, a professor of Asian Studies at Temple University in Tokyo says the attack reveals lax cyber-security among Sony's ranks. But he suspects it is a more widespread problem in Japan.
"I think this is a wake-up call for Japan that this is a problem. This is a huge vulnerability. And they're not really managing this risk very well or very aggressively," Kingston said. "It does suggest a certain level of corporate complacency."

"So while it’s true that Sony is hardly the only big-profile company to fall foul of hackers, the amount of times parts of Sony have been hacked and the extent of some of the hacks does seem pretty extraordinary. So it’s easy to imagine people finding this latest hack to be some sort of final straw; the point at which they no longer believe Sony capable of learning enough from its previous security failures to develop a system capable of shutting out the hackers once and for all. And it’s just as easy to imagine that people who reach this conclusion will further conclude that they need to start turning towards buying their electronic devices from other seemingly more secure brands instead."
