FFIV: Rydia.

FFVI: Celes, Terra and Locke.

FFVII: Yuffie and Tifa.

FFVIII: Everyone but Squall and Rinoa.

FFIX: Zidane and Garnet.

FFX: Yuna and Tidus.

FFXII: I liked all of them, but Excalibur-Equiped!Ashe is a must have.

FFXIII: Fang, Vanille and Sazh, even if I really don't like the game. Also Snow, when I need a tank.

I tend to use Scrafty a lot in pokemon. Guy kicks butt and is pretty awesome.

In shining Force 1, always take Zylo and at least one mage. Guntz gets a lot of love too as does Mae.

In Fire Emblem, a knight is usually on my team to soak up melee damage and almpst always end up being ne of my highest levelled troops. Knights/Generals FTW.

When I play Dragon Age; Origins, Alistair is always on my team. I refer to him as "my man".

For Pokemon, Heracross.

Other than that, can't think of anything.

Mass Effect: I'd say that Wrex and Garrus were probably my most-used party members with Ashley maybe being third.

Mass Effect 2: Yvonne Strahovski is probably my biggest celebrity crush, so Miranda is generally a permanent fixture on my squad. Aside from Miranda, I think that Grunt, Garrus, and Tali tend to shift in for the final position depending on what kind of enemy I'll be facing. If it looks like Geth, I'll use Tali. If I see Collectors, I throw in Grunt. And Garrus tends to face off against the others.

Mass Effect 3: I'd say that Garrus gets the most use. ED and Tali tend to fill the final slot more often than not.

Dragon Age Origins: It really depends on which class I am using. If I'm not a rogue, Leliana tends to be the most used party member for the sake of lock picking. Wynne gets a lot of use thanks to her healing magic. I also tend to keep Morrigan and Alistair around a lot, because they're my favourite characters in the series.

Dragon Age II: Anders' healing magic made him pretty essential to my party (which pisses me off, because I hate that whiny terrorist prick). I tend to always use Bethany whenever I have access to her. I also tend to get a lot of use out of Merrill.

Persona 4: I try to use everybody for the dungeon exploration in order to keep their levels up. But, when I'm fighting a boss, I usually try to use Yukiko and Teddy for their precious healing magic.

Chrono Trigger: Marle for the healing.

Pokemon: As somebody who grew up on the anime, I usually try to get Pikachu on my team. I also tend to use Gyarados a lot. And, I almost always get the fire-type starter (except for Pokemon X, where I wanted a Greninja, and even then I ended up getting a Charmander).

Final Fantasy VII: I almost always have Barrett or Tifa in my party. I try to cycle in the others to keep them leveled up, but those two are easily my favourites in the group.

South Park The Stick of Truth: Everyone knows it's Butters! He's the funniest character in the game, has healing magic, and decent offensive skills. I barely even use anybody else.

Skyrim: J'zargo is my absolute favourite companion and I am pleased that the game decided to let him avoid any sort of level cap. I also like Serena and I used to keep around Lydia before I accidentally killed her and Marcurio before I met an even better mage to pal around with.

Fallout New Vegas: Boone. He is just so cool and I always love having a friend who can kill things before I even know that they're there.

  • Final Fantasy I: Fighter, Black Mage, White Mage. Whether the other guy is a Thief or a Monk depends on my mood. (I find Red Mage too much a Master of None compared to Fighter/BM/WM to really use him anymore)
  • Final Fantasy VI: Terra, Sabin/Edgar/Cyan/Locke, Gau/Gogo
  • Final Fantasy VII: I certainly enjoy using Tifa and Yuffie, but I don't necessarily use them all the time, because then I wouldn't ever get to use Vincent. IIRC I also used Cid a lot during my first playthrough.
  • Final Fantasy VIII: Historically, I've always had Rinoa and either Zell or Irvine as Squall's backup when possible (initially Irvine, then I started leaning more toward Zell in later playthroughs). That said, I will probably use Selphie and/or Quistis more in my next file.
  • Final Fantasy IX: Was only ever able to attempt one playthrough of it, but my mainstay units (barring Zidane) would definitely be Vivi, Freya/Steiner, and Dagger.
  • Final Fantasy X: I almost always have Tidus in my party unless it's better for the enemy matchup not to (e.g., Lulu + Auron + Wakka or the like). A lesser example, but I also really like Rikku, and usually keep her in my party when I can get away with it.
  • Final Fantasy XIII: this is really skewed since everyone gets EXP regardless of whether you use 'em or not, but I normally have a team to the effect of Lightning, Fang, Hope/Vanille. If I don't have Fang yet, it's usually Snow in her slot.
  • Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: I always have Marche (can't recall if allowed to drop him or not),

  • Golden Sun The Lost Age: My endgame party almost always consists of Felix, Isaac, Ivan, and Mia. Fire Adepts just don't get to do anything, I suppose. tongue

  • Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones: I usually have Neimi and Amelia (who goes the path toward General) with me in Sacred Stones. Not as constant, but I also usually employ Ross (who takes the Berserker path).
  • Fire Emblem Blazing Sword: I normally use Wallace if I get him. Whereas if I get Geitz, him I normally don't use. Kinda similar situation with Harken and Karel respectively - if I get Harken, I normally use him. If I get Karel, I normally don't. ... also, if I'm using a character with Bows as the primary weapon, it's usually Rebecca instead of Wil (or even Rath). ... Bartre is another unit I use in most files.
  • Fire Emblem Holy War: I always use everyone I have, because there is no Arbitrary Head Count in that game.

  • Persona 3: Yukari. I used to use Aigis a lot, but ultimately found her rather underwhelming.
  • Persona 4: Haven't really played it as often as P3, so it's harder to say, but I generally have Yosuke and Yukiko in my team. I've recently taken a shine to using Teddie, though.

  • Super Robot Wars Judgment: Tekkaman Blade, Burning Gundam + Rising Gundam, Sousuke in the Arbalest, Mazinkaiser, Freedom Gundam and Justice Gundam, Zeorymer... these guys always get deployed if they're available for the mission in question. Honorable mentions include Dancougar, Yuu and Hime, and recently Iiko and Jonathan, Eiji with Layzner, and in the earlygame at least Akito, Ryoko, and Hikaru (and sometimes Izumi). I've also started using Combattler V a bit more of late. ... Voltes and Great Mazinger will sometimes tag along so that Combattler and Mazinkaiser can use their Combination Attacks.
  • Super Robot Wars W: Aside from units that also appeared in J (Mazinkaiser, Tekkaman Blade, Freedom Gundam, and the Arbalest), I always, always deploy GaoGaiGar and Shin Getter Robo. I only got around to doing the endgame once, but Detonator Orgun, Gundam Wing Zero, Tekkaman Dead, and the rest of the Gao Gai Gar units also saw consistent use.
  • Super Robot Wars Alpha: Only played it once so far, and didn't clear it, but I would always use Evangelion Units 01 and 02, I normally deployed Zeta Gundam and ZZ Gundam, Roy Fokker (due to him being more recognizable to me back then, having never seen anything Macross-related at the time), I always deployed Mazinger Z, Getter Robo G, Combattler V... and on maps where Noriko was available, I would also always send her out.
  • Super Robot Wars Original Generation: Haven't cleared it, but I almost always take the ATX route (with Kyosuke as the main character), and my usual deployed units are Kyosuke/Alteisen, Excellen/Weissritter, Tasuku/Giganscudo, Katina/Red Gespenst, and I normally don't use Bullet until he gets the Huckebein Mk II.

  • Tales Of Phantasia: Not like there's really much choice in the matter, but I generally have Cress/Mint/Klaus/Arche as my team.

Ooh, fun!

  • Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: Always a Dragoon or White Monk. Bangaa FTW. Oh, and an Assassin, because they're so overpowered in TA it's absurd not to get one.
  • Final Fantasy Tactics A 2: Ditto, but add a Master Monk or Trickster to the mix. Also somebody's being a Seer, whether with Illusionist, Ninja or Parivir varies.
  • Final Fantasy V: Mystic Knight represent! The famous combo's always up. Dragoons aren't as good here, sadly, but Monks are also a mainstay.
  • Final Fantasy VI: Terra and Locke, fo sho. Also the Figaro brothers, but usually only one at a time.
  • Mass Effect 2: GARRUS. Miranda gets points for utility, if not likeability. Tali's also frequent.
  • Pokemon: Always a dragon or reptile of some sort. Charmander, Totodile, Treecko, Gible, whatever.
  • Skyrim: Can't go wrong with Lydia.
  • Fire Emblem 7: Erk and Matthew. I always love the thieves and snarky mages in this series. Serra is also common, with either of them. Oh, and Heatth.
  • Fire Emblem 8: Joshua! And Colm. And the wyvern rider dude, they're too useful.
  • Bravely Default: Dark Knight, because nothing matches up to the sheer damage potential. For endgame, a Spiritmaster is mandatory, and a Freelancer with Performer as secondary lets you break the Brave system in half.

Let's see... for cases where I get to choose party members...

Final Fantasy V - Blue mage. It's either an active skill or I have Learning so that I can power it up for later.

Final Fantasy VI - Locke. I'm addicted to Video Game Stealing.

Final Fantasy IX - Zidane. No, really, extremely addicted to it.

Final Fantasy XII - Balthier. I really wish he had been the hero, like he claimed.

Final Fantasy XIII - Sazh. He's the only one of the characters that didn't make me want to hurt something.

Final Fantasy Tactics - Oracles and Beowulf. I am addicted to inflicting Standard Status Effects. And I'm damn good at it.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - Moogle Jugglers. Really damn good.

Pokémon - Well, do you mean my preferred travel team, or my preferred fighting team?

  • Travel team
    • Ambipom - HM slave and the strongest Pickup user in the game.
    • Pelipper - Fly/Surf slave; gets me around to all the places Ambipom isn't getting me.
    • Breloom - With Spore and False Swipe, my main catcher.
    • Banette - With Frisk, Thunder Wave, and Thief; my backup catcher when Breloom won't work, plus useful for item acquisition.
    • The other two spots frequently rotate depending on what I'm trying to train or evolve.

  • Fighting team
    • Shuckle - I love to tank, particularly in sand teams. Ain't nobody better at it.
    • Relicanth - Pretty good tanking in sandstorm; also, the original Rock Head-Head Smash abuser. Sandstorm plus Amnesia takes care of its comparatively low special defense; it's a damn good Mighty Glacier with a little work.
    • Rhyperior - You have no idea how giddy I was when they announced an evolution to Rhydon, which was a mainstay until Gen IV on my teams.
    • The other three vary from generation to generation. Though Hippowdon or Tyranitar do tend to get in there (sometimes both). As does Garchomp, but he tends to appear on any team anyone makes where the weather doesn't screw him over (i.e. everything but rain and snow teams).

Bravely Default - Ranger. There's always at least one person in my party running around with this either as a main or as a backup. Generally, this person also has a bow, because hitting nearly everything in the game with a weakness means you constantly get to spam the bow's special attack. In my game, Edea was the one most frequently in the class, but I always had someone pick up the slack when I was grinding other jobs for her.

Etrian Odyssey IV - Fortress. I swap in and out the other classes (even sometimes going without a Medic!), but I always have someone in this class, because by itself it makes everyone else better (mostly by eating all the blows). Also Nightseeker - like I said, I love status ailments.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.

SMT mon wise, I bring Metatron (Robot Angel Jesus, I think.) Amaterasu (Healing and Megidolaon.) Lucifer (When and if I can, depending on the game.) and Kohryu (Or what ever each game wants to call him).

Pokemon wise, the Flaffy line (My fave line, until I die.) the Ralts line (Gardevoir is awesome.) and the Poliwag line (One of the nostalgic things that withstood the test of time, unlike Charizard. And no, I still prefer the other starters.)

You gotta start somewhere.

Skyrim - Lydia. My waifu.

Luke and Tear. Since you start with Luke, he's the one I've gotten the most used to playing as. Tear's capable of healing the entire group, so I like to have her along as well. As for the other two slots, I tend to rotate, although Jade is probably my next most frequent, because I love his spells and general personality. The other three I swap in and out as I see fit.

  • Xenoblade Chronicles: Sharla. Her Healing Shiv is too useful, although some fights are simply more exciting without that as a crutch.
  • Rogue Galaxy: Lilika. She's just way fun to play as. A shame about that Can't Drop the Hero thing.
  • Fire Emblem Elibe: Dorcas! Guy was a stone wall and somehow charming. Also Florina, because she was useful with Lyn as both a backup fighter and Yuri Shipping Fuel.
  • Sonic Chronicles: Rouge the bat. She wasn't very useful in battle, but her tongue could cut steel.
  • Bravely Default: Arcanist magic nuking is very satisfying.
  • Mass Effect: First game was all about Wrex and Tali. They complemented one another very well.
  • Marvel Heroes: Don't know if this counts, but I love playing as Captain Marvel, Loki, Black Panther and the Thing.
  • Final Fantasy Tactics: I always brought a Monk for their versatility. Rarely has something been able to damage, tank, heal AND support.
  • Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor: The demon Hecate I recruited was absolutely boss. Practically invincible, strong magic and a constantly replenishing MP pool. Got her midgame and kept her right up to the final boss and beyond.
