This is part interest-fishing, part pitch.

So, yeah, the name is not very indicative, but I play this game with friends on road trips all the time, and that's what we call it. Here's how it works:

  • The first person names any actor or actress they wish. (e.g. Alice.)
  • The second person names a film that actor or actress was in. (e.g. The Movie.) note
  • From here, the game can branch off: The third person may choose to name either another film the same actor or actress was in, or they may instead name a different actor or actress that was in the film just named. (E.g., they may name Bob since Bob had a cameo in The Movie, or they may name Oddly Named Sequel 2: Electric Boogaloo, since Alice was in that film as well.)
    • If the third person named a film (Boogaloo), the fourth person has the same choice: Name yet another film with the same actor/actress, or name an actor/actress that was in the last film named.
    • If the third person named an actor or actress (Bob), the fourth person must name a film that actor or actress was in.

And so on and so forth. The first couple of turns are hard to explain, but once the game is rolling, the general progression is:

  • If the person before you named an actor or actress, you must name a film that actor or actress was in.
  • If the person before you named a film, you may name either:
    • An actor or actress from the film, or
    • Another film that the last actor or actress named was in.

The only restriction is that you can't name anything that has already been named. If you do, you're out for the round. (When I play with friends, you get three strikes, but I don't think that would be practical on the forums.)

Last few rules: Usually when I play this in person, it's a set turn order and you get three strikes before you're out, but since that would needlessly slow the game down, I'll say there's no order, but one strike eliminates you for the round. Fair enough, since it's harder to get a strike in these rules (in person, if you can't think of an answer on your turn, you get a strike, but since anyone can post at any time, that's unenforceable).

If you're caught posting in a round after you've been eliminated, you're... double-out. And shunned.

Does this sound playable? Anyone game to play? Rules need tweaking for forum use?

A couple of common examples of progression:

  1. Johnny Depp. (Actor)
  2. Edward Scissorhands (Film Depp was in)
  3. Sweeney Todd (Another film Depp was in)
  4. Helena Bonham Carter (Actress that was in Sweeney Todd)
  5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Film Carter was in)
  6. Alan Rickman (Actor that was in Order of the Phoenix)
  7. Love Actually (Film Rickman was in)
  8. Etc.
