Psht, I haven't even worn the Winslow for twenty four hours yet :P

I don't know what you guys are talking about; I've been changing my avatar all over the place, and nobody's given me any trouble. :/ Been going back to Rusty before too long, him basically being the temporary default, but I've been using other stuff.

I already changed my avatar. I'm one of those people who change their avatar like they change socks, so I got sick of the dragon within a few days.

So, will there be an official announcement of the winners? And, will everyone who didn't win at least get a consolation badge like last year?

We're currently having technical difficulties with the badge upload tool but as soon as we've got that sorted we'll give out awards.

I'm curious, are badges ever gonna be a thing again here? I remember someone saying a while back that FE was going to someday implement a new system for them, but the shop's been closed for at least a year now I think. I understand priorities and all, but just curious.

They didn't work as a revenue stream, and without that they're just another drain on resources, so they're probably pretty low priority.

They were going to be a way to get more donations; people would buy "Tropies," with which they'd buy badges. Turns out, though, that not enough people would buy them to make the system pay for itself.

As I understand it, the existence of the forums and site are maintained out-of-pocket and at cost. Badges were an attempt to put a bit of a dent in that cost, but keeping the Paypal thing or whatever for the badges up cost more than the donations returned.

I guess, though, that either the badges themselves existing doesn't add too much, or they don't want to bum people out and render their bought Tropies pointless by removing them. Also, this way they can denote mods and heralds and such and give cosmetic awards.

I'm going to have to offer something less than full disclosure at this point but there are some changes underway and it's quite possible we'll be able to restore the badge shop amid a series of updates and other tweaks coming up in the near future.

Sorry for the necro, but am I correct in assuming that this is on hold due to the server migration thingy?
